He didn´t hug her because he could get infected, and he didn´t say goodbye or anything alike because Joel is a man who doesn´t show his emotions much but he sure was in pain in the inside.
Like Tess said, "I never asked you for anything, not to feel the way I felt." Tess loves Joel but Joel is emotionally closed off because of the loss of Sarah. Tess knows he can't return her feelings. That also prevents any emotional "goodbyes" because of his emotional damage.
The pre-credits scene wasn't in the game, neither did the one from the first episode! They were great additions since in the game the origin of the Cordyceps is not really explained.
People overreact about the zombie vs. infected thing, call them zombies if you want, the important part is that they are not dead, but sick alive people. Technically, the term zombie can apply to this as well, most people just associate it with walking corpses that eat people.
To answer your question about how they shot the outdoor shots. They shot them in various locations in Alberta, Canada. The scenes in this episode in particular were shot in Edmonton and Calgary. They used a combination of practical effects, real burned out cars, and greenery, then touched it up and added more destruction and stuff with CGI. The skyline shot towards the beginning of the episode was shot in Calgary, and is recognizable as a blend of the Calgary sky line and some recognizable buildings from Boston added with CGI.
As one who played the game, this is the first time I'm watching someone who hasn't played it experience the show, and I loved this video. Your confusions and questions and perceptions are very entertaining and interesting :)
The people that make a big deal out of the word zombie are ridiculous. I've played the game dozens of times and I don't understand where that "excuse me, over here, look at me. Actually they aren't zombies they're infected so stop saying zombies... it's insulting to my culture." comes from. I'm guessing somewhere obnoxious because they never bothered to check if that comment had already been made 100 times.
I remembered when this first came out, I was also triggered when they were referred to as "zombies" but I think it's because I never liked the run of the mill zombie movies, tv series, getting eaten, eating brains blah blah.. lol No the idea of being infected or mutated versus reanimated was always a more plausible...and terrifying...storyline for me. Here with fungi, and movies like "I Am Legend" where it was a vaccine with really bad side effects 🙂 I do love how you raise questions and guesses on how it will go and I'm here virtually answering like, "yes...yes, wait no, but CLOSE.." LOL Enjoying your reactions!
I don't know if you caught it in the flooded hotel lobby scene, but Ellie can't swim. I loved your GOT reactions back in the day, so hyped to find out you're doing this series, Pilar!
Late to view this, so you likely have seen, Joel at this point has closed his heart. Since losing Sarah he refuses to let people in, Tess came about as close as anyone and seeing that she was going to die, he disassociated as a defense mechanism. He couldn't process emotions and survive.
Infected/Zombies, whatever..people are over critical at times🥴I totally agree as well Joel should have said goodbye with a hug at the least. Extremely sad ending and nothing like what happens in the game. Similar but totally different. Great episode thanks so much Pilar🙂Can't wait to see future reactions from you, I think we're in for a wild ride with this series🥰
I didn't know fans of the game, myself included, were so obnoxious about calling them zombies. So many reactors coming on and apologizing like they used a racial slur or something. I'm embarrassed for the rest of the fans.
@@texn7526 thats too true. 🥬 is how I started to notice when I do that annoying shit myself.😂 People underestimate it. I solve problems and see other people's perspectives while stoned.
1st of probably a few comments from me regarding this ep... so excuse the spam.. just yappin as i go... openimg scen yo this ep is yet again epic..and desperate.... adds to the lore of the game and is in todays culture after covid kinda fkn scary 😆
Oh man Pilar I hope you don't feel that we were attacking you because you were calling them zombies Lol. When I first started playing the game I was calling them zombies also until I learned the difference from the director of the game and the show they said they're not zombies because they are technically alive But if you feel comfortable calling them zombies call them zombies It's not going to stop us from watching your videos!
It doesn't matter if you call them infected or zombies. It's just a matter of you understanding the difference. Because that's not unimportant. Especially not for our protagonists. After Sarah's death, Joel has completely shut down emotionally. This was already shown in episode 1 when he threw the boy into the fire. That's why he doesn't say anything to Tess, he can't, because when you say something it becomes true. But you can see the pain in his face and how he briefly presses his jaw together. Tess gave him a mission. Your last wish. That's how he shows it, he tried to fulfills it. 🙂
Ffs they are absolutely zombies. Objecting to that is such 'well actually' bs. What do objectors think zombies are? Maybe they think being *undead* is strictly necessary for being a zombie... but pretty much any definition of 'dead' would equally apply or fail to apply to the Last of Us' 'infected'. The Last of Us is squarely in the 'zombie apocalypse' genre, they just have mushroom zombies... they just happen to explain zombiehood by invoking a fungal infection.
Tess dying like sarah was sorta a nothing moment in game..not that it wasn't impactful..but was a means to an end..once again the show...showed more depth and for the better... rip tess..
There were pixels dots moving up the wall behind you, the first time it happened I thought it was an insect. Thought OMG Pilar isn't going to like that. 😁😁😁 But it kept happening and I realized it was nothing but your lamp or somethign. Unless your place is really really infested. 🤣🤣🤣

he also had about 30 seconds before the place was swarmed

These intros are not in the game. They are a very nice addition :)
Nice to see you back, Pilar!
Wow cool fact about the yellow at 2:25, I didn't know that, but all 4 of those things make sense!
I still remember exactly what I was doing in 2003 of 24th September.

i thought you stopped with this show, glad youre back with it.
Don't worry about calling them zombies. The people who insist on Infected are insufferable

I use “zombies” on purpose, especially for those that are bothered by it.
