I met Amy Lee about 17 years ago at a radio station in Houston. She was extremely pleasant. Down to earth. I asked her “What’s your favorite album, or one of them?” And she said “Soundgarden Superunknown I think is my favorite ever. But there’s a lot of them.” I’m sure we could’ve gone on talking about music all day all night but the radio DJ interrupted our discussion. Keep shining bright Amy.

Right! I think this list is more about musicianship and artistic integrity than it is just technical vocals. Some of these artists lead with primarily their voices, some of them want the audience to mainly be drawn in by the songwriting itself and happen to have unique enough voices to get people to listen, and others have hardcore vocals and amazing songwriting backing them.
This. I’m in a choir and we recently listened to Adijo Kerina, which is a foreign language song that’s supposed to be extremely angry. The sample choir we listened to sounded great by technical standards, but every single person in the room commented on how they should’ve been more emotive.

Wow. Who can name just 11? Especially since some of us have been around for a long, long time. But, those singers inspire(d) her, so that's what really counts. And, in turn, she inspires others.
Amy, you are definitely on my list of favorite vocalists. Not only do you have a great vocal range, but you also have such great control of your voice (volume, technique, etc,). Lastly, you deliver such passion and emotion (seemingly) effortlessly. Like you with Whitney Houston, I actually had a little bit of "training" while listening to Evanescence. You're one of my biggest inspirations as a musician, so thank you!

Great to see zakk on this list, could never say technically he has the best voice ever but definitely brings more passion to every work he speaks than anyone I’ve ever heard, he makes u feel and believe every word
I love hard rock, it's my favorite music, but if you ever heard a bluegrass singer named Allison Kraus, her voice blows any one away. Hands down the best voice in music. Not the best music, but the best voice. I can't believe she was left out. Her voice is angelic. I saw her at a concert at a casino, or I would have never heard of her.
People throw around voice of an angel a lot, but I think Alison Krauss and Amy Lee are two of the only vocalists to actually make me feel like their voices are angelic.
@Ray Zee Heard her in concert and she blew me away. I wasn't even there to see her but rather the headliner. When she started to sing my eyes filled with tears and my body was covered in goosebumps. Her voice is ethereal IMO.
I’d argue with this, but only in terms of personal preference. I’d prefer to listen to Amy Lee or Hayley Williams or Sharon Den adel, But I like Floor. Just don’t love her. I acknowledge her being great and having amazing dynamics, but I could name a bunch of other singers that are up there with her. Anneke Van Giersbergen.
Amazing video good to her the passion you have for other artists,, I must say you would be in my top 10 for 1) your energy 2) your voice 2) the amazing songs 4) the videos Awesome group thank you for the music.
Andrea Bocelli, Michael Crawford, Karen Carpenter, Ruthie Henshall, Larnelle Harris, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Timothy B. Schmidt are some of my favorites.
Amy - I loved seeing this list. It gave me a perspective of what you like and has influenced you. I must tell you that you and Floor Jansen are my two favorite vocalists of all time. I tell people all the time that there are many singers that sing to my ears, but you and Floor sing to my soul. You two have the ability to evoke so much emotion in me it sometimes shocks me. I am so happy I got to see both you and Floor in the past 9 months.
Wow Amy I have loved your voice since I first heard you and you are coming to my home town on the 20th of October but being on government support after a brain injury I will not be able to come but maybe come downtown and cheer you guys on! Peace Out and Rock Edmonton out
Ann Wilson, Steve Perry, Chris Cornell, James Hetfield, Ian Kenny, Bono, Alanis Morissette, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Bryan Adams, Mark Lanegan, these are probably my top 11🤔
Ozzy, Phil Collins, Jonathan Davis, Don Henley, Whitney Houston, Liv Kristine, Dave Gahan, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate, Layne Staley, Phil Anselmo, Pat Benetar, Stevie Nicks, Ann Wilson, Grace Slick, Shirley Manson, Lajon Witherspoon
I love the way you explain how and you appreciate a vocalist. Easy to connect with what you’re saying. We don’t agree on all the names on our top 10, but a lot of them.
Chris Cornell will always be my #1. Layne Staley, Mike Patton, Warrel Dane, Anneke Van Giersbergen, Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan all my favs. I'll add Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Ann Wilson as great voices who probably influenced most of the singers I've grown up with.
@Paul M. Nice to see someone mention Anneke Van Giersbergen, such a hugely underrated vocalist she is, The Gathering is a criminally underrated band. Souvenirs is my all time favourite album.
Mike Patton and Anneke are givens for me, i was fortunate enough to see Alice In Chains with Layne back in 1993..unforgettable. However i had some surprises in my gig going years. George Michael @ the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, Wembley 1992...just wow. And Danny Bowes from the band Thunder @ Donington Monsters of Rock in 1990...what a blues-influenced voice that guy had/has. I do love Chris Cornells' work too. Was lucky to see Soundgarden in Manchester 1992 (with GN'R/ FNM) and twice in Melbourne 2010. Wonderful memories that money genuinely can't buy.
@@nu-metalfan2654 I love Anneke in the Devin Townsend Project too! She's a powerful vocalist and an amazing songwriter and performer too. Her solo stuff is amazing!
I'd say this list is more about musicianship than vocals. Some of the singers she mentioned are mainly known for their amazing voices, some of them are mainly known for the songwriting aspect, some of them are talented at writing catchy songs with instrumentals that would be powerful enough without any singing--so it's more about the stage-presence aspect of their musicianship that attracts people than anything, and others are the full package. With that being said, these are my favorite artists and musical groups of all time--these are only my favorites, I have WAYYYY more that I like, but aren't my favs: -Evanescence--mainly because of Amy Lee, obviously -Whitney Houston -Ariana Grande -Queen -Journey -Aerosmith -Beyonce -P!nk -Kelly Clarkson -Jay Z -The Fugees -Michael Jackson -Aretha Franklin -Mariah Carey -Kendrick Lamar -Lady Gaga -Elton John -The Beatles -Taylor Swift -Celine Dion -Anne Murray -The Mountain Goats -Adele -Dixie Chicks -Avril Lavigne -Alicia Keys -Boyz II Men -Bruno Mars -Christina Perri -Train -Jessie J. -Jewel -Martina McBride -Sugarland -Sia -Frank Sinatra
Since you have Amy Lee at the top of your list you should hear Floor Jansen too, she is the vocalist of Nightwish. Also, have you heard the cover of Killing Me Softly by Jessie J?
I have to give her a thumbs up on the choices for sure. It's rather difficult to list only 11; if it were me, I'd definitely include Amy Winehouse. And I love that Björk was #2 -- she's a massive talent & innovator in some many different formats.
Believe it or not I only just started exploring Amy Lee's work and history- can't get enough of her expressive emotive voice. I'm an old-timer so I was familiar with and love Bjork, Michael Jackson, and of course Stevie Wonder. I'm going to check out the others she mentioned. Never really listened to Whitney Houston, but she was back in the day. I wouldn't put Tori Amos (not mentioned here) as a top vocalist in quite the same league as Amy, but I think she and Amy drew from similar types of inspiration and inner experiences in their compositions.
Great list, I would personally have a few different from personal preference but all these deserve their spots on any great list. Beth Gibbons and Thom Yorke could easily be overlooked but need to be recognized.
@Mr Moonlight You’re missing Kelly, Jessie J (just look at her I will always love you cover), and P!NK. Kelly and P!NK don’t have the best range but the INSANE versatility that they have is impressive.
@Mr Moonlight sure not the greatest but you can't deny she doesn't have talent vocally. From holding long notes for long periods of time ro reviving a whole style of singing. Her voice being unique also helps her out, no one has replicated the way she sounds. Nobody cares about gen z if they know her or not, this month alone she's been the 7-8th most listened female artist on spotify. Also the voice of a new generation, billie and ariana??!! Please tell me you're trolling lol
A few thousand moons ago in the early 80's l went to a Journey concert. Steve Perry was unreal. Perfect the entire show. Fish of Marillion is awesome. Iron Maiden is incredible.
Marillion is an interesting musical voyage. They was a Scottish band. They are all awesome musicians. Fish has a voice that perfectly fit in with the band. Their albums are a lot like Pink Floyd. The album is meant to be listened to in its entirety. Misplaced Childhood and Script for a Jester's Tear's is a good start to an interesting journey.
Hey Kesley. Was it The Escape Tour? I saw Journey 3 times at the LA Forum. 1978, 1979 and 1981. Steven was incredible. Especially The Escape Tour even Neil gave him a bow.
These All Time Vocalists had Athletics , Heart , Pain , Style , Mystery , Romance , Sexuality in their singing 1. Roy Orbison 2. Whitney Houston 3. Freddie Mercury 4. Anne Wilson 5. Ariana Grande 6. David Coverdale 7. Floor Janssen 8. Miljenko Matijevich 9. Andre Bocelli 10. Chris Cornell 11. Prince
Love Andrea’s voice. Beth Gibbons voice in The Polish National Radio Symphony is so powerful and beautiful. Lana Del Ray is so classic for this age in music and brings my mind to a different time. You have great taste.
Amy lee, Howard Jones, Maynard James Keenan, Phil Anselmo, serj tankian, Johnathan Davis, Freddie mercury, Syd Barrett, Layne Staley, rob Halford, Phil labonte.
The great thing about opinions is... yours are 100% valid, the next person's are too, but just as valid, I have my top 5: Ella, Whitney, Nat Cole, Al Jarreau and perhaps a bit surprisingly, Angelina Jordan, in that order. (BTW, I saw Chris Cornell mentioned in several comments here... his voice was ultra special too!)
How could yyou not get Floor Jansen on that list. She has everything : the voice, the power, the technique, the emotion, the stage presence, everything. She's arguably the greatest female singer of all time
I miss Floor Jansen from the list as well, and also Simone Simons. But I think this list is more like who inspired her in her childhood/early years. Just like a similar way that I heard about almost everyone from that list, but does not really listen any of those bands/singers so I would not put them on my list. There can be many talented singers who we do not ever hear about during our life.
Considserign aside of Lana, all the vocalists on there are quite old, I assume these are more a top 10-11 of vocalists that personally influenced her. hence little to no artists on there currently active.
Chino Moreno, Chester Bennington, Bruce Dickinson, Chris Cornell, Zack De la Rocha, Kurt Cobain, Amy Lee, Randy Blythe, Corey Taylor, Jonny Craig and Oliver Sykes. Those vocalists are perfection to me.
I have never been an Evanescence fan and I must say her list is absolutely awesome and honest. When she mentioned Björk I felt such a joy in my heart. I was like: Really? Like it is so amazing that Amy is into one of my favorite singers. I must say I thought she was going to mention Kurt Cobain too. I used to sing and even in the punk/hardcore music scene no one screams with such intensity. It feels like his lungs were going to be spit out.
My list would be: Diamanda Galás, Zola Jesus, Amy Lee, Anna von Hausswolff, Klaus Nomi, Ronnie James Dio, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Maria Callas, Andrea Bocelli and Janis Joplin.
Here's my Top 10: 1. Axl Rose 2. Chris Cornell 3. Freddie Mercury 4. Whitney Houston 5. Steve Perry 6. Karen Carpenter 7. Michael Jackson 8. Elvis 9. Heart 10. Amy Lee
I'm a huge Evanesence fan, nice to hear Amy's thoughts about other vocalists. I know she cannot include herself, but if i was making this list, she would have been on it for sure.. Very surprised she didnt include Mike Patton in her list. For me personally, Mike's vocal's are number 1 in the music industry with Layne Staley a close second!
Ozzy is like, 1, almost needent be mentioned because yes, not as much range as Freddy, but he's just kind of the best singer, in ways you can't really explain he's just the best!
Great picks, Amy - and I love your explanations of why you like them so much. Personally not a fan of Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston, but I have to admit - they were great singers - and of course for yourself as a singer, that would stand out for you… PS - I love YOUR voice!❤️👍☮️

Wow. Who can name just 11? Especially since some of us have been around for a long, long time. But, those singers inspire(d) her, so that's what really counts. And, in turn, she inspires others.
Agree and good way to put it!
Maynard James Keenan never gets the recognition he absolutely deserves.
💯🔥🔥🔥
Amy, you are definitely on my list of favorite vocalists. Not only do you have a great vocal range, but you also have such great control of your voice (volume, technique, etc,). Lastly, you deliver such passion and emotion (seemingly) effortlessly. Like you with Whitney Houston, I actually had a little bit of "training" while listening to Evanescence. You're one of my biggest inspirations as a musician, so thank you!
She has a badass music taste
and a badass
Amy doesn't pick 11 greatest vocalists ever, she picks 11 greatest artists who inspired her
Sounds to me thats the way to go about it really, in the end its personal preference.
@@TerranigmaQuintet A better way would be to judge based on technical skill and then rank according to intangibles such as how much they're an influence to you.
11 greatest artists who inspired her… who also happen to some of the greatest vocalists ever
@@mzou89 atleast Freddie is the greatest ever
Great list Amy…Elvis, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, Linda Ronstadt, Amy Lee, Freddie Mercury, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Billie Holliday, Madeleine Peroux and Don Henley for my 11. Lots of great ones🥁🥁🥁
Thanks for the well thought-out list of true artists who have inspired and moved you. I have also been moved and enjoyed everyone on the list ... as well as by you, Amy. Thanks again, I really enjoyed that.
Robert Plant,Jim Morrison, Roger Daltry, Eric Burdon, Van Morrison, Janis Joplin, Cass Elliot, Aretha Franklin, Anne Wilson, Tom Jones, Steve Perry.
You're from my generation. I was gonna say Plant and Daltry, and would include many of the people you mentioned.
Amy is such a down to earth conversationalist. And one of the best vocalists ever.
No wonder your voice is so beautiful. Your idols are the best voices in music history. I love Chris Cornell 💙
Peter Steele, Lisa Gerrard, Freddie Mercury, Linda Perry, Lana del Ray. Tarja Turunen, Pedro Code,Bjork, Matt Beringer,Ville Valo,Brian Molko
Love Amy and her latest album with Evanescence, The Bitter Truth ❤️🙌🏼
Amy is a legend her range is unbelievable
Great picks and I would add: Maynard James Keenan, Mike Patton, Tori Amos, Joe Cocker, Vashti Bunyan, Layne Staley, Elizabeth Frazer, Jasmine Sullivan... and I'm sure I'm forgetting some but...yeah no one really needs to add Ozzy, because its just obvious!
My top 10 is George Michael,Beth Gibbons,Bjork,Whitney Houston,Freddie Mercury,Alanis Morissette,Beth Ditto,Michael Jackson,Jared Leto,Morten Harket,and you of course!
Some of my favorites:
- James Hetfield
- Layne Staley
- Jerry Cantrell

@@brianpinion5844 Cool shit, Brian! Cheers+ 🍻
With that kind of a list I would add Phil Anselmo from Pantera there too
Yes! And Paul Rodgers all day to this rock list!
Great to see zakk on this list, could never say technically he has the best voice ever but definitely brings more passion to every work he speaks than anyone I’ve ever heard, he makes u feel and believe every word
Although Zach isn't technically singing.......
He has to rap in the key that the band are playing in.
It's not as easy as many might think.
Just saw her and the legend at The Greek at Cal. Couldn't agree with you more.
Allison Kraus "Catfish John" with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is amazing
People throw around voice of an angel a lot, but I think Alison Krauss and Amy Lee are two of the only vocalists to actually make me feel like their voices are angelic.
Can't explain it, but it's the truth.
@Ray Zee Heard her in concert and she blew me away. I wasn't even there to see her but rather the headliner. When she started to sing my eyes filled with tears and my body was covered in goosebumps. Her voice is ethereal IMO.
You would easily be in my top ten! Haunting and powerful! Thank you!!!!
Floor Jansen of Nightwish is the best female lead singer of today's metal. Hail to the Valkyrie Queen.
Absolutely, she a musical chameleon.
@@zaynes5094 Nobody is even close to Floor sorry !!!!
Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth has some of the best growls in the game but also a beautiful melodic voice too. Definitely my favourite
Freddy Mercury actually did sing opera with Monseratte Caballe. Their rendition of Barcelona is incredible.
It's too bad you can't be on your own list because Amy Lee deserves that. The power, emotion, and range she exhibits easily places her in the top 10.
Amazing video good to her the passion you have for other artists,, I must say you would be in my top 10 for
1) your energy
2) your voice
2) the amazing songs
4) the videos
Awesome group thank you for the music.
Floor is a goddess! The best singer in metal! She can sing anything.
Floor is levels above her
Wow Amy I have loved your voice since I first heard you and you are coming to my home town on the 20th of October but being on government support after a brain injury I will not be able to come but maybe come downtown and cheer you guys on! Peace Out and Rock Edmonton out
Great list. Love Amy's voice. One of my Favorite is Brent Smith of Shinedown. I have many more . It's hard to create this list and stop at a top 10.
AMY, your voice is special, and captivating, you draw, people into your music,I love your voice and your soul into your music!
This was such a great diverse list. All these singers stick with you in one way or another. And you do to Amy:)
OMG! It was amazing to watch this video! Because Amy is my inspiration! And it's so cool to know what singers she listen to.
I saw her live, and her voice is angelic even more in person (amy lees)
Ann Wilson, Steve Perry, Chris Cornell, James Hetfield, Ian Kenny, Bono, Alanis Morissette, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Bryan Adams, Mark Lanegan, these are probably my top 11🤔
Chester bennington?
Florence welch for me. Chills down my spine every time
Ozzy, Phil Collins, Jonathan Davis, Don Henley, Whitney Houston, Liv Kristine, Dave Gahan, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate, Layne Staley, Phil Anselmo, Pat Benetar, Stevie Nicks, Ann Wilson, Grace Slick, Shirley Manson, Lajon Witherspoon
I’ve been telling people since I first became obsessed 😉with “Superunknown” in 94 when it came out that Soundgarden made soul music…plain & simple
@@nu-metalfan2654 Love 'The Gatherings' recordings with Anneke. How To Measure a Planet is a masterpiece.
@@nu-metalfan2654 I love Anneke in the Devin Townsend Project too! She's a powerful vocalist and an amazing songwriter and performer too. Her solo stuff is amazing!
Awesome selections. I listened to all of them and still do this day. Zach was the surprise pick as he rarely gets props for his vocals.
Thom Yorke is easily my favorite singer
I'd say this list is more about musicianship than vocals.
Some of the singers she mentioned are mainly known for their amazing voices, some of them are mainly known for the songwriting aspect, some of them are talented at writing catchy songs with instrumentals that would be powerful enough without any singing--so it's more about the stage-presence aspect of their musicianship that attracts people than anything, and others are the full package.
With that being said, these are my favorite artists and musical groups of all time--these are only my favorites, I have WAYYYY more that I like, but aren't my favs:
-Evanescence--mainly because of Amy Lee, obviously
-Whitney Houston
-Ariana Grande
-Queen
-Journey
-Aerosmith
-Beyonce
-P!nk
-Kelly Clarkson
-Jay Z
-The Fugees
-Michael Jackson
-Aretha Franklin
-Mariah Carey
-Kendrick Lamar
-Lady Gaga
-Elton John
-The Beatles
-Taylor Swift
-Celine Dion
-Anne Murray
-The Mountain Goats
-Adele
-Dixie Chicks
-Avril Lavigne
-Alicia Keys
-Boyz II Men
-Bruno Mars
-Christina Perri
-Train
-Jessie J.
-Jewel
-Martina McBride
-Sugarland
-Sia
-Frank Sinatra
🤣🤣Finally someone who 🤣🤣remember of TAYLOR SWIFT 🤣🤣
Since you have Amy Lee at the top of your list you should hear Floor Jansen too, she is the vocalist of Nightwish. Also, have you heard the cover of Killing Me Softly by Jessie J?
It was just like having a chat with Amy Lee - so personable 😊
I have to give her a thumbs up on the choices for sure. It's rather difficult to list only 11; if it were me, I'd definitely include Amy Winehouse. And I love that Björk was #2 -- she's a massive talent & innovator in some many different formats.
Totally agree on both. Amy Winehouse's vocals on the album 'Frank' were of another world.
Björk is a genius! Vocalist , musician , audio engineer, etc ,etc ! #bjork
I bought 'Debut' when it was released. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
The vocals, melodies, lyrics and production were and still are sublime.
Great choice Amy! Your vocal is so beautiful & I love your list, especially I am always love Thom Yorke’s voice~ sooth & ethereal.
1) Celine Dion
2) Josh Groban
3) Luther Vandross
4) Whitney Houston
5) Michael Jackson
6) Giorgia Fumanti
7) 赵传
8) Aida Nikolaychuk
9) Mariah Carey (when young)
10) Lauren Hill
11) Jewel
Honorable Mention: Steven Tyler
Lana Del Rey really is the voice of the new generation. Her legacy is huge, her poetry is everlasting, her voice is unique.
She can't sing.
For a millenial, since she is one, i prefer Lady Gaga, Ariana and Demi. Though she does have a unique voice. That i agree with u
@Mr Moonlight You’re missing Kelly, Jessie J (just look at her I will always love you cover), and P!NK. Kelly and P!NK don’t have the best range but the INSANE versatility that they have is impressive.
@Mr MoonlightYeah. But I also
Forgot miley!!! Her cover of zombie is… amazing
Amy Lee jumped to No.1 after hearing her raw, but I have to say when I heard Ann Wilson live, her voice left a lasting impression.
A few thousand moons ago in the early 80's l went to a Journey concert. Steve Perry was unreal. Perfect the entire show. Fish of Marillion is awesome. Iron Maiden is incredible.
Omg! Journey n iron maiden for life man
Marillion is an interesting musical voyage.

Love Andrea’s voice. Beth Gibbons voice in The Polish National Radio Symphony is so powerful and beautiful. Lana Del Ray is so classic for this age in music and brings my mind to a different time. You have great taste.
Love many of these, Amy has great taste. Of course she's too one of the greatest voices, she's top 3 on my list.
Amy lee, Howard Jones, Maynard James Keenan, Phil Anselmo, serj tankian, Johnathan Davis, Freddie mercury, Syd Barrett, Layne Staley, rob Halford, Phil labonte.
What a diverse and interesting list! I love it! Thank you, Amy Lee!
She's arguably the greatest female singer of all time
Floor Jansen is the only voice that has brought tears to my eyes everytime I hear her. I didn’t even know that was a thing 😊
I don’t like her voice at all 🤷🏾♀️

Considserign aside of Lana, all the vocalists on there are quite old, I assume these are more a top 10-11 of vocalists that personally influenced her. hence little to no artists on there currently active.
Chino Moreno, Chester Bennington, Bruce Dickinson, Chris Cornell, Zack De la Rocha, Kurt Cobain, Amy Lee, Randy Blythe, Corey Taylor, Jonny Craig and Oliver Sykes.
Those vocalists are perfection to me.
Yes, absolutely Freddie Mercury!

Very surprised she didnt include Mike Patton in her list. For me personally, Mike's vocal's are number 1 in the music industry with Layne Staley a close second!
Go Amy! Your one of my favs amongst Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden + Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath and many others.
