  • Price the New GEN 2 Milwaukee M18 Fuel 7-1/4" Circular Saw on Amazon: amzn.to/2ACGoh6
    All Day Jobsite Saw - Milwaukee Tool introduced the new GEN 2 Milwaukee M18 Fuel 7-1/4" Circular Saw with 12.0Ah Battery, model 2732-21HD this past July and priced it at $399. The Gen 2 M18 7-1/4″ Circ Saw clearly has a larger brushless motor that provides 5,800RPM and per Milwaukee Tool, will make 750 cuts on a 2x4 per charge. In our testing, we fully believe the large 12.0Ah battery will cover a full day at work. Milwaukee boasts that this circular saw cuts up to 25% faster than 15A corded and high-voltage circular saws and we decided to test this saw against the Dewalt rear handle Flexvolt saw. Check out our RUclips video to see that!
    Right out of the box we pushed the Milwaukee Circular saw and 12.0Ah battery by cutting 1-3/4" OSB over and over. Our goal was to see how the tool faired under load and for us to see if we get any heat buildup. We ditched the stock 24 tooth carbide tipped saw blade and replaced it with Milwaukee's new coated blade. That new saw blade made a big difference in the cut quality and also the load on the saw during the deep cuts. On most saws, upgrading the blade is something we do right off the bat because we want longer battery life and a better cut.
    The feel of this saw is very similar to the Gen 1 Milwaukee circular saw but the power if very noticeable. Both saws look very similar other than the new saw having a much larger brushless motor.
    Gen 2 Tools
    New tools, like new cars, can be a speculative purchase when they first come out. Over time there can be changes to the design or corrections to flaws, but the nice part about a Gen 2 tool is that there has been a lot of testing on the Gen 1 tool. The issues that might have come up have been corrected and for the most part, there should be little risk in any flaws in most Gen 2 parts.
    Our tests might indicate how some tools live their life, but in the most part, we are extreme testing the tools. Very few people would use a battery operated circular saw to cut almost 2" of OSB over and over for 45 minutes at a time. The practical application is just not there. While our test might be a bit more extreme, the results are great. We found the saw to be very reliable under stress. The Saw is very comfortable while using it for long periods. The grip is amazing, even while buried under what looked like a mound of saw dust. But the most impressive factor to us was that the motor or battery never once gave into the torture allowing the tool to cut out. The saw just kept cutting until the battery was discharged.
    Overall
    The new Milwaukee Tool lines have been very impressive. This circular saw is right up there in the top three 7-1/4" battery operated circular saws we have ever tested. The runtime when used normally is impressive and the power, when needed under immense load, is right on par with other battery operated saws that live on the jobsite day in and day out. There is no doubt that we would recommend this saw anyone looking for a good, well priced saw that will hold up to abuse.

    *Works great **MyBest.Tools** . Little lacking in power. You just have to cut a little slower. Compare to Rockwell pretty similar experience but cheaper price tag for this one. Love the lightest. Cuts accurately too.*

    Nice to see Red continually coming up with new tools ! One thing I noticed in this video was that the Milwaukee threw the dust behind the operator and the Dewalt thru the dust right into the operator !

    I've got both saws. I bought the gen one 7 years ago. And guess what? It still runs like it was new. And I have worked it soooo hard, cutting through 2 layers of shingles plus 3/4 plywood almost everyday during the summer for cutting open ridge vents. I've dropped it off a 2 story roof twice so the gaurd doesn't operate properly which I actually prefer cuz I can just keep it up all the time. I'm left handed so I was so happy and excited to see it was a right sided blade. Then the new one came out and I went and got it. And lemme just say, even though the Dewalt may be faster, but if you lay down a 16ft 6×6 the milwaukee is just like a ox. Little slower but it doesn't bog down as much as the Dewalt. I was also supper happy the new one is also right sided. My first gen still works great but the new one does offer a bit more power. Milwaukee has outdone themselves and these two saws in my opinion are number one for power, durability and battery life. Well worth every single penny.

    I just got the 12 amp hour battery with the new table saw and I love both. I used the battery in my old blade right saw and similar to the difference I noticed when I first used the 9 amp hour battery in it, the battery ups the performance to another level. It's incredible!

    Been a blade right guy my whole life. Got into the m12 line so I picked up the Mini saw. Since then I prefer blade left all day. Went looking for a bigger cordless and got great deal on older model. Ended up returning it and getting the 6 1/2 model. I was going to get the flexvolt worm model, but didnt want to switch battery platforms. Will just wait till Milwaukee comes out with a blade left. In meantime the 6 1/2 works for my needs. That flexvolt is a beast!!

    I have the gen 1, and it was amazing in 2013. It's still a great saw, and is my go-to over my corded saws, but I expected a blade left 7 1/4 saw. My gen 1 is a bit of a battery hog, and did have it cut out on a hot (100deg) day with repetitive cuts in treated lumber. With that said, it didn't slow me down any, I went and did some framing with the material I just cut and the saw cooled enough when I went back to it. After that I cut a few boards and installed them and so on. I really had no need to cut 20 boards at a time as I had started out doing. Great tool, can't wait for the blade left!

    I bought the Gen1 saw when I bought my house 2 years ago. This is my first circular saw and bought Milwaukee because I already had the Gen2 Fuel Drill/Impact kit. It just made sense to buy the battery operated Gen1 circular saw. I am right handed and I have to be honest, I hate not seeing the blade. I always have to lean over to see my cut. When I was shopping for the saw, a customer at the store recommended me to buy the 6 1/2 saw instead of the 7 1/4 because the blade was on the other side. I didn't listen to him and thought I would get used to it. I don't :(

    • @ftlaud911
      @ftlaud911 6 лет назад +1

      I initially bough the 7 1/4" and never took it out of the box. I knew I liked blade left way more, but was willing to deal with blade right for the extra cut capacity and better blade selection. After a week of thinking about it I went back and returned it for the 6 1/2" fuel. Once I made the first cut I knew I made the right choice. I will say cutting a 45 bevel barely makes it through on 2x material. In the end though it does what I need and love seeing the blade and cut line. Being lighter and actually more powerful than the 7 1/4" is a bonus (same motor in gen1).

      FTLAUD 911 thanks for your reply. I bought the 7 1/4 for the extra cut capacity, but I now own a 10inch miter saw so I use the circular saw less often than before.

      In one part of the video when you were both cutting, it showed the dewalt cutting faster for sure. But then later on, the guy with the "car guys" shirt did the cut all by himself and you could clearly see he moved alot faster with that milwaukee saw than the other guy did when they were side by side. I have that new milwaukee and it doesn't even feel like it is cutting most of the time.

    Thanks for the review guys. Since you had a head to head test on both saws (speed and power), it might be a good idea to make a video testing their runtime too. I believe the "ideal" point for any battery powered tool is power and runtime combined. Seems like this extra power from FLEXVOLT platform (if needed) leads to runtime issues.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  6 лет назад

      But they are not the same saw? do you not care about the blade orientation?

    • @justind6039
      @justind6039 6 лет назад

      Does anybody care about runtime anymore? That is something that was considered like five years ago. I have never had an instance running any power tool where I had to stop what I was doing because of runtime. Point being, everybody in any platform has more than enough batteries to keep up. Not to mention the chargers have gotten so good you'll have a pack ready to go far before you expire one. Runtime is a non issue these days and I'm SO thankful these guys don't bore the shit out of their viewers doing pointless run time tests.

    • @mds00
      @mds00 6 лет назад +1

      Justin D I recently changed platforms from DeWalt to Milwaukee because of runtime issues.
      I work for my dad who runs a masonry company and it sucked having to carry a generator or a bag of batteries to power my rotary drill, saw, sawzall, etc. changed to Milwaukee and bought 3 x 9.0 batteries and haven't looked back.
      In case anyone was wondering, DeWalt is far more powerful when comparing the top end of both manufacturers tools, but the run-time of DeWalt is horrible.
      I have a feeling that Justin is referring to homeowners or people that always work near a power source, but for a lot of us in construction the run-time is a big deal

    Dewalt is 2400W (MWO) and the Milwaukee is 1800W (they say power of 15A corded so 15A x 120v = 1800W )... I’m glad the new Milwaukee is much improved though. The original fuel saw stalled too easily

    Blade right blade left... For safety sake whenever possible the blade should always be away from your body when cutting due to possible kick back.
    I'm left handed and have been a carpenter for 38 years now so of course you never saw blade left back in the day, I just learned to cut right handed. Just much safer having the blade away from your body. Great review and guess I'm picking this up as my Gen 1 needs to be sent in for repairs.

    I do think il have to pick one of these up. Ive got the Gen 1 and i really feel it does bog down on power at times. And often if my little Makita 6 1/2 saw is large enough to cut something its often faster.

    Can you explain how Milwaukee is able to get corded power out of 18 volts? Volts x Amps = Watts. A corded circular saw is 1800 watts. The 18 volt tool would have to pull 100 amps for that to happen.

    • @shaydenscott361

      Volts isnt everything. They just use large thirsty 18v motors to achieve the desired power.. and super thick short wires so they dont over heat. But tbh.. milwaukee might be still keeping up but i doubt theres much more future in 18v. Insteresting to see what they do next

      I have used the 9.0 just for the hell of it and really could not tell a difference. However, I only did a few cuts to compare. I did not cut all kinds of woods, hardwoods, do a test to see how many cuts I could get out of a 9.0. I just did the test for myself so I knew that I could still get great cuts if my 12.0 had to charge for some strange reason.
