I have been so scared to learn any new application as it takes a hell lot of time but then I stumbled upon this playlist and man! today, after watching this video, I have finally made something in figma! Thanks a lot for this playlist.
20:29 Now that checkbox has been removed. To do the same thing now, you go to the Prototype bar and there will be a position dropdown menu, select Fixed to make it so those layers don't scroll.
Perfectly paced tutorial! Not only that, this tutorial taught me all the important features I need to know as a beginner! I'm actually a web developer who started learning web designing for my personal projects. I was afraid of using design tools. Now this tutorial helped me to enjoy designing with Figma!
This tutorial gives a wholesome & pragmatic foundation. I could learn and try to apply it directly. Even tho I need to pause frequently & switch back and forth between the RUclips screen & my own Figma screen to test it out, I feel quite satisfied to follow and learn from it. Thanks for creating and sharing this tutorial! :>
Hello,if you've completed designing this app could you please tell me where did you get those pets images from ? I'm unable to find them in design file.
At 14:52, the setting to change the ends of the lines to Round is no longer in the Advanced Stroke popup; instead, there are left and right line endings dropdowns with the first several being arrow types but then at the bottom is round/square selection.
I found it necessary to Lock the Feed component (by clicking on the padlock icon) before dragging the Floating Action Button component over it or the button would insert itself into the feed, or above it.
if you are trying to get the shadow effect to work 18:57 and you can't because it doesn't look like the video, just know you can either set a bigger frame and use the shadow effect on the circle itself, or just untick the "Clip content" box on the frame. Hope this helps!
20:32 That checkbox has been removed. To do the same thing, select your FAB button/icon , go got Prototype > Under scroll behaviour > set the position to Fixed.
Hello,if you've completed designing this app could you please tell me where did you get those pets images from ? I'm unable to find them in design file
The content cover all the basic things and i loved that, I don't have to waste my time on 10 different videos. But i feel there is some parts in the video that are shown with simplicity, I would really appreciate sometimes that the video is not that clean and they go a little out of the way to teach some difficult parts.otherwise I have to perform different methods and time to do the simplest thing. Great content❤
You're welcome, Waqar! Figma is trying to make design accessible for everyone, and really happy to hear that this series helped you. Can't wait to see what you design!
Content is very helpful. What I found very annoying (as a beginner who are just learning the program) is that since the video was created Figma changed its layout so finding things shown in the video is very difficult to replicate (e.g. instead of "Fill container" - mentioned at 9:46 in the video - now it shows "Hug content / Fixed width"). And this is only one example... :(
20:32 the fix position option is now moved to the prototype section. select the navbar then go to prototype. in prototype under Scroller behavior set the position to fix.
Thanks for your helpful videos. I found something as a missing part in this video in part "Floating Action Button (FAB)". You didn't say we should lock the main frame before putting this button in the Home frame!
I would like to add my input by saying in vectors nad booleans section when u go for "advanced stroke" u wont find round shape their rather click on center in the strokes section itself u will find there and must say figma is doing awesome job..
There's a major mistake in the section titled "Plugins, color, and accessibility". High contrast text does NOT create eye strain. Actually, low contrast text is what creates eye strain -- as the reader strains to read text that is too light. And the W3C guideline of 7.1 is the MINIMUM level of contrast to be passable. That means, it is a starting point. The more contrast the better. Black text on a white background -- or vice versa -- is actually the best and comes out at 21:1.
I watched this video with difficulty. The robotic voice and background music were a distraction all the way. I appreciate the content, but I think the delivery of that content can be hugely improved.
And then when you follow along exactly stuff doesnt work like how do I lock the button and nav bar so it doesnt scroll the option doesnt even come up under constraints
Great tutorial, BUT doen t apply to latest Figma versions, Auto layout works differently when setting space, so it s a bit frustrating because Figma wont do as in the video.
Hello Béla, sorry for the frustration! Even though the UI is not up-to-date in this tutorial, the underlying principles of auto layout are the same. We announced new updates for auto layout earlier this month, you can check out this tutorial to learn more: ruclips.net/video/floQKLsWAy4/видео.html
hey, teams of @figma I want to say thank you and how amazing you are! Thank you for providing such great lessons and solutions!.... Also, one correction in this video, at 2:26, says ctr l+ G to hide auto layout, but it is shift + G. I got confused here.
Also if anyone feels like the video is too fast, don't forget you can adjust the speed by clicking the settings gear on the video, I found going to custom and changing the playback speed to 0.85 was enough so it wasn't going so fast but not to slow that it warps the audio.
It would be so SO much more useful if it was updated to how the tool looks today. It's such a pain not finding the things he shows or even the short cuts not working because they are not the same.
I have brand new up to date videos using the free version of figma that may be what your looking for any support is appreciated, heres a link to the first lesson ruclips.net/p/PL7Jdp5ioe1GLO9YbSpgi4Le8v9C_9x9Kh
@figma - ERROR HIGHLIGHT - At 2:28 the tutor says that to get rid of Grids use Ctrl and G. This is wrong, that is the short-cut for Groups. The correct short-cut is SHIFT and G. I created loads of Groups and got confused... again.
For the FAB, how do I figure out what's 32 points from the bottom corner, when the alt key only shows me how far it's from the overall feed that is much longer than the Google Pixel frame?
3:08 Stop with all the shortcuts! What is with alt being used both to duplicate stuff and to show the ruler? It would have also helped if you'd mentioned that creating a component and creating this component page were two separate things in the beginning. Much of the time Fixed Position when scrolling is not even an option, and when it does show up, it only works part of the time in preview. I also can't agree with rushing through the last sections of this with pre-made content.
Hey Giorgi, make sure that the description text layer is set to Fill container (or fixed width), and not, Hug contents. Also be sure that all of the posts are in a vertical auto layout frame so that they will be pushed down as the text grows. You can also grab a copy of the finished design file in the video description, so you can reverse engineer the components to see how they were built!
@@Figma Description layer set to Fill container , all the posts are in vertical layout ( constraints & resizing - hug contents ) but post didnot shift below after editing the text
the keybindings are different. in the video, it says to hide layout grids by pressing (ctrl + G), but in fact, it's (ctrl + shift + 4). atleast that's for me.
in the video at 17:09 how are you getting icons in assets? Are these the ones which you have created as components, i did also make as components but there is nothing in my assets. please guide.
Fantastic tutorials! 🌟 However, I've been finding it a bit challenging to hear the speech clearly due to the high volume of the looping music in the background. Any chance the music could be adjusted or toned down in future videos? Would greatly enhance the overall learning experience. Thanks for considering! 🎧🙏
Really confused and also frustrated with this tutorial. I’m following the steps and i do not see an auto layout on my Figma in 9:36. I clicked my image too but all i see is constraints layer, fill stroke effects and export
OK. I had to watch a second time to get some of the nittiy-gritty. But, really helpful video. I really wish the animated gifs were provided somewhere for download.
In 3:03, how did you position it 8px above? I've tried selecting both shapes and then modifying vertical space, but that moves the rectangle instead of the circle
Thanks for creating this! I have a silly question. How does one download the image files from the design file in one go? The only method I've found is manually clicking on PNG files and downloading one by one.
12:25 Cannot find any available sources for “1-Post-[Name of Animal].png” Only found “1-Profile-[Name of Animal].png” which shows the tutorial needs a refresher for beginners
@3:30 Cannot add assets to frames. I'm using the free version. It works if I have a file, but there appears no other way to add something. I tried the option with fill and you still need a file. The video does not show us where they get the images, or another way to do it. I took snip of the largest asset, and just used that for both images since assets will not work.
IKR? This is obsolete. Watching this in March 2023 and it's confusing, many things have changed. They should delete this series and make an updated one...
thank you for your explanation, i have an issue at the part of " FAB " 18:20 , what did you do before drag and place the button, In my case, when i drop it (whatever the button is) it doesn't go on the image but at only between each feed, i mean they already went to go as a component(avatar, authorname, and image) so it blocked !!! ... if i can see your layer information i could... edit them. but ... i don't know. please let me know. ! :)
I like this training. really hands on. I do have one question: is there somewhere a set of files that match with this training. So the avatars and others?
@@Figma So, I think I found the way. I had to select a phone from the list (Google does not exist), then I could press on the arrow next to the Frame and then all the phones appeared.
The section on Auto-Layout is too quick and doesn't clearly set out what actions the tutor is doing. When I think I am mirroring the instructions Figma behaves in a completely different way. Very confusing.
Part of the confusion is that when the tutor pulls out the component and makes copies he leaves the Asset tab open rather than the layers, I think I have followed the steps exactly by when I look at the layers in frames on the lefthand bar, they look nothing like what is on screen. I know the issue is to do with the positioning of the frames, although I can't work it out and where I don't know what I'm doing I can't work out why the Clip Content operation has no effect on the layers I have created.
Hi, you can apply fix position in a free plan. We've moved the scroll position settings to the Prototype tab, learn more from our Help Center: help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039818734-Prototype-scroll-and-overflow-behavior#h_01HHN645G0BKW2ZA5XRYYJA3PZ
12:01 what is "enter" supposed to do? The button appears but the narration doesn't explain its function. I followed step by step but at this point, when I create the auto-layout the result is completely different. All the instances slip all the way down outside of the frame and only 1 instance remains visible.
can someone explain to me how to get the plugin Stark and color blind simulation? I don't have that as my plugin and I don't know how to get it on Figma. It doesn't show on the Figma Community when I tried to search for it. Thanks!
Anybody else having issues with autolayout and contrains??? need more info about...i´m not really good at. Pausing every time something wasn´t quite right 😅
Is this tutorial made with the latest version of the program? I can't seem to find resizing or padding when I choose the same objects as done in the tutorial. I'm confused... Besides that; great to have a learning arena in Figma.
The padding demonstration at 10:05 doesn't produce any net result. It would have been better to employ it when there were neighboring objects in an auto-layout.

On resizing fill the container option is not available. In my newest software auto layout is not working well.
can someone explain to me how to get the plugin Stark and color blind simulation? I don't have that as my plugin and I don't know how to get it on Figma. It doesn't show on the Figma Community when I tried to search for it. Thanks!
it's in the community when you search for 'stark', but under Plugins, which is the second tab. install it
