Great vid! Had some questions: - Do you know anyone that broke into PE from accounting e.g. big 4 - Can you do a finance Jobs tier list video? - What's the career progression like in PE and how does the work life balance change over time?
Yes, I do know people breaking into investment banking from accounting, it’s possible. I don’t think I’ll ever rank jobs. I honestly believe people should do what they enjoy not what other people think is good. I noticed with the people around me is the fastest way people burn out is if they’re stuck in a job they didn’t like but went into it for other reasons like money and prestige. But if you’re still interested in tier lists there are def other videos out there shows that. I started in IB after college and went into PE after 3 years. Hours are slightly better in PE, I would say I went from 70 to around 60 a week.
Glad to see another upload and very exited to hear more uploads to come! I do have a finance career based question for you. I have been working in financial due diligence (Quality of Earnings) for a middle-market level firm within their corporate finance division and am at an associate type level position. I graduated from a non-target school with an B.S in accounting. I have always been interested in exploring transitioning to investment banking. Do you think banks would find my background very transferable? Do you think going to MBA route is worth it or overall the long-term better play? Again, excited for more content! Thanks.
Yes, corporate finance is pretty relevant for investment banking. I started my career at a corporate finance/investment banking hybrid firm where we did debt placements as well as some M&A and equity raises, ended up transitioning into investment banking. If you network with the right people should be ok in my opinion.
@@casualbusiness okay, thank you! Would you recommend investing in a modeling course like wallstreet prep to get up to speed on the modeling aspect that I may not utilize within my FDD role?
@@tylers8083 Modeling courses are definitely useful. I've never tried Wall Street Prep when I was still in school, I remember only using free source. I heard Wall Street Prep is pretty helpful.
Hey brother wish everything is going well there in Canada. Firstly, I would like to appreciate this such informative and clear video talking bot something I am about to throw my Resumes and CVs at. Secondly, may I ask a favor of you to give me some advise of what type of job should I find first as a grad school student(graduating next month). I'm trying to look for an entry level financial analyst job but I dont have much work experience. So would you like to share some of your past experience when you just graduated from College or grad school? Thank you so much and I really appreciate that! Really looking forward to hear from you and more importantly your next video! BTW I LOVE ANIMES AND POKEMON GAMES AS WELL!
Hi Steven, I do believe at the end of the day getting your foot in the door is the most important aspect. For someone who is looking to break into any industry, take the opportunity that offers the most relatable experience for your next job. If you find it hard to get a full time position, I would just look for internships instead. When I was in university I had an internship with a tiny boutique investment bank, but the experience alone was able to carry me through full time and eventually the job after.
Let me know which aspects of private equity you would be interested to see other than financial modeling, investment memos and asset management
