I am glad they didn’t cave in and remove this song. It is iconic and such a tradition of Longhorn athletics.
Totally, man. When all this garbage started my parents and sister were laughing their rears off and kept telling me it wasn't to late to transfer to Baylor or SMU in Big D, both of which accepted me. If people hate it, they can transfer. Screw'em.
This is absolutely awesome. I’m a first year UT student. I can’t believe there are idiots who want to get rid of this song. I’m pretty sure when people sing it, racism is the last thing on their mind, what is on their mind is their love for UT, the great state of Texas, and Austin. Hook ‘Em Horns, the Eyes are on you Oklahoma.

Tremendous respect from a diehard Michigan fan. "The Eyes of Texas" is a classic alma mater, and that 2009 Texas-OU game was one the best, hardest hitting games I've ever seen.
As a LSU Tiger fan that grew up listening enjoying golden band from Tigerland, I can appreciate Texas marching band... good stuff.

With the kind of devotion and how much the song "The Eyes of Texas" means to so many alumni, I have no idea why anyone could even remotely suggest getting rid of it.
Some obscure connection to a quote from R.E Lee and the racist environment in which it originated, but all racist origin is in my opinion obscure or incidental. I mean the Old South basically preferred losing the war rather than conceding the possibility that the african-americans be armed and make good soldiers. WE sing the song cause we love the university or the sports teams. It might not be satisfactory proof, but the fact that we love a football team so much that is disproportionally overrepresented by talented african-americans suggests that maintaining our "supposed views" of white supremacy isn't a big priority to those who sing The Eyes of Texas. I love the Longhorns and if that makes anyone uncomfortable, I'm sorry.

Damn, I still remember singing his song back in '83 in my second grade auditorium in Houston TX. I wonder if kids still do things like that nowadays. Growing up in Texas it was kind of weird because it was pushed that you were a little more special than most americans because you were a Texan too. It was goofy and harmless but it did engender a little pride in being raised in Texas.
