The reason esports organizations lose so much money is because they treat their players like NFL stars buying mansions for them to live in and paying them crazy salaries and giving them all these perks even though they bring in a fraction of a fraction of how much gets spent. If creators like Charlie taking the L and losing money anyway is the "future" of esports then it's a doomed industry. Much more likely, esports orgs will stop spending 10x more than they make players wont live in mansions unless they deserve it and most revenue will largely come from the team members streaming and contributing the funds as a team. Charlie thinking that streamers giving twitch revenue to the org being some crazy outlandish thing is probably exactly why he's losing so much money. You have to be braindead to have an entire team of professional gamers on payroll and NOT being using their streams as a revenue source. If that's all theirs then they can have 1/10th of the salary they're not exactly hurting for cash.

Id say the only thing that works is when games start an esports league like Overwatch league, and that barely works. Hey Charlie. I am also a guy with long hair. If you'll take my unsolicited advice, try wetting your hair a couple times a day (you can do this at the sink with your hands) or braiding it. Either is a great way of keeping it moisturized, preventing frizziness and split ends. Helps keep it soft and lustrous. Combing it out at least once a day is important too, though you can get away with wearing the same braid for a couple days. It's a good look. Congrats on finding your style. 👍👍

Absolutely crazy to see FaZe’s fall from grace. I remember 5 or 6 years back when they were really making it BIG in the esports and public space and it was insane. I was hearing about them constantly. Now I feel like I hardly hear about them ever..at all. Come to think of it, I haven’t heard much about FaZe until this video. That’s saying something. Sad.

Also just want to say I really appreciate what you and Lud are doing for eSports and hope others follow in step. It takes a lot of passion for something to take a massive loss like the two of you are but plow ahead anyways because of your love for it. Maybe teams like yours are the future of the scene since all of these other orgs are collapsing. Content creators spearheading the next generation of eSports.
The reason esports organizations lose so much money is because they treat their players like NFL stars buying mansions for them to live in and paying them crazy salaries and giving them all these perks even though they bring in a fraction of a fraction of how much gets spent. If creators like Charlie taking the L and losing money anyway is the "future" of esports then it's a doomed industry. Much more likely, esports orgs will stop spending 10x more than they make players wont live in mansions unless they deserve it and most revenue will largely come from the team members streaming and contributing the funds as a team. Charlie thinking that streamers giving twitch revenue to the org being some crazy outlandish thing is probably exactly why he's losing so much money. You have to be braindead to have an entire team of professional gamers on payroll and NOT being using their streams as a revenue source. If that's all theirs then they can have 1/10th of the salary they're not exactly hurting for cash.

These guys are way overpaid for a job that doesn't deserve that kind of pay. And that business model is doomed to fail.

Id say the only thing that works is when games start an esports league like Overwatch league, and that barely works. Dude every other person plays games all day and they don't get paid. It's really more of a hobby than a job. Gaming isn't really comparable, even if they're doing it at a higher level than normies. There's plenty very skilled people who never go esports route. It's not demanding at all and saying it is is an insult to people with real jobs. Even gaming channels put in some work by actually sitting down to edit, these guys don't even do that and then they're on camera crying they can't afford their LA 10k apartment.

I don't really keep up with esports anymore for basically all the reasons you said in this video but I remember like it was yesterday the whole faze vs optic rivalry going on and I remember classmates getting into actual arguments over which team was better. Sad to see how far they've fallen.
I only watch youtubers who are godly in games I play so I can learn techniques and get breakdowns of all the weapon/item changes every update. Not into watching twitch. I'd rather see a player upload their best game of the day and explain what they did right and wrong and how they can improve.

What if to be considered an actual e sport team, they have to host monthly tournaments to face them. Build renown by offering a prize to beat them, but it cost to enter. You basically gamble your renown as a professional gamer team.
Too bad FaZe had to go out like that, here’s hoping whatever future endeavors these guys have that they go well.

I think companies are realizing that people younger generations are becoming more and more resistance to advertisements online due to the over exposure to them from a young age

As someone who was more recently let go from FaZe it's really sad to see whats been happening with Esports Winter and all the bad stuff coming out from talents who are not being taken care of. I was a junior Designer with FaZe for a small period of time Oct 2022 - Jan 2023, there are good people in FaZe but there are problems that really need to be fixed within the managerial side it seems. Shit sucks
I remember FaZe being a kinda niche group from the old CoD days. How the hell they've become so unbelievably normie, I don't know. Its tragic

Hey Charlie. I am also a guy with long hair. If you'll take my unsolicited advice, try wetting your hair a couple times a day (you can do this at the sink with your hands) or braiding it. Either is a great way of keeping it moisturized, preventing frizziness and split ends. Helps keep it soft and lustrous. Combing it out at least once a day is important too, though you can get away with wearing the same braid for a couple days.

It's the same story of every company out there. Some outsider comes in, who has no idea how things operate, because they haven't done any work in the space... and they make decisions that sink the business. People think money and a degree trumps experience and it literally NEVER does.
I'm so interested in the Business Model of gaming organisations like Moist. Charlie seems really knowledgable about the industry, I mean he runs a gaming organisation. Would love to see like a Business deep dive into thw topic.
