Hey just wanted to say thank you, hard to believe that 1/2 inch of barely corroded wire on negative terminal was exactly what was causing this same problem in my 97 ranger but worked like a charm, thanks again.
1. My starter is making the exact same noise - very grateful to you for this video. 2. You've got seriously beautiful hands. 3. Do you really have to do the negative side too?
Great Video. But also clean all the Body Grounds. On my 2000 Focus i scraped the Paint for better ground Contact. Noticed, Car running better, Air conditioning was stronger and Headlights. 👍
Once had my Chevy Blazer die on the road, had it towed down the road to repair shop, turned out to be small area of corrosion under one of the side-mounted battery terminals. Mechanics laughed and fixed it for nothing, but the tow wasn't free...
I just watched 3 RUclips videos for rapid clicking and all were battery acid/corrosion. I'm feeling hopeful because my starter appears to be a bitch to replace.
Fun stuff at 9:14 : How did that piece ( a socket ??) near positive terminal suddenly appear ? :) Now, serious staff : are those pieces you used for battery terminal available as a package shown at 7:25 ? On an old car like mine, the wiring/cabling is not as tidy as in this video, making it difficult to rearrange.
haha @9:14 I tightened it slightly more and the socket came off. Yes those pieces came in one package. I got these at Walmart, but I have also seen them at Pep Boys.
Hello i have 2003 sunfirre and i have full power to my interior accessories and headlights but i get fast clicking sound My battery is side terminal and i tighten the terminal as best i could It doesnt look corrosion or damage at all but somehow i dont have a good connection Do i have to remoce the terminal to clean or i clean with terminal on? I am sure my battery is good just not connection
Yeah that is the sound my bakkie makes, very frustrating we charged the battery, mase sure is nice and tight, as well as clean but still making the clicking sound, but will try this.
okay so i went to start my pick up truck it clicked twice the engine light turned on, so i pulled the key out and tried again but this time it actually started and no engine light came up, would you possibly know what the cause of that is? and if so what to do to fix it?
We're negative 12 degrees and my car is making same noise i started my car at three am and it worked so idk what happened since then but what's wrong what is that noise
I am not sure how much it costs. This was my first time doing it as well just by looking up RUclips videos. This is why I tried to show step-by-step because I don't know about cars either and just wanted to post. I would assume around $250 maybe?
@@KiLLF33D2013 Thanks for the reply! So is it that the starter's pinion isnt engaging the flywheel's teeth (and just clanking against the side of the flywheel) or is it that the pinion is engaging the flywheel teeth but not spinning the flywheel at a sufficient rpm to start the combustion cycle? And I apologize in advance if this is a painfully newbie question.
what about that sound is indicative of a bad connector? im getting that same sound on my 2017 camry and i highly doubt that it would be a bad connector already. is that just more so just what it sounds like when the starter isn't getting enough current and therefore could be anything thats redusincing current flow?
There are definitely a few reasons for that sound. This is just one of them. Luckily it is super simple to check since you just have to look at the cable. If your cables are fine, then I am not sure sorry
Loss of battery draining from alternator is possible cause, I'm bout to find out later if mine finally stops the same issue. Battery keeps draining, 3 actually.
@@ipswichfc3252 Yes I did, Battery was died but the Alternator had a bad diodes in it too which caused the clicking in my case. Dont take the alternator to the part store, they dont test for diodes just current of the pulley. Mine read good when it was bad the whole time. Running like a champ now but waiting on a A/C Condensor fan now.
I'm currently having that exact issue. Did you happen to resolve it? Vehicle works perfect other than loud clicking for 10 seconds when i turn the key to the ON position.
@@Dylan2996oct It was the earth strap from the starter motor to the chassis, I replaced the bolt where it bolts on to the chassis, it fixed it.. Good luck

I suggest soldering, dielectric grease (silicon paste) , and heat shrink

My Jeep Patriot makes same noise but it starts after the clicking, does it means that my battery or starter is going to die soon

2003 Volvo S40 same issue
whats the cause of having this kind of noise in wiring
So...my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee does this same thing, but it starts after a couple tries. Is it just dumb luck or could it be something different?

So what was the part (or parts) that was responsible for the noise itself? I.e. what was the source of the clicking noise?
The starter solenoid clacking against the flywheel, but it's unable to spin over fast enough.
