He's talking about the Warudorufu Q. 🙂 (Japanese doesn't have the "L" sound, and all syllables start with a consonant and end in a vowel, except some words ending in "N".)
What I like about this videos is that they teach me a lot about different synths and the guy really knows how to play the keys so you get to hear the true potential of each one
I bought mine in 1999 and it is the blue one ,like in this video with 32 notes of polyphony .Anyway to me it is a superb digital synth ,and it can sound very warm , and analog ,but if needed it can sound harsh and cold too .The synthesis engine is one of the most powerful around ,and it is also simple to program ,due to its fantastic interface . I will never sell mine.
I had to look hard to find one. In the end I was able to get a Waldorf Phoenix edition. When it arrived, it had a fault. The left output channel had some cracks and then dropped completely. The vendor as usual pretended to know nothing about this. Initially he promised to pay for the repairs. But that was all a lie. In the end I send it to Waldorf where they replaced an op amp. It cost me about 100 bucks with shipping and all and now it's like new. I will never ever sell that beast. It can do sooo much!
There is a little mistake, In single mode you can have 4 sound together ! (just hold inst1 and push inst2 then 3 and 4) in multimode you can have 16 sounds staked or layered ! Very big ! (it's better if you have the 32voice expansion option board installed)
The Q is one of my all time favorite synthesizers. There is not enough time in a 12 minute video for Ujiiesan to cover it entirely. It has a large modulation matrix and many prerouted modulation destinations so you don't have to use the matrix, modulation modifiers, note-tracking comb filters for plucked string, phasing, amd flanging effects, and wave table sequencing. The latter two were not covered here at all. It is 16 or 32 part multitimbral with no voice stealing per part.
The strings you loved, etc can be duplicated with the Korg Polysix VST. It has a setting for analog emulation which gives this same effect of individual oscillator tunings.
VST are not the same of a real synth . Even if now there are a lot of great sounding VST(i have a lot of them ), there is a huge difference programming a synth ,instead of dragging the mouse ,looking on the computer screen and... Twisting the knobs is really different and does not interfere with the creativity
When you realize how much fun it is to turn actual real life knobs, then on screen knobs are no longer a source of happiness, they are no longer happy things. :) Also important point: Sound design (at least for me) is a process of spending almost all my time internally conceptualizing feeling things out and where I want to go with it, basically looking at the keyboard/twiddling knobs as an afterthought. I find the opposite is true on the computer, where my whole sound design process is kind of sidetracked and I'm not happy with the results. There is no better feeling than simply hitting a 'store' button and 'enter' and I've never felt happy clicking anything except 'shut down'.
Great synth and great demo, Ujiie-san. But what the noise we hear sometimes? For example, when you play stack presets and at the end of video. Clipping of the signal? I notice it and in another your videos. What is it?
No, only the Q+ has the analog filters. This is the "basic" Q ;-). They where produced in different color variants. I own the older 16 voice yellow one and love it so much. The later models had more DSP power and dynamic voice allocation up to 100 if I remember correct. It's a real beast! But Katsunori Ujiie don't show all of it's features ;-) like XPhorm, drum maps, arp, sequencer, vocoder, etc. Another good demo here on youtube comes from syntezatory.prv.pl.
I'm a proud 32-voice Phoenix Edition Q. Will never ever sell. Even after 20 years, one of the best synths out there...
I can't ever understand what Katsunori says, but I always watch him because his playing speaks for itself.

Simply said : It is in the top 5 best synths ever. (will never sell my Phoenix 32 voice)
I love this guy's enthusiasm. Great demo as always.
Katsunori, the man who talks to synths!

Blimey, this synth kicks some ass! Great demo as ever!! Thank You!

Excellent, top-range synth, but the sound in some of loudest parts was really overloaded and distorted the final recording.
something in this synth remind me a certain Oberheim's sound style! great machine!

So what?? Can a vst be supported for 25 years??

Dam epic stuff please play at my funeral!
That bass synth is nasty @7:05 , love it:)

Incredible synth.

よろしかったら、私のアメーバブログにも遊びに来てくださいね。
5:05 is hilarious. I think that translates to "Ohhh baaaby." This guy really shows the versatility of a Q however...
That means: how nice... I like it I like it
どんな新しい機種でも即興で使いこなすセンスに尊敬しました〜。すごいほしくなった(o´~`o)
Waldorf Makes good sounding synths, no doubt. If they only could release a Stromberg with Daw integration, I will buy it. :D
Great man)
@cartesiaLive it could be some expensive earbuds? just saying~
A FLAC file would be fantastic, for every video of course :p
01:13
WaRdorf Q
You should compose music for Nintendo.
enjoy his enthusiasm and videos...hope he takes English lessons!
1:40 snare??
Great, he begins this demo by saying he uses it on the bus (01:10).
i had a q+ once, but sold it to a very annoying software bug, I dont remember which one though
When switching to the analogue filters it hung a lot.
Lawrence O might have been it, wow 6 years go so quickly ;)
man THIS is why I have to learn Japanese! :-)
oh dog I laughed at this comment, great ! :D
poor guy only has ear-buds, (they dont look like customs from this distance.. but maybe i guess?)
Is this the Prophet o Fife Guy?
this keyboard playing aha
do you seriously think you would find a matrix 12 and a q for the same price?
I prefer Q
Drop that synth!
Hey, I'd love to drop this synth from approximately 100 metres up. These synths are huge, heavy and cool.
Peace ✌️ out people
Very nice synth. Too much panning and LFO in this demo.
lol STOP, I'm getting sick of that joke.
I'm only slaging because I'd have no synth if it wasn't for Japan
??????
Made in Germany! :)
That one was terrible. technicians like me. Fully certified I can boast about it to everybody. Student of the year me.
fuck you imbecile
Shado Wolf ??????
