- For some reason, ping pong came very natural to me.For some reason, ping-pong came very natural to me, so I started playing it all the time. I played ping-pong even when I didn't have anyone to play ping-pong with.
I love how in forest's eyes he's just living his life as it goes but to everyone hearing his story's he's been through every major events of the 60-70's
Exactly!
Wow it's almost like that's the point of the movie
@@angelorobledo1536 things are worth restating.
@@ImDaRealBoi not obvious things that literally everyone who watched the movie is able to understand
Eventually he invested in a profitable fruit company
"Some said world peace was in our hands. But all i did was play ping pong..."
haha
I wanna get this drunk
Mario Cisneros I’m gettin there rn
@Arxiel Davin Vital ...I was a national celebrity!
Just saying. You never use but in the beginning of a sentence. Justttt sayinnggggggg.
A recurring theme in the movie is that Forrest was always very obedient based on how simple his mind was. When he was told to never take his eye off the ball, he made sure to keep his eyes on the ball. Much like how Jenny's commands to run made him such a great runner.
is this not obvious?
@@wxrlp Man this comment is 9 years old, they don't care lmao
@@lasereye2733 Well now I got's to know.
@@richardmorrison1985 hmm?
More specifically, he never blinks when playing ping pong. That’s the “did you know?” context
Forest's level of efficiency (soldier, football, ping pong) is what you get when you take the brain of a genius then give them a one track mind.
It's crazy how smart Forest is when it comes to performing physical tasks. I bet he could have been a great mechanic
@@Bobsmith-xq2pr absolutely.
We, no, literally the opposite. Forest is a retard with sauvant gift. He takes everything quite literally. That's not to say that he doesn't have a huge heart or is any less of a person... which is the message of the film
Is he a genius? He seems pretty simple minded. I think the word you meant was prodigy.
@@radioactivedragonite2420 Both the word Prodigy and Genius can refer to the many forms of intelligence.
"My child is a prodigy"
"That guy is a genius!"
Neither word actually defines/implies the type of intelligence in context, be it street smarts, book smarts, physical intelligence....
Genius by definition can mean creativity and/or intelligence, and prodigy by definition basically mean exceptional talent in an unspecified manner.
The use of either genius or prodigy in this context is only a semantic difference, and either word is perfectly valid in this situation.
Forrest Gump had to have been written with Tom Hanks in mind. The movie was both simple and charming in its own way. I doubt that Forrest Gumps' character would have carried well with any other actor in the role. Tom Hanks earned his Oscar for this and no other reason.
John Fucking Travolta was asked to do the role haha.
kyle boulton Horshack woulda made a great forrest gump
it was based off a book.
+Kyle Boulton.........Bill Murray and Chevy Chase each turned down the role as well lol. Would have been a totally different film if either of them had signed on. Probably a more slapstick take on the character, which would have been very unfortunate
@@kyleboulton1963 I heard the author initially envisioned John Goodman as Forrest.
forrest gump cracks me up.Nobody could've done forrest gump better than tom hanks.
This role is for real as iconic as Indiana Jones
fr
I love how he laughs when he says "Ping-Pong came very natural to me". Like it was something he genuinely took pride in.
Why does everyone miss the joke and reason why he’s good at ping pong. He got told never take your eye off the ball, Forrest being Forrest does exactly that. Brilliant writing
thats literally the point, everyone realised that, you're not special
@@wxrlp damn who hurt you? This is the second comment in a row you replied to lmao, yeah sure I agree it’s pretty obvious but who the f cares
@@wxrlp Bruhhhhh xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
You have to be careful with that though - I was told that prior to playing in goal on the football (soccer) pitch. I developed quite a talent for saving the shots with my face..... I wasn't getting any prettier that's for sure! 😁
Brilliant writing?... lol
In 1969, Forrest joined the Army Special Services, where he entertained wounded military veterans with his Ping Pong skills. His exceptional skills earned him a place in the All-American Ping Pong team, with whom he traveled to China during the Ping Pong Diplomacy period of the early 1970s.
under the democracy of pong ping, the then-current emperor.
Come on Friend military Forrest
Makes you wonder why the army would discharge him.
The guy who told Forrest to never take your eye off the ball, needs recognition too!
He helped Forrest become a national hero!
That’s one of the people he rescued right?
The mindless way Forrest approached everything! LOL
42lookc he's like me
I wouldn't say mindless, he put his 100% into it
By mindless he means... Not thinking about results, representing nation, Many people watching etc... Just doing the thing and focusing on ping-pong... No second thought
Mindless, yet heartful. Dude's permanently in the zone.
Definitely not retarded, he charmed the pants off the nation
That is some Ping Pong Diplomacy right there. :)
when i got home... bomp!!
Kevin Kosmo 😎😂ikr..what when i got home what what whaaaaattt..
Gotta give the animators credit for making this all look so realistic.
I came here to see if Tom Hanks got really good at ping pong for this scene haha
"They said it made me look like a duck in water." That is definitely one of the cleverest lines in the movie.
Why does it make him look like a duck in water
@@branflakes12341it's an idiom to express someone who's naturally gifted at something. Ducks are naturally gifted swimmers, so being a "duck to/in water" means you're a natural.
love all the doors songs in this scene😍
The 3rd one was from Burnout Revenge on Xbox
When the guy told him to never take his eyes off the ball, when he plays he never blinks.
You skipped the part where Lieutenant Dan goes apeshit at Forrest for playing Ping Pong while he tried to sleep.
I didn't miss it ;)
stop trying to make me look bad
ckelcro *puts ice cream in the pot*
"I didn't ask you to pull me outta there"
@@strip.90 yes you did
"Never ever take your eyes off the ball"
My man took that so literally he doesn't even blink while playing.
One of the best movies ever!!!
+sarsafaty Best. Period.
+Sandy Agreed!:)
100th like
im The Doors fan because of this movie. RIP Ray
Fun Fact: Forrest never blinked during the ping pong scenes since he was told to never take his eyes off the ball.
Forrest played like a pro so fast he put on a great show.
1:14 cold war in a nutshell
You know there is some universe in the multiverse where schools are teaching History
and is probably the easiest class ever because the majority of answers are "Forrest Gump".
A little known fact, "During the Ping-Pong matches, there was no ball used. It was purely computer generated imagery."
THOSE DOORS SONGS THOUGH
Hope Roach From Burnout Revenge & Jarhead
Yeah but you could also hear People Are Strange in the beginning.
0:40 - "Even Lieutenant Dan came to watch me."
Dan looking out in the distance instead of the ping pong.
Lt. Dan: 🗿
Recently, I saw this film again. It always brings tears to my eyes. One of the most poignant lines is: "I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is." That being said, I still don't know about love. Maybe, in my next life cycle, I'll understand. :)
Chris McDade What?
And Jenny doesn’t know what love is lol
love is willing the good of the other as other
When I was in China on the All American Ping Pong team, I just loved playing Ping Pong with my Flexolite Ping Pong paddle.
Gotta love how they filmed this, professional ping pong player and Tom Hanks hitting air balls to the sound of a metronome
3 Doors songs in 10 seconds, I love it!
The Doors my love ❤️
The doors!

Men is a world class athletic, a millionaire, a philanthropist, a great son, also a great father who doesn’t mind if the son was really his.
I love all the doors songs in this part of the movie
Forrest Gump ™️ is a great 👍 Ping Pong 🏓 player!
My 1996 Grade School yearbook says in it that Forrest Gump is my favorite movie. I can honestly say that is still my favorite movie
Some SJW said this movie was degrading to mentally handicapped people...what?!?! This is one of the best movies to portray a mentally handicapped man!! Forrest actually did a lot with his life and was very successful at many things! He was also very independent! This movie shown how handicapped people can do anything they put their mind to! never get people who bash this movie because of that reason....people get offended about anything these days...
girlstorm09 no shit eh, I would put money on someone getting offended by the use of the term "sjw" or "snowflake"
my favorite thing about this scene was the 3 Doors songs in a row
Tom hanks should’ve gotten two Oscar’s for this role. Clearly one wasn’t enough
Once Forrest Gump started playing ping-pong, he got hooked to playing ping-pong.
"we were the first Americans to visit the land of China in like a million years or something like that" lmao
3 if The Doors’ song one after the other! Perfect!
Forest is the type of people listen to you, I mean really listen to you and keeps your words to his heart. He ran as Jenny told him to do so. He listened to all Sgt Drill commands. And he never ever let his eyes off the ball!
I love how he took everything people said so literally. Like, if he said he was going to do it, he was going to keep his word
Movie had some good tunes
dude you forget that Forrest Gump was a ping-pong badass
After all these years and watching this movie more than 5 times. It occurs to me that Forest Gump was more than likely portraying an austistic savant
Anyone remember that one ping pong movie with jack black I loved that movie as a kid
"When I got home- *CLUNK*
I play ping pong and I especially laugh whenever I see this part.
easily the best scene in Hollywood history. Shout out to lieutenant dan lol
In a way, it's almost a perfect meme because the last frame looks like the ping pong is going to hit you in the face at top speed.
I just got an ad for endless shrimp from Red Lobster. How perfect.
I liked getting an idea of how Forrest Gump got to play ping pong! It was probably my 1st time playing ping pong today and I did pretty good (I probably won the game a couple times), even though, I don’t have much or any experience playing ping pong.
“Never, ever take your eye off the ball”
“Thanks ray ray, sure you right”
the track list to this movie is so good
"Never take your eyes off the ball"
Cut out stand board of him holding a paddle with his eyes closed. lol
I recall that Tom Hanks said "I really am naturally good a pingpong."
"Any idiot can play." That's a good line.
I don’t know why ping pong makes me laugh😂😂😂just a generally funny sport
Forrest Gump is seriously talented in everything he does despite the fact that he was "dumb" and had a low IQ. this just shows that success isn't defined by how smart you are but how hard you worked for it
I would love to see a match of Forest vs Xu Xin or Ma Long
Forrest Gump would win
The Doors were a great 1960's rock band.
He maybe dumb but he had god level concentration
Which just goes to show how little intelligence matters in this world.
@@aaroncohenour559 it does matter a lot. But what really makes it effective is will power.
Dayum aint seen this cut in 20 years... this was a dope movie, classic
If Forrest Gump doesn't get to play ping pong nobody does
They never had the balls when they were filming the ping pong; that's some awesome CGI right there.
Mutually assured destruction looking for my kids
He never blinks : "never take eye off the ball"
this movie is freakin awesome
love this movie
This is one of my favorite movies when I was 8. I'm 12 now
The guy at 0:01 looks like Peter Brenton from ER
One of the best movies ever made
The ending tho gave me a heartache with my headphones on 😭🤣
ping pong is such a funny two words.
it's Acquarius - Let The Sunshine In
Is the same song that inspired the soundtrack of movie 'Hair'
All these accomplishments and barely anyone knows him?
Oh , you think in real world he would be known .. You dont even know .. many people did way better , more oustanding thing IRL and noone has an idea who they are .. unless they are rich or they are singer/actor
***** Dolly Parton
I think the funnest shit about the entire story is the fact that the one man finds out he is very rich but obviously doesn't believe him not knowing that Forrest doesn't care about money.
Playing ping pong isn't the only thing he's done though people. He was an all American football player, Vietnam Medal of Honor recipient , Olympic gold medalist, Face of AntiWar campaign, brief ties to Black Panther organization, multimillion dollar entrepreneur (sole shrimp provider), and World renown runner activist. (Sure I missed something) and a father. BTW fuck Jenny she was a bitch who didn't deserve forest at all
This movie is so great. I never get tired of it..😆
Wow, like 3 Doors songs in 30 seconds.
When he says I was in the special services 🤣
"When I got home...." BONK
This inspired me to start playing table tennis, been going for a year and a few months now.

Mike The Situation it's same like Forest Gump amazing
The moral of the seen is to take things simple "just playing ping pong", overthinking will stop you from succeed .
THIS SOUNDTRACK!!!
The doors in the background❤❤❤
I think Tom Hanks said they used a metronome which is what musicians use to keep timing so it was 1-2-3 HIT 1-2-3 HIT. So he had to keep in rhythm.
LIKE A BOSS!
A little FYI, in at least half those shots, the ping pong ball is a digital effect... for anyone interested in behind-the-scenes stuff. :)

Why watch the moon landing when you could watch a slow person play ping pong?
I just love flexo-lite ping pong paddle
I like the way he:s so mechanically good at ping pong.
"I played ping pong even when I didn't have anyone to play ping pong with!"
If I can play like him I'm already world champion of table tennis.
i wnat to know as a director how they were able to do the ping pong scene
Playing against the raised side is so bloody difficult, it doesnt make you a better player though, but it helps with reaction time.
It does not cause you can't hit with power since else you would not get the ball back on your side. Club players would loop the ball with to much topsoil and speed for it to come back on your side. If you only play with half the sid
