As a working actor in LA, he's 100% right about "ethnically ambiguous." In fact, that's actually a category you can put on your profile on casting websites. I'm also a brown Latino, and I've been cast as Filipino, Persian, and Armenian.
I can’t speak for Persians, but Filipinos and Armenians are pretty damn ambiguous when it comes to figuring out their ethnicity. I mean, people used to think Kim Kardashian was black, and nobody knows what the Hell Bruno Mars is.
That ending about "weirdos" cemented this as one of the best monologues a host has ever given that will hopefully inspire other "weirdos" to be themselves and embrace their creativity--though hopefully not in actual "stab people then lick their blood" ways.
@Saturday Night Live I am pretty sure I wrote Batman at age 5 and a half but well done on writing the Avenger at 10 Oscar Isaac. I did not have much of a mind for film but I knew a fun story and funny antics would help smooth the way as well as an intense arty lunatic Joker and unstable Batman. Viva Oscar!!
@@thebritons in 2015 he starred in Star Wars: The Force Awakens which, although wasn't a bad movie, was the start of a trilogy that he and everyone else starring in have gone on record to say there was no direction for. He's becoming one of those actors I put on my "Favorites" list. He doesn't seem to be typecast and that's what I like to see in film and television. When they display an array of interesting characters. Great monologue, reminding me of when my first attempts at theater (?) were casting and directing my siblings in 'productions' of fairy tales in our back yard.
Totally agree, he's got that rare ability to play any character well without becoming too set in the role, he just dissapears into the person he's playing. One of the reasons I love Olivia Colman as well
The ending is my favorite part! As a teacher, I completely agree! Support the Arts. Encouraged creativity. Let kids be weirdos! Look what can happen if you do 😊
I thought he was Jewish from the UK until I read an article about him and saw his full name LOL. As Honduran/Nicaraguan it feels so good to see a Guatemalteco make it in a hard career. When you make it to the top you realize there are not many C. Americans.
That was one of the only entertaining opening monologues I have seen- good for Oscar! Short and amusing. I think this guy is very talented and kind of hot. Thank you all involved!
awww that was cute. and loved the roar the audience gave for Moon Knight as Oscar Isaac has said he put his all into it, more than any other project, and has been afraid audiences wouldn't care or be excited for such a niche character.
Absolutely loved this. Nevermind that we (my friends and I) made "ninja" home movies in the '80s, but this was just too delightful. Great way to be authentic in a SNL monologue, sir!
First monologue in a long, long time I actually liked, that wasn't also just a few minutes out of a recent standup set repurposed for a monologue. Good job man!
Stop but I love when he says his full name 💕. His performance in Moon Knight was astounding, I really hope that he gets to work even more in the MCU. He's such a precious man.
What a cutie! He is so charismatic and just is so admirable. I really only know him from axmen age of apocalypse, but he’s nailing it even as ethnically ambiguous as he may be 😂 but that’s real talk, he really could play a drunk, priest or rabbi and pull it off easily. Props.
Love Oscar! I think the first time I saw him was in the movie Drive - so good! He's been great in so many films - Ex Machina, Dune, and Inside Llewyn Davis are all favorites of mine. And he kills it in this monologue!
For those that don't know, he just starred in one of his best films, the Card Counter (director of First Reformed, writer of Taxi Driver); highly recommended.
I love Oscar Isaac and he was an excellent SNL host. I watch any movie he is in because he's an incredible actor...and seems like a genuinely good person too.
I can't help but agree with most, that he killed it in the whole episode. The more I watch and know of Oscar, the more I like Oscar. The 1st I think I saw of him, was in DRIVE, with Ryan Gosling. Pretty good movie. He Really seems to be getting his Due. Well Deserved.
I like the practical visual effects of "The Avenger". My film studies teacher would appreciate, "editing in camera", a technique pioneered in the late 19th century.

Oscar has a great combination of self confidence and not taking himself too seriously. Love him.
As someone who lacks self confidence and takes myself way too seriously I envy that about him
Same 💖
Those dual roles he played in "The Avenger" basically show he was preparing to be Moon Knight since he was 10 years old!

This is vindication for every one of us goofballs who made home movies like this. We didn't all make it, but enough of us did.
I was (and still am) the aspiring writer version of this. Between this and the Willem Dafoe monologue, I had some kind of personal epiphany.
Someone give this man ALL the awards! Now.

This guy just won me over with his skills on SNL. They wasted him in Star Wars. Bring on Moon Knight!
I've been a fan of his since 2015s "a most violent year," which also stars Jessica chastain. Two Julliard alumni killing it.
He's amazing in Operation Finale (2018) about post-WWII nazi-hunters
I never heard of this guy until marvel but I’m very interested in seeing his other work
