  • When this buck was ready to crash, he jumped backwards and landed on his rack shattering on side of his main beam. The hunter could not find all of the pieces, so in this video we will rebuild what is missing.

    My son bagged an 8 almost identical to your Brother's. He is on happy 16 year old. We are 40 miles east of Dothan. Already got him mounted up and drying. Gonna look awesome. Thanks fir the vids.

    Great antler repair work. I just started fleshing my first deer today. Following your videos. I highly,highly and did I say highly commend you for your ability to flesh so many deer with a scalpel blade. I’m kinda struggling around the nose and eyes, but I’ll keep rewinding the videos. Great job.

    So I followed your videos and have successfully mounted my first whitetail. Now all I have to do is let it dry and epoxy and paint. Thank you again for all of your taxidermy videos. Great information and easier than others I’ve watched. As soon as I figure out how to send you a photo of my mount I will. When you get a fleshing machine please make a video.

    Really enjoying your videos and the way you walk through everything in such a detailed but easy to understand way. I was wondering do you have any experience with the whitetail kits from McKenzie or Van Dyke? Are the mannequins that come with these kits decent quality or not really the best? Do they really have everything that I would need/want to mount a deer or is there more that I would ideally purchase aside from what's included?

  • @erikr6691
    @erikr6691 Год назад

    Nice. Have you ever considered doing a cast mold of the intact antler section to make a whole matching piece to fill in the void? I know striations will be off on some but may help on some to just fill in cracks with epoxy.

    Thank you for all the great videos! I've watched them all intensely getting ready for my first deer mount . I was able to tag a nice 9 point for my first deer and wanted to try mounting it myself. Your videos made that possible, so thank you! It is not perfect by any means, but it looks good from a far, good enough for my purpose.
    One question I had: when I was turning the lips, I must've cut some lip off the top without noticing it, so I did not have enough skin to tuck on the one side. What would you personally do if you didn't have enough lip to tuck into the form on one side?
    Thanks again for all the great videos!

    Do taxidermists check for cwd or no, didn't know how that worked or if it affected if a deer could be mounted or not

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Год назад +1

      Not in Alabama. We have one small cwd zone in the far NW corner of the state, and I believe the deer killed there are checked when harvested.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Год назад +1

      Yes. As a matter of fact, the baking soda will make it feel kinda funny. Just make sure it is rinsed really well after neutralizing, and then towel dried well before applying the tan.

    I have a question for you about the mounted deer heads, my favorite uncle died in the woods hunting and he had his biggest buck mounted in the late 1960's and his mount was passed around after his wife died, and I have the mounted head, and the ears are split and loose and distorted some, is there a way to get the ears look good again and would you please tell me how to do this work for the respect I have for my uncle

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Год назад +1

      You can get a cape and have him remounted at any time, but if you just want to fix the ears, you might can use Bondo, gorilla glue gel, or a 2 part epoxy to fix the splitting. If they are broken away from the head at the butts, you can get a couple of long screws and run them through the inner ear and into the mannequin to help hold them back in place.

    • @dano9421
      @dano9421 Год назад +1

      @@thecedarridgechronicles they are just split at the top of the ears and the rest of the mount is in good condition and it is very sentimental to me because my uncle and his wife pretty much raised me until my parents moved to Maine for the next 8 years and by then he was already buried and the family pretty much took everything he had and only after my aunt died that I was able to get most of it back but the mount seen some hard times and got stored in a garage for years and that's how they split and thank you for the information you gave me
