That was nice to watch, it always makes us feel like we are there with you. And when you was talking about housing and pricing, and said enough of that this is about cycling, both my wife and I said in unison "no we're interested" we enjoy you discussing life over there, and love you pointing out this to the left and that to the right, it's so interesting and informative. Watching these nice long rides and listening to a human voice has been helpful in getting us through this period of lockdown and limited travel here in our little part of the UK. And for that we thank you. Plus it inspires us to get out on our bikes. Although to be fair we don't need any excuse to get out cycling, we love it.

Another nice video. My wife now uses her bike to get to work, too. Her commute is a tad bit shorter than mine, but not much (round about 5km for a single way). She's a doctor working in a hospital, so she doesn't get to sit around as much as I do (software developer, I sit around all day. You where talking about sitting around in one of your other work commute videos), but she too appreciates the extra workout even a short bike ride gives you. It can be very relaxing to just enjoy the scenery. It's not possible in a car, because you have to be aware of the traffic at all times.

Please consider a rear rack for commuting. I have one with a plastic bin roughly 5*12*15 inches that I bungee cord stuff into. Gets the stuff off your back. Love the commutes, and if you go to IKEA take your bike trailer. You'll need it
she's has mastered riding clip-less really well!! and TAMA!!! I've been there. it's super interesting! and there are a couple of secret/privet rooms with out of rotation cars. they have a nice gift shop and cafe with model kits/toycars/magazines.
Fun video! Seemed like a pretty long commute, but actually, it was only around 3 miles. Maybe it seemed long because the route was rather dull, nobodies fault. Still, it was an interesting commuter video as it showed the actual trip - nothing fancy, like stopping for food or coffee. Interesting how that part of Japan looks like it could be almost anywhere - parts of Australia, Canada, Holland, and even the U.S. - except for the long sidewalk bike lanes.

The Toyota Car Museum is very nice. You can see many cars and best of all you can visit the actual factory and watch cars being made. However you can only take pictures at the showroom. Inside the factory you’re not allowed to record video or take photos. Visiting is free, but you have to make a prior online reservation.

That commute looks awesome. For us, in Nairobi, we have no dedicated cycling lanes. Today my husband and I tested my road bike to my office, its 9km and takes 1.15 hours...might take some getting used to, buy cycling groups are advocating for cycling lanes in the city, to keep cyclists safe. I'm longing for that...

Too many distracted drivers and pedestrians especially in NYC where I'm from....I can tell you that a flashing white light in the front gets people's attention during daytime. The more visible you are the safer you will be while cycling.

please visit the Toyota museum one day (even though its off subject) . I really liked the 90s Celicas and MR2s (I bought one from Nagoya) . That was the golden age of cars for me .Now I only drive my car once a week for about 15 km to keep it fit ;-)
i like how clean the streets/cycle path are in Nagoya Toyota Motown and that the green country side is just a turn away. What is your average speed on the flats? i think the average auto traffic speed in the city is less meaning safer than other countries where speed seems to rule reducing your margin of safety. thx for posting
It's pretty amazing how quickly you can escape to the countryside from a busy road. Her average speed is usually 17-25km/hr, but hard to say with all the lights

These aren't protected at all.. Lots of businesses along the way with cars pulling in and out without checking for bikes.. Really dangerous in the evening, but thankfully most of them are still closed in the morning so it's not bad then
Hi. I love your videos... I recently bought a Road Bike and been using it for commuting to work. Is it necessary to wear a jacket while commuting? Is it for visibility? Or any other reasons?
Beautiful ride, but kind of a cloudy day. Is there a bicycle speed limit when doing urban cycling, have you heard of anyone get a citation for not just speeding but unsafe riding. I’m still not used to seeing passing on the right side.
The only guy I know who can ride a Mamachari up a hill is Onoda Sakamichi from Yowamushi Pedal. =P Whenever there's a lot of pedestrians on the sidewalks, how do you deal with it while biking on the same path? Do you wait patiently as they cross or do you shout to get their attention to have them clear a way for you? In my case, I have bells installed on all my bike so whenever I'm in such a situation, I give them a repeated warning ring but it might not work if they're wearing headphones and in such case, I just have to wait patiently for them to cross or if possible, I pick up my bike and walk around them until I get to the front of them. For some reason, I avoid doing my high pitch whistle with my mouth or even shout because I just find it embarrassing or perhaps rude to do it but that's just me.
Don't know how he does it 🤔 It's technically illegal to alert a pedestrian on a sidewalk when you want to pass since they technically always have the right of way. I might just wait or say sumimasen, or hop on the main road, or use my squeaky breaks 😅
They are only legally allowed to be used in emergencies as far as I know, not that anybody really enforces that. The whole idea of a bell goes against their whole meiwaku/harmony thing
It makes me wonder if the commuting market is underserved with options. Like a low maintenance road bike you can ride on a short, hilly commute. I guess there are flat bar options but no drop bar ones.
Two Wheel Cruise Yeah I agree it would be a bit silly on pure road bikes. Maybe do that just on a drop bar bike with hub gearing or something. I think they do Alfine with road shifters. You never see it anywhere though.
Riding on the sidewalk in Tokyo is dangerous on a road bike! Doesn't matter if there is a designated bike lane, the people walk in it. Even when the pedestrian lane is open. I commute on the main roads with traffic lights. I avoid all sidewalks and roads without traffic lights. The pedestrians and cyclists on "shopping bikes" do not follow any road rules here in Tokyo. The cars are much more safe!
Same here, ride on the road as much as possible. The road is easier to ride sometimes as everything are flowing... except the taxi here and the passenger that have the bad habit. The passenger often call the taxi wherever they want, and the taxi likes to stop on the mid of the road to pick up. Some times the taxi didn't even care about the cyclist riding along, I almost crashed with the taxi when they stop for picking up passenger a few times.
Agreed that the sidewalks are usually much more dangerous. Lots of cars will pull out right into the cycling path without stopping or checking for traffic :/
@@TwoWheelCruise isnt there a power transfer and hotspot issue? especially when you ride 100k+ But if you say so since you are have more experience in cycling, ill stick with my mtb shoes. Thanks Cruise! :)
that difference in power transfer only matters really if you're racing. I feel more comfortable overall on the longer rides with mtb shoes since I can walk around easier. I personally don't notice any hotspot problems that differ between the two. Definitely feel faster and more secure with road pedals though

As a long time bike commuter I'd strongly recommend flashing red light in the rear and white light in the front flashing or steady.

These aren't protected at all.. Lots of businesses along the way with cars pulling in and out without checking for bikes.. Really dangerous in the evening, but thankfully most of them are still closed in the morning so it's not bad then

Beautiful ride, but kind of a cloudy day. Is there a bicycle speed limit when doing urban cycling, have you heard of anyone get a citation for not just speeding but unsafe riding. I’m still not used to seeing passing on the right side.
I don't think there is a specific speed limit, but they could certainly stop you for reckless riding. Haven't seen it happen yet though

Whenever there's a lot of pedestrians on the sidewalks, how do you deal with it while biking on the same path? Do you wait patiently as they cross or do you shout to get their attention to have them clear a way for you? In my case, I have bells installed on all my bike so whenever I'm in such a situation, I give them a repeated warning ring but it might not work if they're wearing headphones and in such case, I just have to wait patiently for them to cross or if possible, I pick up my bike and walk around them until I get to the front of them. For some reason, I avoid doing my high pitch whistle with my mouth or even shout because I just find it embarrassing or perhaps rude to do it but that's just me.

It's technically illegal to alert a pedestrian on a sidewalk when you want to pass since they technically always have the right of way. I might just wait or say sumimasen, or hop on the main road, or use my squeaky breaks 😅

They are only legally allowed to be used in emergencies as far as I know, not that anybody really enforces that. The whole idea of a bell goes against their whole meiwaku/harmony thing

It makes me wonder if the commuting market is underserved with options. Like a low maintenance road bike you can ride on a short, hilly commute. I guess there are flat bar options but no drop bar ones.
There's lots of commuter bike options here. Also, you see lots of students and random people on road bikes with kick stands 😂

Riding on the sidewalk in Tokyo is dangerous on a road bike! Doesn't matter if there is a designated bike lane, the people walk in it. Even when the pedestrian lane is open. I commute on the main roads with traffic lights. I avoid all sidewalks and roads without traffic lights. The pedestrians and cyclists on "shopping bikes" do not follow any road rules here in Tokyo. The cars are much more safe!
Same here, ride on the road as much as possible. The road is easier to ride sometimes as everything are flowing... except the taxi here and the passenger that have the bad habit. The passenger often call the taxi wherever they want, and the taxi likes to stop on the mid of the road to pick up. Some times the taxi didn't even care about the cyclist riding along, I almost crashed with the taxi when they stop for picking up passenger a few times.
Agreed that the sidewalks are usually much more dangerous. Lots of cars will pull out right into the cycling path without stopping or checking for traffic :/

that difference in power transfer only matters really if you're racing. I feel more comfortable overall on the longer rides with mtb shoes since I can walk around easier. I personally don't notice any hotspot problems that differ between the two.
Definitely feel faster and more secure with road pedals though
