    Oh my goodness!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video!! I wish I had seen this years ago when I first got my Curio because I would have actually tried to use it back then (instead of it collecting dust on the shelf). This is the best tutorial I have seen using a Curio!! I am off to dust my machine off now!!

    There are several videos on here about etching. They all are good and have their merit but this one helped me by far more than anyone's and the etching came out much much better!! I love the things I made by using your method. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

    Thanks For the Video. You can line up the top hole if you use a square and mark it on the cardboard to line the hole up with the line to make it straight everytime.

    Could tell me if I can spray paint the Silhouette metal sheets.Loved your video your really explained it so well.Also could you tell me if you did the matte spray before you etched or after.Blessings to you Jocelan

      @MissMaryEmbroidery  5 лет назад

      No, I have not sprayed the silhouette Metal sheets before, you'd be able to spray paint them, but I am not sure how they would look after they are etched. I sprayed the metal before I etched themed & then sealed them after I was done etching. Hope that helps!!

    I feel really dumb asking this- but is there a difference between the silhouette studio free version and paid? Because I don’t have any of those cut settings you used on my basic free program.
    But I’m wondering if the software has updated in four years? I just barely started using curio so I don’t know 🤷🏼‍♀️
    Thanks for a great video!!

    • @MissMaryEmbroidery
      @MissMaryEmbroidery  3 года назад

      Don't worry, not a dumb question, ha! But yes and yes is the answer to your questions.
      Yes, there are differences between the free version and the paid upgrade, the paid upgrade will have more button basically. The layout should look same, just more buttons and options.
      And a big yes, the software updated from version 3 to 4 and got a massive visual update from when this video was made. So the software looks very different than it did in this video. They also re-did the send panel completely over the years, so it would look massively different than in this video!!
      Fingers Crossed this summer, I want to redo some of the curio videos in the current software!

    Hi, thanks for your tutorial. Have you by any chance compared the Chomas etching tool vs the Chomas Precision one? I'm planning in engraving pendants, mostly with text, but not sure which of the Chomas tools to buy. Thanks in advance!

    • @MissMaryEmbroidery
      @MissMaryEmbroidery  3 года назад

      I do have both and I generally go back to the etching tool....some of that is because it was the first one that I owned & I have just used it more. But the precision tool makes really thin lines and so it's hard to see on most surfaces, in my opinion. Hope that helps!

    Thanks! I hadn't tried this until I got more info - the Curio booklet is so unhelpful. The software I think is easy, I don't see why so many complain about it. It's very much like Printmaster or that kind of desktop publishing. Now I'm confident enough to try this. (Is the $20 online Silhouette book worth purchasing for just the Curio? I don't really do paper cutting, so I just have a Curio.There is so little info in the booklet I'm searching everywhere for more)

    • @MissMaryEmbroidery
      @MissMaryEmbroidery  7 лет назад

      Kirsten M Blair I'm glad my video helped! The silhouette software has had some bug issues over the years & that might be some of what you've seen people complain about. To my knowledge there isn't a lot about the Curio out there, but truthfully I haven't really looked. I know nothing about the silhouette book, I don't read them, so I don't buy them.....kinda like the curio booklet I never read!!

    Hi, the video helped a lot but the new software it is making things a littler harder, could you please make one video with the new one?

    • @MissMaryEmbroidery
      @MissMaryEmbroidery  7 лет назад

      Sarah Hipólito it will probably be a while before I update my software. I like to give silhouette a chance to really work out all of the bugs!!

    • @MissMaryEmbroidery
      @MissMaryEmbroidery  7 лет назад

      Sarah Hipólito I have been told that the V 3 of the software is better for the Curio at the moment. V4 has some bugs that need to be worked out for the curio.

    So I have a question would I be able to do the same thing with wood designs?

    • @MissMaryEmbroidery
      @MissMaryEmbroidery  3 года назад +1

      I’ve never tried it but I wouldn’t think it would work well. I think it would just chew up the wood. I linked the video below where I used a wood burning pen, it would be another way to work with wood.

    I use really tiny rectangle blanks that are a silver alloy that I hand stamp with dog design names and then add to a dog cameo necklace. They measure 25 x 25 mm square (1 1/8" square x 1 1/8" square). Would these super small blanks work a silhouette cameo?

    • @MissMaryEmbroidery
      @MissMaryEmbroidery  5 лет назад

      Do you meant the Cameo or the Curio? For the Curio, in theory, yes it should be able to etch on something that small-- I have never done though, so it's a bit of a guess. For the Cameo, it would depend on how tall the blanks are and which version of the machine you have. The big difference between the curio and the cameo, is the height of the things that can go through the machine--it's really short for the cameo!

    • @TeenaStewart
      @TeenaStewart 5 лет назад

      I really don't know yet.Trying to figure out which machine to get. I have several things I want to do with it, etching the blanks is one of them. The charms are a long, then rectangle and etch them horizontally. So, the height would actually be the width, 1/4" high and the length is 1 3/16" long. The other thing I want to do is printing white ornament inserts to go into glass ornament globes. I used a commercial printer this year who was able to do it somehow using foil to get the white, but it just looks like white ink which is perfect. I won't use him again because he was too unreliable but know there is a demand for custom beach ornaments. Now I am trying to figure out how to do these myself. I would attach a photo but don't see that option. Here's a sample, but the customized version (which I don't sell online) has the beach name in black under the white seashell. www.etsy.com/your/shops/SerendipitiniPet/tools/listings/page:2/662275825 I know The Silhouette will cut out the round insert and that you can use white vinyl to put the seashell design on the clear pvc acetate, and then I think you have to run the design back through the machine substituting black ink cartridge for the cutter to get the beach name on there. I have to roll up the insert on the clear pvc and insert into the globe. I don't know if that will work with the vinyl on it.

      The Cameo isn't really meant for etching, I have two videos up on how to etch with the cameo, but it really is a work around & is limiting. For the Cameo 3 it can etch stuff less than 2 mm tall and for the cameo 2 it's 1 mm tall. The curio can etch materials closer to 5mm, it is much better at etching & you will get extra tools in the software for etching. The silhouette cameo is going to be better at cutting vinyl & doing the ornaments, technically the curio can do things the cameo can do but it's much easier on the cameo. I did video on how to make the transparent ornaments with a print and cut on the silhouette cameo, if you want to check it out & I have videos on etching on the cameo. I hope it helps some!

      There was a firmware update for the Curio, so I would make sure that yours is up to date, that might help. Also make sure that your pendant isn't moving. Hopefully that helps some!

    • @MissMaryEmbroidery
      @MissMaryEmbroidery  7 лет назад

      Oh I’m sorry! I miss read! You can etch on the cameo using really flat metal (1mm-ish) but you’d need to use sketch pen settings, the emboss/deboss, window won’t work on the cameo.

      There are quite a few places such as Beaducation.com and a new place I just found called Boppermetalsupply.com. They both have copper and brass blanks. I see that some have used stainless steel which would be harder than copper so I'm thinking it might be okay but I'm afraid to ruin my chomas etch pen.

    • @MissMaryEmbroidery
      @MissMaryEmbroidery  7 лет назад +1

      Those are Stainless Steel Blanks I used in the video & my Chromas tool is still working like a charm! You could also use the Silhouette Etching tool, if you are scared to use the chromas tool, since they are much cheaper!
