Oh yeah! I was 13 in 1971 and caught Bucks fever. Glad to see Dandridge getting some love, and great footage of early Kareem. Kareem had to tone it down later in his career to conserve energy, but he could operate in the open court with the best of 'em when he was younger. And Oscar just imposed his will on the opposition.
In the end, this team made Milwaukee a basketball-mad city to the present day. In many ways the whole franchise has lived in this team's shadow for 50 years. Hopefully the present-day Bucks can finally bring a championship back to the Mil. Excellent video and killer analysis of a team that was almost too great...
@Harry Engel I usually overlook the era a particular team plays in, and considering these Bucks, the decade they played in (which turned out to have the most parity of any NBA decade in terms of champions; I do think the Washington Bullets were the decade's most consistent winner, but it's too bad the franchise hasn't been heard from much from since) was just getting started. Also, they were an expansion team that did face other strong contenders such as the Knicks (already champions) and Lakers (future prolific winners & champions). Smaller league, pretty topsy-turvy era, but they really track for me. A young Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? Wow, and Oscar Robertson still had game left (the final piece for them?). Excellent supporting cast supported by great numbers and a long regular-season-winning streak and decisive playoff run; I definitely like what they did (they were no fluke either, as they ran up to 1974 and that season's finals).
@Harry Engel Oh sure, it's a factor some think about, which is totally understandable. But like you said, the time & place was out of their control, and that team took care of business. The fact that the Bucks held together as a contender until the late 1980s is something I give that franchise credit for as well. They've come back alive again in recent seasons, which I also think is nice.
@Harry Engel Due to the Bucks recent revival, I've thought a lot about this franchise lately. Yeah, that 1980s Bucks team was the real deal, it's just that if they could beat the Sixers in the playoffs, the Celtics would beat them, and vice versa. They were right there though, with three Conference Finals in the decade & 7 consecutive Central Division titles (I normally don't place too much stock in division titles for either the NBA or NHL, but I find that streak impressive). Paul Pressy at point forward, Don Nelson running the show, and a team regarded as smart and competitive. Marques Johnson, Bob Lanier (with something left to contribute), and hey, I think their logo is cute (yeah, I said that:-)!

Thanks for this breakdown. Perhaps the next step would be to analyze the 1972 WCF between the Lakers and Bucks. Los Angeles beat Milwaukee in 6 games en route to a title, but statistics (be it advanced or otherwise) suggest that this may have been the greatest series of all time in terms of matching two historically elite-level teams
People see the end result being a series win in 6 for the Lakers and see it as not very competitive. But the difference between the Lakers winning it in 6 and the Bucks winning it in 6 was a mere four points, the combined margin of games 2 and 3, both won by the Lakers. The Bucks actually outscored the Lakers overall in the series 636 to 622. To me, those two teams were a dead even match, which reflects favorably on the '71 Bucks since they were almost but not quite as good statistically or record-wise in '72 yet they still gave the '72 Lakers all they could handle that year. I believe they were also the team that snapped the Lakers' 33-game winning streak. The '72 Bucks were still one of the better teams statistically in NBA history if you go by point differentials. While the '71 Bucks were #2 all time in point differential at 12.26 (just behind the '72 Lakers at 12.28 and just ahead of the '96 Bulls at 12.24), the '72 Bucks were #5 in point differential at 11.16, which gives them the distinction of the only team in the top 6 that didn't win a title.

I made a tier list on my channel for the greatest teams of all time and let me tell you this team is HEAVILY UNDERRATED. Lucius Allen and Kareem playing together in college helped big time and Lucius is sooo underrated
You know, I’ve noticed something, when a guard like Oscar, Jordan, and Kobe have conflicts with teammates, they “are just doing whatever it takes to win” or “they have a killer instinct”. But when Wilt Chamberlain did it he was “toxic” “soft” and “didn’t care about winning.” It’s just stupid
When the warriors were dominating the league with KD I was 100 percent convinced they were best team ever. Today I’m more at like 70 percent. I’m still convinced BUT there have been some great teams that deserve consideration. Well done with this series 👏

Being a small market team probably hurts the Bucks too in this discussion. You don't have the huge home-town crowds and mass-market media outlets trumpeting their claim the way the showtime Lakers or Jordan's Bulls did.
This dude is one of my favorite youtubers for sure. Keep it going like this bro!
making the case and greatest peaks are my favorite nba youtube content
YEAH BABYYYY THATS WHAT WEVE BEEN WAITING FOR
Thank you, thank you Clayton! Very good case for the 1971 Bucks to be the best of all time.
Clayton its been a month! please upload I can't wait any longer!!!!
Smooth transitions, info filled, buttery voice. The Clayton Crowley Special.
Seriously man you need to work for Secret Base, this content would fit flawlessly.
So underrated. You’re running laps as the best basketball RUclipsr at this point. I have not been disappointed with one of these yet.
Bro... I have to say that it pisses me off you have such little views!
Your videos are simply amazing!
Keep up the great work and content
This was a top notch video for a team that is almost completely outside the scope of GOAT consideration for NBA fandom.
We need a series called “Making the case for the greatest peak of all time”
I just found this series. This is great content my guy
Great to see Flula Borg in the Patreon credits. Wunderbar!
No debate, no conversation...great argument for greatness.
Gus Johnson was underrated man. So inspirational
This was one of the most well made videos I've ever seen
I found this channel 3 days ago. I alreafy declare Clayton as the greatest NBA RUclipsr of all time. I really truely mean that. I'm a sports enthusiast that's 21 years old and I know about all these great teams. I love the NBA a lot. However, there's bit a better storyteller about NBA history than Clayton. It makes these videos 100% addicting to watch. Great research, knowledge and dedication to the creation of the vids. Just amazing💪🔥❤
That puts Kareem on 2 squads on Claytons all time team list. Hmm, perhaps this is his dude.
LOVE THIS SERIES
Awesome video my man. Didn’t know anything ab this team, now it’s one of my favs.
I made a tier list on my channel for the greatest teams of all time and let me tell you this team is HEAVILY UNDERRATED. Lucius Allen and Kareem playing together in college helped big time and Lucius is sooo underrated
Nice work , young man!!
The Bucks have won the 2021 NBA Finals marking 50 years since their first win ! 🦌🏆!
The videos you put out are seriously some of the most high quality content on youtube
Amazing as always
I've always thought this team (and Oscar Robertson) were super underrated
Okay I'm convinced. Amazing video as always.
So Nice .very well yo saw marques Johnson .the first point foward in the NBA history. Well deserve tribute .
literally the best basketball content around
These are the videos I always look forward to
Watched this video like a dozen times and only now have I seen 7:58. Clayton is the G.O.A.T.
Well done with this series 👏
one of the best basketball channels on youtube
I had a coach who played with Jerry west wilt chamberlain Rick Barry and Oscar Robertson and told me that Oscar Robertson was the most automatic scorer he had ever seen
Who is the best youtuber when it comes to basketball and why is it Clayton Crowley?? You’re as magical as your namesake friend. Keep up the awesome work!
He is back🔥
Great Video as always 💯
Much love from Germany🇩🇪✌🏻
These guys always get forgotten about. Would love to see a video on the Washington Bullets from this era. They were a force in the 1970s man.
You do a great job with these.
I enjoy your content and analysis very well thought out but I only have one gripe I think you left one team out for greatest , the 1982-83 76ers other than that your takes are awsome
This was a better making the case for GOAT Kareem than the actual video
Alright now you gotta make an '04 Pistons video, I feel personally attacked. Awesome video as usual!
I agree! '04 Pistons is my favorite team!
They aren’t even the best Pistons team lol
KAJ was so good it wasn't fun for anyone to watch him or play against him LMAO
Great video!!! I wonder which team is next?
Ridiculously good video
5:00 Kareem has the cadence and word choice of a 1960’s advertisement for a cleaning sponge
cool to learn about something i dont really know much about! thank you bro
I'm slowly losing interest in basketball then you upload a video and poff the spark is back baby!!
I really hope Eddie Doucette got a patent for the naming of Kareem's hook shot the Sky Hook . The early 1970's was a great time for Bucks fans in Milwaukee, I was about to leave junior high school for high school when Milwaukee beat Earl the pearl Monroe and Wes Unseld led Baltimore Bullets' four straight games for the 1971 NBA title. Those were the days my friend.
First time viewer here. Very well made video keep up the good work man.
I guess the 1970-71 Bucks could be known as a pro's pro kind of team.
