A few years back I was hurt at work, my family kept eating in the meantime with food preps.
There is a reason for pantries.
Been stocking up on a fixed income. Doing 15.00 a month. Got some good tip from you. Thanks so much. Your Awesome 😊
I am 75 and fallen so many times that I have lost count. Started prepping about 5 years ago for long term. After each time I fell and when other things happened which kept me from going anywhere, my preps saved me. I live alone and did not have anyone to help me and go to the store for me. I mostly used Amazon all of these last 5 years. We now have stores, such as Walmart, where you can order on line and just pick it up. How wonderful that has been! ALL THAT I AM REALLY TRYING TO SAY IS TO PREP! IT IS NOT HOARDING BECAUSE IF MY NEIGHBORS OR FAMILY NEED SOMETHING, THEY CAN COME GET IT! WE WILL ALL HAVE TO HELP EACH OTHER OUT ONE OF THESE DAYS IN ORDER TO SURVIVE! ☮️❤️💥🌈🌎😇😇😇😇😇😇😇🦁🦁🐯🦄🇺🇸
you could have left the country, a lot of good locations around the world.
I'm surprised not too many preppers are mentioning rolled oats. They can be prepared overnight with just water and you can add anything to it; you can add it to meats to make meatloaf or meatballs, it can be ground into flour and is very healthy and super cheap
Hamburger/burger dog substitute
1 cup dry oatmeal
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon better than bouillon vegetable broth
Mix it together let sit while the frying pan heats up. Then i fry it in a cast iron pan because you need less oil. But fry it in meat grease if you want. Price of beef is heading to 6.00 a pound in some locations. 1 cup oatmeal mixture will make 4 small "burgers" or 2 big ones they keep well, freeze well and reheat easy. But if shtf you may have to try fried oatmeal. I like it for everyday eating so oatmeal is in my pantry. Quick or regular it doesn't really matter but quick is a little softer texture but both work. Regular just needs to rest a little longer before frying.
Dress a bun just like you do for a burger. Hope this helps someone.
I think people have these things but you can't remember mention everything. Lol
I have like 25 lbs of oats. At least. Probably more.
May add yogurt to stay overnight / through work; and it's ready to eat.
Makes a nice snack with fresh fruit. Then aren't hungry and grumpy, making bad choices at grocery... fast food place 😵
@@cro2510 I used to add yogurt to granola. It tasted fine, but I was hungry again in no time.

I’ve been a prep her for a few years now I live in Ohio when everything got shut down people started freaking out and the grocery store and panic buying as for me and my husband we did not need to go to the grocery store because we had everything we needed at home and we were prepared for that sort of situation and we’re still prepared for what’s to come in November but we’re still adding on so from personal experience it’s good to stock up and the best part is that the people why called me crazy are not calling me crazy anymore
I'm Glad your husband is Al in interested of being a road block
I know it's hot now
But know one is thinking about winter
Right now is a good time to get sokes leggings and underwear and sewing kit to repair.
But now they tell you youre lying when you tell them that they laughed at you and called you nuts for suggesting to stock up food/water back in january/february (or earlier since its always wise to keep food at least for 2-4 weeks). They "forgot" to remember that. Sadly most of the ones stocking up food because of Covid just eat it all and forget why they did panic buys in the first place. Sometimes i really doubt the capability of people for logic and reasoning. Its like a sentence i read in a novel once: "I know what i know dont confuse me with facts".
I’ve been a Prepper for 4 years now and my focus was on quality gear that’ll hold up in harsh conditions. I’ve been stocking up on food water hygiene and medical for the last year and a half. Funny to see people dropping 50 bucks at fast food restaurants, for 50 dollars I can get 4 big bags of canned goods pancake mix and things of that nature. Word to the wise of getting canned vegetables try and get the sodium reduced ones easier to drink the liquid. Canned meats with a high fat content (corned beef) lasts a long time. Thanks
Corned beef is my friggin JAM!
@@gloriavonvoid3026 What other canned meats besides corned beef would you recommend? Any canned based meats?

Potato flakes. I have purchased a few boxes and repackaged them in mason jars which I vacuum sealed.
Does it work well to vacuum seal those I jars? I was wondering what the dust level was when doing this. I read not to try it with flour, wasn't sure about potato flakes. :)
@@diane8038 Here is a great video that shows how to vacuum seal flour without it getting into your Food Saver machine. I have tried it (you can decide how much to seal at one time) and as soon as the rest of my flour comes to room temp, I'll divide it. I have some 10 c., some 3 c., and some 1 c. portions. CANNED FRUIT! Canned peaches or pears. U can buy a can of Great Value Fruit Cocktail for .96 cents. Also get dog, cat & pet bird food!
Mark Edward's, Do you happen to know what the shelf life is on canned fruits? I'm thinking about 5 years if they're acidic?
Redeemed by Grace September 10, 2022 is the expiration date on the Great Value Fruit Cocktail that I purchased last week. So, it appears canned fruit has a two year shelf life.
Redeemed by Grace yes. If not longer. Pineapple is one that tends to get a metal taste if too long past the best by date
Cricket Girl Thanks 4 the info. I’ll eat the pineapple first! The Great Value fruit cocktail in light or heavy syrup is really good for .96 cents! They have peaches, pairs, grapes & a few cherries.
Cheaper & taste better if u get them at Aldi
For things that are hard to find in the grocery stores check out the drug stores and dollar stores. My local Dollar Trees all have the Hormel Chicken Tamales and Knorr products in stock.
Yes, I've seen the tamales at a few dollar trees.
Mrs.Rushy are the tamales good?
@@juneweimar1064I've only had the chicken ones and they're ok. Nothing I'd rave about.
Mrs.Rushy ok, thanks for your reply. 😊
I went to Dollar Tree tonight & found one lone can of tamales...Went to two others & one didn’t have any but the next Dollar Tree has five. Tomorrow night my sister (also a preppier), is coming over & we’re going to stand around that can of tamales & try those canned tamales!!!🤣...We’re Hispanic so we know what tamales are suppose to taste like (our Mom & sisters make them homemade). Now we’re not expecting gourmet here but we’ll see if they’re “passable”...I’ll keep y’all posted!!! Oh & FYI, I found some Liquid Skin in the meds section (used for cuts, like skin super glue)...probably the same thing. 🤠
I saw some gaps in the canned pet food at petsmart today. Remember to stock up for your pets too. Make sure you have your holiday staples too.
@Rebekah HeatFan Hello 👋 I agree! I was just telling my brother to buy his holiday foods, like canned cranberry sauce Now! I don’t know if there will be fresh cranberries to buy, which is what I like....for homemade cranberry sauce. I also heard toys are going to be hard to come by, Walmart is not having Black Friday. I think it’s because they get so much from China, that they’re not going to be able to get toys this year. At least that’s what I heard. But definitely get your holiday stuff now! God Bless you and your family.🌸
Keep an eye on your local asian markets. You'll know s**t has truly hit the fan if the asian markets run out of rice
I live in LA so I hit all the ethnic markets for staples, condiments, produce, teas and natural medicine ingredients.
Great choices you showed us here! I would like to add my 2¢ - 3 days ago I noticed for the first time in Wal-Mart a can of red beans and rice. It's probably been around a while, but I just noticed it while searching for canned peas. I decided to buy one can - it's under a buck for a 15 ounce can - to see if we liked it. My boyfriend and I ate every last grain of rice - it was delicious. Of course that's my opinion. I just thought I would share my find. The brand is MARGARET HOLMES. I went back and bought 5 more cans today. I think it's a great prep. I store what I eat and eat what I store. TFS Stay safe and well 😷
Turn your peanut butter upside down for storage and then will last much longer
You want to turn it every month or so because the oils will settle to the top.
How does that work?
@@bored4127 With peanut butter like Jiff of Skippy it doesn't matter. But natural peanut butter will separate and the oil will rise to the top making it necessary to stir. Once stirred, store it in the refrigerator to keep it from separating again. But before it is opened, turn it over every couple of weeks or so to help keep the oil distributed evenly. =^..^=
I've been a prepper of sorts all of my life. When I was growing up, my mother only got paid once a month. We had to shop sales and stock up with whatever money she had leftover after bills. There were many times that we would have some of those canned goods leftover from month to month. Now that I live on the Gulf Coast and know all too well about Hurricanes - I hold true to shopping sales and stocking up as well as I can with those sales. I also learned quite well at an early age about how to make do with what I have and to try making the same old stuff in a new way. The chicken Ramen noodles make a great base for chicken noodle soup (you just need to add some chicken broth or bouillion and vegies and maybe some canned chicken.
These were all great ideas. I was thankfully raised by my Dad, who was raised by parents who lived through the great depression. Without ever realizing he was doing it, he's been prepping his whole life. One thing I found that you can get at places like Sam's Club, are large resealable containers of freeze dried foods: it will have a serving size on the back of how much water to boil, and how much food to add. Usually the containers are made with a small valve to allow air out, but not in. When I was fifteen, I was boiling water, and filling multiple freeze dried containers with water, just in case. Also, if you find dents in cans, you can often get a percentage off, and don't forget to check clearance areas for things. And try new things! Something you may think looks gross, may be something you end up enjoying; recently I was over my mother's house visiting, and I grabbed a can of sardines, she grimaced. I told her I would give her a hundred dollars to try them: she loved them! One more thing that she can eat, if things get bad. Just my humble opinion, but I hope it helps someone. Thanks for the video, and stay safe out there. God bless!
Maybe I'll give sardines a try.
@@valerier4308 If you don't like sardines try Kippers they are delicious

You are definitely right about one thing well two things you definitely want to go & stock up now you do NOT want to Panic buy Plus you do NOT want to be in the stores staring at signs saying SOLD OUT. Also he is right you do NOT have to buy all these fancy shelves I have a lot of (Rubbermaid containers) that locks up good things stay fresh nice & organizing there also I have (stackable crates) the real nice ones I only pay you $3 I used to keep all my laundry detergent inside, when they go on sale I used to stock up now I put my canned goods in there or (mason jars) but that's another thing mason jars are expensive &can be hard to find now, you do NOT need all the stuff that everybody on RUclips has now if you have the money go get it that's fine but use your kitchen cabinets under your bed pantries closets etc are good enough especially if it's cool & dark.
Hi Felicia - I actually lie awake at night fearing those empty shelves and sold out signs. It's been all too real lately. So I am doing what I can to stock up a little at a time. I just got an over the door shoe organizer and put it in my kitchen. I put things I use daily in that like napkins and paper plates and some snacks. Now I have a little more cabinet room for my canned goods and pastas. Stay safe and well 😷
An inexpensive and portable can opener is a P38 or "John Wayne" opener that can be purchased in bulk at the army surplus store, or online. I keep one right on my keychain.
I would look into red lentils if you like the taste. You dont have to water them for hours before cooking and it takes only 10mins to cook them. They have nearly as much protein as meat which is quite a bit for a plant. And they are a little bit easier on the digestion "byproducts" compared to beans. I keep quite a bit of them together with pasta (and rice) as forever food.
Do you order the red lentils in bulk? Do you have a link? Thanks.
@@americafirst9144 I dont by in bulk at all. I just buy 2-3 packages pasta/lentils and some canned veggies each every week when i do my regular shopping trip. Its just a little bit more than i eat so that i build up my stock after eating the old stuff over the last months.
But over here in Germany the situation is quite different. There are no panic buys or shortages anymore. Even at peak there was only a shortage on pasta, canned veggies and some not so important other stuff. Not to forget the shortage of toilet paper in Germany that made into some Memes. Like the joke that the Americans had a shortage of guns, the French of cheese and wine and the Germans of toilet paper.
Covid-19 is over by now (around 6,000 infected and 15 deaths due/wich Covid over the last week). Its just the government trying to induce fear in the population because its so convinient.
Heres a link with the offical numbers (in german) the media is trying to avoid showing because it doesnt fit the narrative: www.nachdenkseiten.de/?p=63898
But back to topic: For long term i bought 24x packages NRG-5 which gives me enough to in absolute emergencies and is great for bugout/get home bags or car kits. Then i have pasta, some rice, canned tuna/sausages/SPAM and mentioned red lentils that last very long (potential forever food). As for water i stored around 50l mineral water in glas bottles which should last forever too.
Short term i keep around 10l tap water in glas/steel bottles in the fridge i renew every few weeks plus the 3-4l water i keep drinking and refilling daily. And i tend to keep my little freezer full with frozen veggies and fish i catched myself (mostly already fried grinded pike in form of burger patties).
Imho only stocking up on food, water and some of the essential stuff for bugging in makes sense for most people especially in cities aside from real hardcore survivalist.
Shutting off water alone in cities creates a serious problem for most of us after only a few days due to hygiene problems (everyone has to poop sooner or later)...unless you get yourself a composting toilet which is quite expensive.
So even if i have food and water for several months long before that i get a problem with getting rid of my waste. But its good for situations like Covid where you be unable to buy food etc. but still have running water. Its also good when you get too sick to go shopping on your own as single and dont want to bother others to bring you food.

I have had one occasion where wood boring ants got into a few of my preps that were in a cardboard box and a thin plastic bag, so I plan to get some of those plastic bins with tight lids that are a little larger than a shoe box for vulnerable containers.
Check out Alaska granny on RUclips. She just put out a video about storing food in 5 gallon containers.
Love the Keystone meats
Good to know, thanks!
Savings plan yes of course but also if things get rough financially having a stock pile helps get through...happened with us this year. Inflation is reallllll. Thanks for the video and help.
Awesome prep video my friend. I hope others pay attention and follow your lead and start now.
I already got my tamales yesterday, but I like you canned cheese. Good job!!!!
I LIKE YOUR MAIN MESSEGE
They had to have people stand guard around the carts to keep people from take ing things before they could put on the shelf
these tips may help: be serendipitous. sale tables have some great buys. buy off-brand, regional or generic brands. some dented cans are okay. avoid those with bulges. mass discount stores (e.g. Big Lots, Ollie's, etc.) have many cheap stuff. and end of season have good stuff. if there's coupons involved, use them. my pantry was loaded up rather cheap!. one last thing: don't buy stuff you won't eat.
Coconut oil
This goes on my prepper Playlist! Thank you very much!
Very welcome
Wish I could get half of these products in the UK
So do I, some of those tinned meats look great 🙂 Spam I recognise though lol
Steve Day, hiya i'm in Ireland. I love the selection of canned veg they're able to get. Hope you're staying safe.
Yes cannot get canned chicken in UK 😢
@@juliebee7696 I got some in Poundland yesterday and some beef in gravy and bacon grill 😀 Try yours and see 🤗
@@glawsgal wow thanks my friend I will 👍
You need to check out "Morrision's Country style PEPPERED GRAVY MIX" I saw a video on it so I bought a 1 1/2 lb bag to try it. I was blown away. It tasted just like Hardy's gravy. Just add water, it's AWESOME. I went back and bought 12 more bags.
Will check that out thanks!
Great video! I have been buying up things as I catch a good deal. As of today, Alberson's in D/FW Texas has pouches of Starfish chicken in a variety of flavors, regularly 2.49 each on sale for 88 cents. Use by date of March, 2022. As you know, great to add to ramen or rice. 🙂 Please keep the videos coming, they are very informative, and you get your point across quickly.
Ps.
Just curious on the microwave in the bag stuff like Uncle Ben's... can you safely boil them? Would be good to avoid dirtying a pan and just eat it out of the bag.
I recently tried a can of those tamales and was pleasantly surprised! They were good. Thanks for the tip. I also tried a can of Chef boy ardee meat ravioli... not a fan but not terrible
What I have heard is that the soda companies Pepsi and Coke are going through a shortage of aluminum cans so they're downsizing on the production of additional flavors like mountain dew, Dr pepper and some fruit flavors and concentrating on their main popular regular sodas.
you cant find Libbys canned Pumpkin anywhere...🤔
We were warned last year that there would be a shortage this year because of “global warming”. Please don’t start in on me about global warming, I’m just the messenger! Found 7 cans last week and I grabbed them. They hope to have some by thanksgiving, be on the lookout.
The Knorr pasta side dish ones are great for emergency. For the rice ones, I take half of a lemon and pour it over. It’s so delicious.
Beans rice pasta and canned meats like spam and chicken tuna these are what stretches
I shop with one dish meals in mind, like casserole style. I'll use a can of chili, no beans, add a can of beans, add saltines, add a little great value knock off velveeta, it's a meal and it's got some protein.
The only can shortage I heard of is the lightweight aluminum cans used in the beverage industry. Those cans are short because of home consumption vs. bar & restaurant consumption.
And there is also a shortage of steel and tin, which are used to can most foods.
@@americafirst9144 Yes, I've seen the articles too. Here is a link to one. www.marketplace.org/2020/07/24/new-supply-chain-crisis-during-pandemic-not-enough-cans-for-food/
That's not the only reason. ussanews.com/News1/2020/08/12/states-secretly-stockpiling-food-competing-to-fill-warehouses-to-brim-ahead-of-coming-disaster/ Ice Age Farmer addresses this in a video.
Beef tamales are great. I add cheese and corn chips
Something a lot of folks don’t think about is how to cook when the power is out. If you don’t have a generator, and you need to heat anything from water to meals, how do you cook it? Cooking choices to have on hand...propane gas grills, or tanks and Coleman camping stoves. Load up on charcoal and bbq grills. Firewood and ground dug grill. Whatever you can do, you may have lots of prepfood, but do yourself a favor and have a way to cook it!
Small to medium lithium solar battery packs will allow you to use a low-wattage 200 - 500 watt rice cooker to create a hot all-in-one meal fast. And not just rice. Cut up potatoes cook super fast in stews and soups in my mini Dash units. I own some bigger Black and Decker and Oster units as well (6-8 cup ones). They are very affordable. You can also attach them to a car inverter.
In already prep but I like you channel always sound advice
God bless 🛐 you highly.
Thank you very much for your videos
I have a big tub that I found dumpster shopping. I filled it with all kinds of stuff $80 worth. I even got 2 months of t. paper
I got hooked on those tamales because of an older Iridium 242 video. I tried one can then went back and got a dozen more 😂
they are pretty good!
If you like a little spice try mixing them with a little of the La Costena pickled sliced jalapenos or La Costena chipotles in adobo sauce.
I picked up some small cans of these on clearance at Kroger to give them a whirl and loved the taste.
They were also good to season meat or beans with or as an addition to an all-in-one meal in a rice cooker. A little goes a long way.
Peanut butter is also EXCELLENT bait for Mouse Traps if you have that problem, like we do!
You can add some canned mixed veggies and canned chicken to the ramen and make a more "healthy" version of the ramen... great video! ty
Aluminum cans are in shortage according to Coca-Cola and PepsiCo. They'll no longer have a variety of sodas but the most popular ones. Tin cans are ok! 😁
Try buying ammo today.
I can find 7.62x39 but not 556
@@joelquinn2037 The best gun is the one in your hand. Get what you can.
I have plenty but none to target practice with😵
Can't get half of these things in Australia. I haven't seen freeze dried vegetables in the supermarket for years.
Coles has potatoes and peas possibly more. Saw them yesterday
@@Krankyolman Thank you. I will check out Coles. I can remember a time when we could buy lots of freeze dried veges. That was probably 30-40 yrs ago.
Take care.
The freeze dried stuff is ordered online mostly....some big box stores carry it in the camping section.
@@karenmikasko7148 Thanks Karen.
Ramon noodles have kind of wax in or on them. After awhile will clog up your gut!!! So don't rely on these. Maybe 1 or 2 times a month is okay. Love to you
Another great and informative video. Thanks!
Really good word George, never thought about the beanies an weenys tho, reminds me of the C-rats I had in the mil, thx for the vid.
Great information .. Thank you for your time
thanks, George. Great video on canned foods.
A way to extend storage of many dry goods is to freeze it for 24 to 48 hours prior to long term storage. Beans, rice, flour, noodles and so forth. This will kill any insects already in the food.
Chicken and dumpling in a can is a decent meal too also chicken in a can and ramen noodles (liquid free) with your preference of seasonings.
Love the canned whole chickens I buy a different brand ingredients chicken salt water 6bucks 3lbs
The tin can shortage is for the aluminum cans they put beverages in - beer, soda, etc.
I people need to talk about rationing also, it could come to that for many. I have. A couple years worth, but I can ration. I believe it will be lasting with the combination of inflation and shortage. You can do alot with ramen. My dad cooked with it, we were poor. Good dishes he cooked. I bought the jar GV cheese you recommend. Thank you. was trying to remember why I felt like we better start this 11 years ago. It might have been the financial situation of 2008. It wasn't this intense, but I did buy from bulk food online sites. It was only for, but 8 months ago I got concerned and added non food stuffs. If it came to being dangerous situation from desperate people I couldn't survive. I am disabled and my husband died a few months before Covid reared its ugly head. I pray and hope it doesn't get that bad.
Covid 19 brought me here.
Same and it took me to all the prepper channels!! Good information for sure!
JoeyBoots - check out @AlaskaPrepper.
Good covi now your in the right place 👍🙋
Started my life as a prepper 10 years ago. I was called crazy. Now the same people want advice.
I told someone to start stocking a few months back and they just rolled their eyes at me, I'm afraid the joke is gonna be on them
Jessica Monday yup or they’ll be asking us for help! The door closed on this ark a while back 😆
Yeah my family quit calling me crazy too now!!!😅
