One thing you can do on your adjustment panel is change the setting from "always place a mask on a new adjustment" to not put a mask on. That way the adjustment is selected by default and not the mask and if you need to go back and mask something, then you can add it as you see fit.

I have been using photoshop on and off for side projects for years and I STILL cant seem to get into the habit of using nondestructive methods like adjustment layers, masking etc. I always end up using CTRL-J + filter or edit too much. I think strict adherence to the use of adjustment layers with masks is how you can spot a pro from an armature haha

Practice the basics over and over again and you'll even find your own style. You can't run before you can walk. It's a wonder to see how much I grew up with your techniques... (I remember 'how to steal color grading' video is great way to start learning things) But u know, I currently got headache from matching colors from the photos I took for my clients. I have to take them in different places for the same client. But even if it's the same place and time photos have different feel and vibe some time. It's a ton of work to match them. How did I miss this one? Well anyway I've seen it now. Thank you. I keep thinking that I really need to take a course on just basic photoshop skills. Where I would have homework on using the various tools available. Blend if, Gradient Map, Pen curve tool, so many things I just don't know how to use. Makes it very hard to do as you suggest, which is to look at it and use logic to figure out what to do. For that, I think I need a MUCH stronger base of specific knowledge of the various techniques. Thank you. Maybe I could sign up for a college class. Do you have any recommendations?

Am I the only one that feels overwhelmed watching these tutorials? 😵💫 I appreciate his expertise and his sharing, but God, it's too many buttons and clicks for me! I can't see myself editing like that in the future 😓
It's how photo editing software in computer works, not just photoshop. I think when you get used to your way around photoshop, it's not that complicated. Those sliders, adjustment panels... are all frequently used parts in photoshop daily basis. I take your comment as you just haven't use the software and more familiar with smartphone app where the steps probably very clear and easier to follow.

Simpler is always better when it comes to technique. Remember, a camel is just a horse designed by a committee. To any newcomer or novice out there, stay consistent. Practice the basics over and over again and you'll even find your own style. You can't run before you can walk. I've been a PS novice for fifteen years and things are always changing, but the basics are always the same. Keep at it, and good luck. Great uplifting video.

It's a wonder to see how much I grew up with your techniques... (I remember 'how to steal color grading' video is great way to start learning things)
But u know, I currently got headache from matching colors from the photos I took for my clients. I have to take them in different places for the same client. But even if it's the same place and time photos have different feel and vibe some time. It's a ton of work to match them. How can I color grade them productively?
And one more thing, I feel like I don't have a style when it comes to color grading. It's a total nightmare for me as a photographer. There are a number of photographers who are doing it consistently (seems like effortlessly).

How did I miss this one? Well anyway I've seen it now. Thank you. I keep thinking that I really need to take a course on just basic photoshop skills. Where I would have homework on using the various tools available. Blend if, Gradient Map, Pen curve tool, so many things I just don't know how to use. Makes it very hard to do as you suggest, which is to look at it and use logic to figure out what to do. For that, I think I need a MUCH stronger base of specific knowledge of the various techniques. Thank you. Maybe I could sign up for a college class. Do you have any recommendations?

Am I the only one that feels overwhelmed watching these tutorials? 😵💫 I appreciate his expertise and his sharing, but God, it's too many buttons and clicks for me! I can't see myself editing like that in the future 😓
It's how photo editing software in computer works, not just photoshop. I think when you get used to your way around photoshop, it's not that complicated. Those sliders, adjustment panels... are all frequently used parts in photoshop daily basis. I take your comment as you just haven't use the software and more familiar with smartphone app where the steps probably very clear and easier to follow.
