- Five worked-out examples demonstrating the basics of evaluating functions at a given value. For example: find f(2) when f(x) = 3x + 1. Be sure to pay attention to the last example, which is a classic trouble-spot for algebra students (double negative).

It’s an example, any input is a correct input so he just picked a random number and since only 5.1 percent of the populations chances are that it was a random pick and it wasn’t subject to numerical prejudice.

You don't. It's what you put there if the Test says something like. Find F(7) find X. Then you put the 7 in the parentheses. It depends on what the Test says . That's how you get the numbers there. I hope I'm clear

I need help, My teacher put the x at the very back, and i don't know if i should multiply first then calculate or i should calculate then multiply and then calculate.
For ex:
x=3
f(x) 9 - 6x
f(3) 9 - 6(3)
Should i do 9 - 6 first? Or should i do 6(3) first?

No. Addition and subtraction have the same value so if you encounter questions like this always answer from left to right. I know I'm late better than never tho.

If f(x)= 4x^2-5x+3 evaluate the following:
f(5)
what's the answer?
=4(5)²-5(5)+3
=4(25)-25+3
=100-25+3
f(5)=78
But how did you get 5 in the first equation!?

ikr that's what I got I thought we were supposed to use PEMDAS
Addition and subtraction are equal in the PEMDAS order. So when you have both, you simply go left to right. So it’s 9-6=3, then 3+5=8

for example f(x)=2x+1,where f(X) is 1
f(x)=2x+1
=2(1)+1
=2+1
=3
