The "updated for modern audiences" thing irks me. I love Tolkien because it _isn't_ modern, because his style and stories are old-fashioned, bordering on mythical. It dears to be stories about something bigger than ourselves. Seeing his high-elves reduced to your average high-schoolers is panful to watch.
Why do we read Fantasy? Escapism. Our world sucks (something you can agree upon, regardless of your politics). So, I love to indulge in other worlds that have different problems, different perspectives, different beasts, people and monsters. I don't want to be reminded of the real world in fantasy. Not even in Game of Thrones did that ever happen, even though they had so much political debate within the narrative.

What is impressive is the huge lack of knowledge the writers have about the characters. I would forgive it if they at least wrote them accordingly with Peter Jackson's trilogy (They were perfectly written for movies that had to tell such a huge story lore wise.) Yet they simply ruin important characters that have a huge legacy. Galadriel is one of the eldest Elves in the whole story, instead she is written like a 20 yo college girl. Elrond who is from a great line of Elves and is known for his wisdom is written as a sceptic antagonistic dude that shouldn't have a thing to say to Galadriel. Sauron an angelic being of great might is simply killed by an orc in the most simplistic and pathetic way. Isildur who is known as a great warrior is reduced to some child that knows nothing of the world. It is frustrating. Never would Galadriel rush recklessly into anything, never would she ignore Elrond's concerns. Never would prime Sauron get outsmarted by an orc, nor would he ever need to be crowned/accepted by orcs. His might alone would grant him such an influence over the mind of these lesser beings. The show is written by people who are trying to transpose todays society into a magnificent story. Galadriel is the 20 yo woman, that needs to free herself from the shackles of the patriarchy and experiment the world by her rules. Elrond is the lesser knowledgeable male, that has no say in what is right or wrong. Sauron is the dumb and evil being that needs a powerful woman at his side to achieve his goal. It needs to stop...
The PJ films significantly degrade almost every character. Literally, most characters are turned into caricatures. And often his 'characters' act or behave in a manner completely opposite to their book counterparts.
I gave season 2 a chance out of blind hope, which was immediately crushed. I couldn't make it past episode 3. I needed to re-watch the extended version of "The Two Towers" as a palate-cleanser...

It's not just bad writing...they are actively taking the piss out of Tolkien's work and the fan base. That penny dropped for me when Cirdan made his appearance. In the books he was only mentioned briefly, but what was highlighted so well is the fact he was the only bearded elf in Middle Earth, and he was the oldest. The beard added so much mystique and legend to Cirdan that it sticks with the reader. In that first scene I thought YES! They've finally got something right. Second scene, they show him shaving the beard off. Why? Why do that? The only reason could be a deliberate attempt to trash the source material and sit back saying "well what are you going to do about it?"

I dont think that they are gonna cancel it. They don't care about the views or the amount of money that was wasted on it. All they care is about sending the message, and how many people they can fool on the way.
Amazon has several other shows that are getting way better ratings. It’s a numbers game end of the day. If this sticks out like a sore thumb in this respect, it’ll absolutely be on the chopping block. They’ve cut better shows in the past. Only thing that may prolong this if ratings don’t improve is ego and stubbornness. Time will tell.
This show is awful not because of the diversity stuff (and people need to stop saying that, it comes across as racist) first and foremost, it’s awful because of the sheer catastrophic ignoring of the lore!! The showrunners actually talked about showing the, “book that Tolkien never wrote” The sheer colossal arrogance of that statement is just mind blowing! These guys treated Tolkien like it was just another piece of “IP”. Unlike say Marvel which is the product of hundreds of writers and artists over the year. JRRT’s universe is the brainchild of a single creator who spent 50 years creating a world with meticulous detail. You can’t just put your own stupid effing spin on it. This body of work is so beloved by its readers because of the sheer detail and depth and richness that Tolkien put into it. These guys stepped in and said, “F all of that, we are going to put our own spin.” They forgot the first rule of adaptation, “Adapt don’t create” . Every single catastrophic flaw of the show stems from this arrogance. Compressed time line because “we can’t have characters dying off while others live on” Ummm! The immortality of the elves vs. the mortality of men is one of the most critical and central themes in all of JRRT’s writing. It is literally the reason why Sauron is able to seduce Pharazon and have him attack Aman. Leading to the destruction of Numenor. How the fuck will they explain the destruction of Numenor now which is probably a major season 4 0r 5 event? I don’t know! They will just make some crap up. I.e. not Tolkien’s story. Another one, “you can’t have Tolkien without hobbits” Ummm! No. Bilbo, Frodo and Sam were so celebrated because they were the first hobbits ever to shake the counsel of the wise. It’s literally a major point in the Fellowship of the Rings. The vast, vast, vast majority of Tolkien’s legendarium has no hobbits!! By introducing this whole Harfoot bullshit they are literally undermining the contribution of Bilbo, Frodo and Sam. Because House of the Dragon looks up to its' lore, and Rings of Power can only look down at its' own navel while believing they are better than the lore. Rings of Power can only sink. honestly the Rings of power feel like someone took all the good sayings from the book and gave them to these characters. Its nothing more this here is a shiny nod to the books. They could cut half the stories and focus on one or two characters instead of jumping from one mini story which change the lore so much that... I think Rings of Power fundamentally struggled with being its own thing. Like the Hobbit trilogy, it relies too much on nostalgia for the LOTR trilogy (cheesy callbacks and references to lines and characters). One of the big issues (besides the clunky dialogue and odd character choices) is the lack of tension. Season 1 had the “guess who Sauron is” as the main interesting thing that kept people talking about the show. Everything else felt secondary. In season 2, half the cast knows that Sauron is up to something or doesn’t trust the rings. We know the Balrog is coming. The trailer hints that a big Orc/Elf battle will happen. Besides that, everyone else is wandering around looking for things and doing stuff. It doesn’t feel like the stakes are high. The characters in and of themselves are okay it not doing anything interesting enough to keep us interested. The story got too big before it was able to manage multiple storylines. They also struggle with appealing to new audiences and old fans. They make lore and story changes (which understandably happen in adaptations, but they need to be just as good or better), which confuses and frustrates fans of the books (who are told “this isn’t for you” so they stop watching). But the story makes references to things, expecting you to be familiar with the books/movies. They did have some unique and interesting ideas, but the actors definitely have talent, but the overall story and writing doesn’t draw in new fans nor does it keep old fans interested.
The fact that they brought all the main actors in and told them that they were going to have to prepare for their lives to change for good with fame and adoration 😅😅😅
As to the “bad shows get axed “ argument, I would counter with ‘Firefly’ and ‘Arrested Development’. Show quality is not the only reason viewers don’t show up for a project. I think the last run of years has bred a fair amount of resentment for Netflix and the streaming model because of this.
Boil it down, and this show sucks for two main reasons: the showrunners/writers utterly fail to understand the source material at an even basic, fundamental level, and the character arcs are just awful and badly written. Which is sad, because there are some genuinely talented actors turning in the best performances they can given the source material. Imagine being cast in a billion dollar show, billed as the next GoT and having it suck this badly. What should have been career defining is likely going to be career ending for some.

Impossible to rescue this mess because they have already gone too far in the wrong direction and had most characters doing things they didn’t do. So unless they have Galadriel lying in bed and Celeborn getting out a shower and it all being a nightmare, this show is done
It really is. But the one responsible for allowing this garbage to occur is Simon Tolkien. It's complete betrayal of his Grandfather. Simon is such a greedy and wretched little punk with no morals and a weak character. All that Christopher Tolkien tried to preserve is getting destroyed by his good for nothing son.
In concur, with one exception: You forgot that galadriel is younger, and therefore allowed to be less wise and charismatic compared to the LOTR area. One might even say, it will be necessary for her to make even more mistakes to grow into the person we know. For better understanding I also recomend watching the Star Trek TNG episode "Tapestry". Having said that, I still find the series awful, one would think if you're spending 1 billion dollars, you would use more of that money for better writers.
I loved the show. Ive read the lord of the rings a few times. The hobbit a few times. Not read the other works, but ive watched ymsome good youtube videos on the law. Loved this series. Yeah, there were some moments that were a bit rushed with the context, but in the key scenes, the dialogue was amazing, the scenery was amazing, the story was amazing. I love tolkins work and i think this series did it justice

Last season sucked. This season is good. I think they really fleshed out Sauron. I am glad I gave it a shot. I think they should wrap it up rather than milk it.

While I agree with you about rings of power, poeple keep mis-framing viewer drop off rates vs overall viewership numbers. Fact is , ALL shows have a significant percentage of viewers who never finish the show. It literally statistically impossible to not have a drop off percentage of viewership among the people who start watching the show.
I think there is more to the rights that they have than we are led to believe. It seems like they have some of the rights to things but arent able to really do the work thats necessary to make a good show. I read an article that said if they use the name gandalf it would cost them a ton of money in lawsuits. Which i didn't understand but whoever put this show together essentially just wanted to remake the movies into a series with a different era and is limited to what they can do so this is what we got and its not good at all. It was never going to be good with the limitations they put on themselves, diversity and inclusion def doesnt help. This is exactly what Tolkien hated when Zimmerman tried to produce a LOTR movie back in the 1950s when Tolkien was alive. Tolkien hated it because they didn’t respect the work. They changed it without any understanding of the story Tolkien was telling. Once again, the ROP is again altering the true narrative to make it like a Marvel superhero nonsense. But worse than that, the plot is trite. They borrow ideas from Peter Jackson. PJ respected Tolkien’s works and endeavoured to make movies that remained close to the books. It was not perfect but it conveyed the story well in my opinion (I have been a Tolkien scholar since I was 13 and I am now 57.). ROP is unrecognisable as Tolkien. It is not even good fan fiction. Payne and McKay were not up to the job. They wasted Amazon’s money and they produced a mess. These two should have been fired after the first season since they are worse than mediocre writers. But Amazon kept the.m on board to waste more of Amazon shareholders money. They should be made to pay back whatever they earned because they did not earn it. Jeff Bezos. Wake up, get some good Tolkien writers on board like Tom Shippey and start again.
Rings of Power feels like a stage play put on camera. The whole show feels like an off broadway production which is fine if it was structured that way, but mass audiences for TV/ Film, I think, require a more broader appeal. This show feels designed for a specific audience and not a mass audience.
We’ve updated the series for a modern audience, so now all the mythological races are played by people of all real-world races. Horses are too old-fashioned; they’ll be driving cars instead. We’ll give them more stylish haircuts, none of those ridiculous long hairstyles-nobody wears that anymore. We’ll humanize the elves a bit by removing their pointy ears, so everyone can relate to them. Who needs magic in the 21st century anyway? They’ll now live in a city and work in a factory, so the average person and the working class won’t feel left out. Done! The perfect fantasy story for a modern audience
My husband is trying to watch season 2 episode 1 already for a week and he starts it and then he looses interest. He said yesterday, he has to concetrate this time 😂, and he still didn’t manage. He just cannont accept this is soo bad.

Well... They just said this morning that season 3 has been greenlit. So, unfortunate timing on the video here, but I'm not sure if it's going to be the case.
The writers should be indeed fired, the show can be wrapped up in season three but it must be done with NEW writers at the helm, people who fully understand Tolken's world, just as Peter Jackson did. As the current show is lost and much too woke for me. In cutting short to just three season with suitable writers Amazon can not only save face but save some money. Making a season four and five is just a waste of time and money as the focus should be on the main characters which are the rings themselves and everything linked to them, till the initial fall of Sauron. If you have people who understand the lore then 10 episodes on season three would be more than enough to get it back on track cut the losses and cutback the characters that made the viewers cringe and drop the series in the first place.
i struggled to watch and finish the 1st season.....with season 2 i have not even renewed my amazon subscription as i have no intention of watching season 2 at all or any other season they come out with. Hearing the rumours it will go for 5 seasons are absolutely cringe worthy and shows that if true amazon has less brains then even disney who after one absolutely horrendous season of the acolyte and despite people claiming it was toxic fans being the reason no one watched it (no it was a s...t story characters etc) they still canned it after one season. If amazon had any sense they would do the same totally cut of this and delete it from the app entirely. Then perhaps start again with firstly writers who know and respect the source material then build a great story and dialogue then source actors who actually know what they are doing.....the woman playing galadriel for instance although the source of her dialogue is horrible i do feel she would struggle to act her way out of a toilet even with an epic script hire someone better!! My mother could have watched this. She's in her 70s and loved the books for over 50 years. However, she would never watch THIS version, because it's nothing more than trendy fan fiction, and has nothing to do with the story. Maybe instead of going after woke influencers, media critics and genZ'ers they should have created a mateur and balanced TV show which people would actually want to talk about and recommend. Pensioners read TLOTR. Teenagers read TLOTR. It's appealing to all ages. Why make a show that directly targets 15-35 year olds, forgetting the main bulk of the actual fanbase?

Every scene of Galadriel looks cringe because the actress is so IRL. They need to cast better. They should learn a few tricks from the casting of Andy Serkis as Gollum. Great actor not just act but also influence the director.
Here's a tip for the backers of this kind of crap. Read the script. If there is no script there's no amount of stunning visuals that's going to make up for it. I guess the success of the first Avatar movie is a contradiction to this, but I think that was the exception not the rule.

The bad writing is like a plague in tv shows
What is impressive is the huge lack of knowledge the writers have about the characters. I would forgive it if they at least wrote them accordingly with Peter Jackson's trilogy (They were perfectly written for movies that had to tell such a huge story lore wise.) Yet they simply ruin important characters that have a huge legacy. Galadriel is one of the eldest Elves in the whole story, instead she is written like a 20 yo college girl. Elrond who is from a great line of Elves and is known for his wisdom is written as a sceptic antagonistic dude that shouldn't have a thing to say to Galadriel. Sauron an angelic being of great might is simply killed by an orc in the most simplistic and pathetic way. Isildur who is known as a great warrior is reduced to some child that knows nothing of the world. It is frustrating. Never would Galadriel rush recklessly into anything, never would she ignore Elrond's concerns. Never would prime Sauron get outsmarted by an orc, nor would he ever need to be crowned/accepted by orcs. His might alone would grant him such an influence over the mind of these lesser beings. The show is written by people who are trying to transpose todays society into a magnificent story. Galadriel is the 20 yo woman, that needs to free herself from the shackles of the patriarchy and experiment the world by her rules. Elrond is the lesser knowledgeable male, that has no say in what is right or wrong. Sauron is the dumb and evil being that needs a powerful woman at his side to achieve his goal. It needs to stop...
The PJ films significantly degrade almost every character. Literally, most characters are turned into caricatures. And often his 'characters' act or behave in a manner completely opposite to their book counterparts.

It's not just bad writing...they are actively taking the piss out of Tolkien's work and the fan base. That penny dropped for me when Cirdan made his appearance. In the books he was only mentioned briefly, but what was highlighted so well is the fact he was the only bearded elf in Middle Earth, and he was the oldest. The beard added so much mystique and legend to Cirdan that it sticks with the reader. In that first scene I thought YES! They've finally got something right. Second scene, they show him shaving the beard off.
Why? Why do that? The only reason could be a deliberate attempt to trash the source material and sit back saying "well what are you going to do about it?"

Amazon has several other shows that are getting way better ratings. It’s a numbers game end of the day. If this sticks out like a sore thumb in this respect, it’ll absolutely be on the chopping block. They’ve cut better shows in the past. Only thing that may prolong this if ratings don’t improve is ego and stubbornness. Time will tell.

This show is awful not because of the diversity stuff (and people need to stop saying that, it comes across as racist) first and foremost, it’s awful because of the sheer catastrophic ignoring of the lore!!
The showrunners actually talked about showing the, “book that Tolkien never wrote” The sheer colossal arrogance of that statement is just mind blowing! These guys treated Tolkien like it was just another piece of “IP”. Unlike say Marvel which is the product of hundreds of writers and artists over the year. JRRT’s universe is the brainchild of a single creator who spent 50 years creating a world with meticulous detail. You can’t just put your own stupid effing spin on it. This body of work is so beloved by its readers because of the sheer detail and depth and richness that Tolkien put into it. These guys stepped in and said, “F all of that, we are going to put our own spin.” They forgot the first rule of adaptation, “Adapt don’t create” .
Every single catastrophic flaw of the show stems from this arrogance. Compressed time line because “we can’t have characters dying off while others live on” Ummm! The immortality of the elves vs. the mortality of men is one of the most critical and central themes in all of JRRT’s writing. It is literally the reason why Sauron is able to seduce Pharazon and have him attack Aman. Leading to the destruction of Numenor. How the fuck will they explain the destruction of Numenor now which is probably a major season 4 0r 5 event? I don’t know! They will just make some crap up. I.e. not Tolkien’s story. Another one, “you can’t have Tolkien without hobbits” Ummm! No. Bilbo, Frodo and Sam were so celebrated because they were the first hobbits ever to shake the counsel of the wise. It’s literally a major point in the Fellowship of the Rings. The vast, vast, vast majority of Tolkien’s legendarium has no hobbits!! By introducing this whole Harfoot bullshit they are literally undermining the contribution of Bilbo, Frodo and Sam.

every place in rings of power looks same because of diversity. what i went for was to see the world of Tolkien. seeing eveything looking bland is just mood killer from the start and as they say for modern times it's big red flag from the start. everything that follows this will just get worse. had they write same story and characters and places but remove everything from lotr there wouldn't be this massive backlash. more people would probably just stick and watch it then forget. if i watch japanese things i expect to watch japanese people and if i watch african things i expect it to be african people. imagine seeing asians and european people in wakanda for the sake of diversity. these very same people supporting rop will lose their mind. so glad japan are canceling on ubisoft assassin's creed shadows.

Because House of the Dragon looks up to its' lore, and Rings of Power can only look down at its' own navel while believing they are better than the lore. Rings of Power can only sink. honestly the Rings of power feel like someone took all the good sayings from the book and gave them to these characters. Its nothing more this here is a shiny nod to the books. They could cut half the stories and focus on one or two characters instead of jumping from one mini story which change the lore so much that... I mean look what they fucking did to Tom Bombadil, he is not where he should be at this time, and he was never a Wizard, or Wizard Trainer.......

I think Rings of Power fundamentally struggled with being its own thing. Like the Hobbit trilogy, it relies too much on nostalgia for the LOTR trilogy (cheesy callbacks and references to lines and characters).
One of the big issues (besides the clunky dialogue and odd character choices) is the lack of tension. Season 1 had the “guess who Sauron is” as the main interesting thing that kept people talking about the show. Everything else felt secondary. In season 2, half the cast knows that Sauron is up to something or doesn’t trust the rings. We know the Balrog is coming. The trailer hints that a big Orc/Elf battle will happen. Besides that, everyone else is wandering around looking for things and doing stuff. It doesn’t feel like the stakes are high. The characters in and of themselves are okay it not doing anything interesting enough to keep us interested. The story got too big before it was able to manage multiple storylines.
They also struggle with appealing to new audiences and old fans. They make lore and story changes (which understandably happen in adaptations, but they need to be just as good or better), which confuses and frustrates fans of the books (who are told “this isn’t for you” so they stop watching). But the story makes references to things, expecting you to be familiar with the books/movies.
They did have some unique and interesting ideas, but the actors definitely have talent, but the overall story and writing doesn’t draw in new fans nor does it keep old fans interested.
I fully support if they continue the series. Let Amazon burn more money
The fact that they brought all the main actors in and told them that they were going to have to prepare for their lives to change for good with fame and adoration 😅😅😅

As to the “bad shows get axed “ argument, I would counter with ‘Firefly’ and ‘Arrested Development’. Show quality is not the only reason viewers don’t show up for a project. I think the last run of years has bred a fair amount of resentment for Netflix and the streaming model because of this.
Creativity and entertainment are dead. This incessant, desperate need for everything to cater to such a tiny % of the population is insane.

Boil it down, and this show sucks for two main reasons: the showrunners/writers utterly fail to understand the source material at an even basic, fundamental level, and the character arcs are just awful and badly written. Which is sad, because there are some genuinely talented actors turning in the best performances they can given the source material. Imagine being cast in a billion dollar show, billed as the next GoT and having it suck this badly. What should have been career defining is likely going to be career ending for some.
Support independent creators who take dramatic structure, character arcs, thematic underpinnings, world-building, and so much more seriously.

It will be canceled because Galadrielle is beginning to look a somewhat alcohol-puffy in the face, pushing the boundaries of inclusion like a true rebellious social innovator.
Impossible to rescue this mess because they have already gone too far in the wrong direction and had most characters doing things they didn’t do. So unless they have Galadriel lying in bed and Celeborn getting out a shower and it all being a nightmare, this show is done

In concur, with one exception: You forgot that galadriel is younger, and therefore allowed to be less wise and charismatic compared to the LOTR area. One might even say, it will be necessary for her to make even more mistakes to grow into the person we know. For better understanding I also recomend watching the Star Trek TNG episode "Tapestry".
Having said that, I still find the series awful, one would think if you're spending 1 billion dollars, you would use more of that money for better writers.
I loved the show. Ive read the lord of the rings a few times. The hobbit a few times. Not read the other works, but ive watched ymsome good youtube videos on the law. Loved this series. Yeah, there were some moments that were a bit rushed with the context, but in the key scenes, the dialogue was amazing, the scenery was amazing, the story was amazing. I love tolkins work and i think this series did it justice

Fact is , ALL shows have a significant percentage of viewers who never finish the show. It literally statistically impossible to not have a drop off percentage of viewership among the people who start watching the show.

The show has many commendable things (the music, the sets, the practical effects, etc.). Sadly, the writing isn't one of them.

This is exactly what Tolkien hated when Zimmerman tried to produce a LOTR movie back in the 1950s when Tolkien was alive. Tolkien hated it because they didn’t respect the work. They changed it without any understanding of the story Tolkien was telling. Once again, the ROP is again altering the true narrative to make it like a Marvel superhero nonsense. But worse than that, the plot is trite. They borrow ideas from Peter Jackson. PJ respected Tolkien’s works and endeavoured to make movies that remained close to the books. It was not perfect but it conveyed the story well in my opinion (I have been a Tolkien scholar since I was 13 and I am now 57.). ROP is unrecognisable as Tolkien. It is not even good fan fiction. Payne and McKay were not up to the job. They wasted Amazon’s money and they produced a mess. These two should have been fired after the first season since they are worse than mediocre writers. But Amazon kept the.m on board to waste more of Amazon shareholders money. They should be made to pay back whatever they earned because they did not earn it. Jeff Bezos. Wake up, get some good Tolkien writers on board like Tom Shippey and start again.
Rings of Power feels like a stage play put on camera. The whole show feels like an off broadway production which is fine if it was structured that way, but mass audiences for TV/ Film, I think, require a more broader appeal. This show feels designed for a specific audience and not a mass audience.

We’ve updated the series for a modern audience, so now all the mythological races are played by people of all real-world races. Horses are too old-fashioned; they’ll be driving cars instead. We’ll give them more stylish haircuts, none of those ridiculous long hairstyles-nobody wears that anymore. We’ll humanize the elves a bit by removing their pointy ears, so everyone can relate to them. Who needs magic in the 21st century anyway? They’ll now live in a city and work in a factory, so the average person and the working class won’t feel left out.

It won’t get cancelled. That would be too much like admitting they failed. They would rather burn money.
The writers should be indeed fired, the show can be wrapped up in season three but it must be done with NEW writers at the helm, people who fully understand Tolken's world, just as Peter Jackson did. As the current show is lost and much too woke for me. In cutting short to just three season with suitable writers Amazon can not only save face but save some money.
Making a season four and five is just a waste of time and money as the focus should be on the main characters which are the rings themselves and everything linked to them, till the initial fall of Sauron.
If you have people who understand the lore then 10 episodes on season three would be more than enough to get it back on track cut the losses and cutback the characters that made the viewers cringe and drop the series in the first place.
As a hardcore Tolkien fan I was one of the 37% who didn't finish Season1.

i struggled to watch and finish the 1st season.....with season 2 i have not even renewed my amazon subscription as i have no intention of watching season 2 at all or any other season they come out with. Hearing the rumours it will go for 5 seasons are absolutely cringe worthy and shows that if true amazon has less brains then even disney who after one absolutely horrendous season of the acolyte and despite people claiming it was toxic fans being the reason no one watched it (no it was a s...t story characters etc) they still canned it after one season. If amazon had any sense they would do the same totally cut of this and delete it from the app entirely. Then perhaps start again with firstly writers who know and respect the source material then build a great story and dialogue then source actors who actually know what they are doing.....the woman playing galadriel for instance although the source of her dialogue is horrible i do feel she would struggle to act her way out of a toilet even with an epic script hire someone better!! (shame cate blanchett couldnt go back to the role.....or cud she?). Cancel it amazon really your destroying tolkiens world so much!!!

Because it's devoid of nearly every storytelling basic. To list six: dramatic structure, character arcs, thematic underpinnings, cinematic (and literary) techniques, color palettes, and world-building that's relevant to the storytelling.

My mother could have watched this. She's in her 70s and loved the books for over 50 years.
However, she would never watch THIS version, because it's nothing more than trendy fan fiction, and has nothing to do with the story.
Maybe instead of going after woke influencers, media critics and genZ'ers they should have created a mateur and balanced TV show which people would actually want to talk about and recommend.
Pensioners read TLOTR. Teenagers read TLOTR.
It's appealing to all ages.

Every scene of Galadriel looks cringe because the actress is so IRL. They need to cast better. They should learn a few tricks from the casting of Andy Serkis as Gollum. Great actor not just act but also influence the director.

Here's a tip for the backers of this kind of crap. Read the script. If there is no script there's no amount of stunning visuals that's going to make up for it. I guess the success of the first Avatar movie is a contradiction to this, but I think that was the exception not the rule.
There will likely be a 3rd Season because Amazon is high on the fumes of the Sunk Costs Fallacy. They paid $250 million for the rights and can't bear the thought of throwing that bad money down the drain.
