Me too...
I remember Nels and his brother on drums rehearsing contemporary music around 1970 in the West LA area at a rehearsal studio. When I watched this I think about the commitment to this path. Thelonious Monk said if it takes 35 years to find your own voice in music it will be worth. He's now like the Cecil Taylor of guitar. Well done Nels!
Damn T monk!! I got started on guitar at 40..so 75!!! I'am in!!
If only all jazz was like that! With punk energy and amazing guitar sound. Also TURN UP THE BASS guys, it's 2021.
Tom Rainey sounding absolutely incredible in this timbral-centric music on a snare, bass drum, and single ride cymbal
the bar is right about here, cats
Tom Rainy is absolutely brilliant.....and I do NOT throw that word around
yeppings!
Amazing performance! It's like they tried to give him a hi-hat and he said, "No! Just gonna wiggle my left leg like this." :-)
Agreed
yep
I love how they manage to improvise all the 2nds, minor 2nds, all kinds of augmented intervals and occasionally a good old minor 7 run to ground us and ....... it all makes musical sense! These are my favorite two avant-jazz guitarists and it has been a thrill to see them collaborate.
@Val arag TITLE AND DESCRIPTION. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
that ghost hi hat is waking up in someone's basement! Love this drummer
Awesome. That dude gets an amazing amount of expression out of that minimalist drumkit. And Nels is , as always, pushing it to the edge. As the skateboarders say,"No falls, no balls." He is my favorite living guitarist.
Hey. Why do you spell your name wrong?🤠
Exceptional. Four of the very best players ever, in a remarkable collaboration. Thank you very much Tom, Scott, Julian, and Nels.
Val arag CALLED IT IS GOOGLE !INFORMATION FIND WANT YOU! IT TRY!
This is absolutely fantastic guitar playing and a great ensemble.
Lage on the tele and Cline on the JM the sounds just compliment each other so well.
I was listening to this and thought: "this reminds me a lot of John McLaughlin's album Extrapolation", one of my favorite jazz albums. Then, at 22:15 Nels Cline mentions that same exact album and says that is also one of his favorite records. I guess the influence of that recordings manifests very clearly in theirs performance, which I love by the way. Nels Cline and Julian Lage are amazing guitarists.
Love these tunes so much.
Amazing!!! Thanks guys!!! 👀👍❤️
Truly exceptional musicianship all around. Nels is easily one of my very favorite guitarists. So original and unexpected. That drummer is insane. So much breadth and range with such a basic kit.
So good! Big thanks for sharing.
Just stunning, pure music with no distractions.
"You gonna have to live with, er, your humanness." 21:17. This is a lovely way of thinking, a lovely approach to live in general and to work in particular. Encouraging and inspiring. Thank you so much for uploading.
Listen, watch and learn kids. These are the MASTERS.
Crazy what one guy can do with 2 drums and a cymbal. Add to that what the other three can do with their 16 strings, and it sums up to a collectively amazing quartet. Thanks for keeping it weird!
add 4 fully functioning human brains and the permutations arise eternal
You guys rock! Jazz rules!
after several listens over 6 weeks+, i've concluded every facet of this KILLS!
The most amazing thing is that Nels is still in tune.
My head needed this right now.
🧠🌌♾
LOVE IT!!!!!
The audacity of these guys! AMAZING!
Really glad to see these guys play in the studio. The album is great. I hope these four guys keep thinking together for awhile. They work very well as a quartet.
So many magical moments!
Sizzling guitars and i need to put down the pen and listen for my notes to this again undeterred from distraction....tough beauutiful crazed..
Forever fan grateful for you all using your talents to this summit
Spectacular band. Best album of 2018 for me so far
Coming to my town... but it’s 21 + and I’m 18... Julian and Nels are my heroes RIP
Amazing!!
Julian Lage is an amazing guitarist as well. Love the album of guitar duets Room he and Nels did a few years back. Now I think I need to get the one featuring this band: Currents, Constellations. A lot of this music calls Ornette Coleman to mind. Edit: and a lot of it doesn't.
Julian is pretty wide-ranging these days, bluegrass to blues to jazz to whatever this is. Authentic and having fun in every one, Inspirational. Nels plays nice, unusual "composer" guitar. I like the sounds he comes up with outside the box.
If it's completely ridiculous and un-listenable then it's Jazz. That was my early introduction.
@@Jeff-jg7jh Then go listen to baroque music snowflake
Rivermouth was awesome! Whole performance was fantastic
Super 😎 cool Now this is the type of guitar oriented jazz/fusion or whatever you want to call it That I like No keyboard to muddy up the guitar tones Dug it VERY much Good going guy's My pleasure all the way and I'm pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to guitar and improv Again awesome guy's 😁
awesomeness in insane amounts
I came here from Fell on Black Days (Soundgarden) and WOW Julian Lage is such a guitarist. He makes me happy!
They're playing at a house concert at Marsh Gibbon Farm near New Hope, PA on July 8. Can't wait to see them.
FANTASTIC!!!
AMAZING!
that's sooo beautiful

I find this very interesting because its vital and interesting to my musical tastes...gonna show this to my band....thanks for the banter and the sounds....via con dios from acid tong
This is LIT fam.
Wow, they're really good...
3 first song were entertaining but last one was absolutely beautiful
really nice
How have I not seen this before? This shit is lit as af.
Damn, Nels is a boss during that solo in " Imperfect 10"
Fun and fashion all rolled into one! Gimme dat spliff, por favor.
Hell yeah!
head explodes. grinning ear to ear. five minutes in.
My first impression: Wait, what just happened? Jazz guys under the influence of Fred Frith, R.I.O., The Muffins... Love it!
Phenomenal

super!!!
Boise, 2/12/19 Visual Arts Collective. BAM!
parfait
I’m getting a Mahavishnu orchestra feel from the first song
These sounds are so palatable...
Yeah man.
Ufff. Groovin
That last track brought my hairs up
Incredible players and band. Nels Cline awesome as usual but Tom Rainey sweet lord !!!
he does not fit the joke about a band with 3 musicians and a drummer.....
Right?!? Rainey on a 3 piece kit is just mind-bending. This band has changed my perception of what jazz can be.
I see a ZT Lunch Box amp! Nice! And I love minimal drum kits. This is about as minimal as it gets. Actually this is such a great example of how a band can sound great without BLASTING thru gigantic amps at maximum volume.
Well this is fucking awesome.
Brutal°
Jim Campilongo live is great too. 👍👍👍👍
Wonderful. Shame you're not playing some more UK gigs. Liverpool's a bit far.
fazzzzinatin!
COME TO CHILE
Bliss👍🌞🎶
superlative
It's like rock on purpose. Hard jazz. Razz.
Anyone know what amps Nels is playing through?
AFTER THIS I CAN THROW OUT THE JAY-Z MUSIC LOL ,NOW ON A SERIOUS NOTE THIS WAS A MUCH NEEDED LISTEN TO.THANKS PASTE MAGAZINE .

Is there a way to download good quality audio of these tracks? I need them so much!
Yeah, buy the album! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currents,_Constellations
holly shit *.* any tabs?? hahah
What the hell are these tiny amps and how can they sound so good ?
Hello Nels Cline Band, I'm Nels Cline Band.
James blood Ulmer is smiling 😃
Да, неплохо!
A lot of epiphany moments in here, I just can't believe it. I'm totally buying this, and I rarely buy any music nowadays (shame on me).
Well this is sumthin else
Wow, this is really good. Then at 17:05 it got even better! So enjoyable on many head and sonic levels.
I play around 28 different instruments and don't bother to play with others because they are stuck in a rut of non creativity. I really, but really don't fit in with most musicians and the music they play. I'm wasting away, playing music all day long every day all alone in this my second complete studio. But I'd play with these guys anyday. I hear creativity in their music.
woah, easier here, edge-lord
Swell life.
Are there like a half dozen people there or something?
I tried to listen to that transition at 15:42 on drugs and I think I've forgotten how to make music.
what kind if bass drum?
I'm pretty sure it's a floor tom
Even during the first song I'm pretty sure I heard a few brains in the room break and then ooze out onto the floor through their ears.
Bloody groovy !!
First track giving me King Crimson vibes
Good old Fripp would fit right in
