One thing I have done to help mapping go faster was making a bunch of word documents of snip-its of various sub model groups of props. This was a bit time consuming up front, but has been very beneficial for my mapping. I could open a Rosa Wreath sub model picture and compare it to what I have like a Grand Illusion sub model. It also helped me build sub models that were closeish to what I was mapping from. You could possibly make these for your model groups. You could have the group order and then also include a small picture of what the sub model looks like without having to open up into your layout. Its been crazy how many sub models I've had to create for all the various sequences I've purchased.

Now, that's great feedback. Yes, I fear because there are two camps in the model/submodel arena this creates more work which is why I am hoping the xLights developers might find a way to make it easier for both. Thanks for sharing.

can you provide a link to even part of what you've done please ? I'd be keen to see how you've done it, and try to recreate something similar for my display.

@@brendanpratt7760 Can you be more specific? I'm not sure what you are referring to.

This is very helpful. I’m going to try some of these tips. Most of my mappings are pretty close to the original but I’m struggling with some vendors.

Have a few questions but will ask after I rewatch on my laptop and have xlights open so I can try first.

so I have the mapping pretty good for the high density spinners and such, I'm struggling a little on the pixel poles to the insane poles

i mapped you poles to the sticks sub model group
but if you look around 35 seconds and other places the poles don't seem to follow your effects, I've tried mapping to other groups that come with the model in xlights

Why so many groups? Groups should be illegal, especially when you only have a single model.

I'm afraid we will have to disagree on this, Alex. It's what many have used for years and continues to offer expected results. That's sort of like complaining about the number of options in xLighs. Look at any given dropdown. Now, that's something that we could all benefit from less of, don't you think? Perhaps we will see some instructional videos from you as a developer to help the community better understand your position.

@@xTremeSequences I've added a few things to make the navigation of the nightmare group & model list much easier. I'm not a sequencer, but my OCD kicks in with having all those groups that can be acheived by simply having the right layered submodels. Master View order would also be a lot easier for people to do and understand. There's the Keep X&Y to help with making the SM easier. The intro of HD should have signaled a change in behaviour and shift to submodel sequencing. Don't get the wrong, there are times when you need them, CC, MT, Bats, Ghosts, but for HD to have a 1:1 group to SM or groups for a single model... nah....

@@alexb4734 Got it. So your OCD should dictate the direction of processes in xLights. C'mon, man. That is silly. No, you are not a sequencer. I am. If there was a better way to express my artistry I would like to think I would already be doing it, but there is always room for improvement. When sequencing you have to look at a lot of things. For instance, the ShowStopper model has a LOT of submodels you have to scroll through when sequencing them. What's difference in that and seeing a lot of groups that contain submodels that allow you to evenly spread the effects to all of the submodel groups at once? Nothing. Like I said in the video, there are many ways to use xLights and none of them are wrong. They are choices and choices are what many of us have been accustomed to. Let's keep it that way and find solutions to both ways. That seems like a logical approach most developers would consider.
