Dr. Carter I think you should develop a script about the trials and tribulations of the observers. An element of the Great War that has largely gone unheralded but as you suggest their role in directing friendly fire, enemy troop movements made them an indispensable part of the conflict. Looking forward to the next video.

@@commonwealthmongrel1668 I always need good video ideas, and such a topic could be a logical follow on. Delve a bit deeper rather than the broad brush I did. It is clear from the stats that indeed there were severe trials and tribulations they encountered. I will see what I can find, what material is available. I greatly appreciate this.

Another great video. I was familiar with the legendary Frank Luke but I did not realize the size of American balloon operations in WWI.

I didn't know much about balloon combat operation in WWI. After watching this, I suppose being in the balloon would be better than in the trenches, but I would much rather be in an airplane.

@@shanghaiyancey ha. Yes, those balloon soldiers liked better fed and cared for than trench soldiers. Thanks for watching Yancey.

    Great video
I knew they used hydrogen to lift the balloons but was thinking it was much more flammable than it actually was
Pretty perilous being a target in plain view as soon as they left the ground
    Not for me
    😂
