You had a fried corn tamale at the last place. It's usually dry so it goes well mixed with a side of Salvadoran cream or refried beans. The other dumpling looking things are called pasteles de carne which are similar to what other countries in latam call empanadas. Other than that, you can always ask for curtido and salsa when ordering pupusas if they don't give them to you. 20:33 Or sometimes its a self serve thing so lookout for the containers. Also, the small pupuserias are mostly the cheaper on the go spots you pass by on your way to work. There are more upscale restaurants in which pupusas can cost you up to $1.25. Before you leave, you have to try the "loca." Or the "crazy pupusa." Go hungry and bring a couple of buddies bc they're as big as a pizza pie, it has all traditional and special ingredients.
7:00 we are like that with everyone hahaha, we are always joking around, when we see someone that's new to a place we usual joke with them to make them feel welcomed, they were not laughing about you but WITH you :)
if I'm not mistaken the one you tasted at 17:23 was a nuegado , next time you come to El Salvador either for work or vacation you should go to Planes de Renderos and tryComida Tipica up there
Nuegado is made of Yuca/kachava... with sugar/caramel

My first week working on a Landscaping company, there were two Mexican, one Guatemalan , one from Honduras and one from Nicaragua, buying pupusas I didn't know they were so loved around every person, we usually stop by buying pupusas in a gas station in Friendswood Texas , I'm salvadorean and we love Pupusas... In your last meal you had a fried corn tamale which is usually eaten with Salvadoran sour cream. Pastelitos are the ones made with ground beef. Nuegado is the small round one which is made out of Yuca root and is served with a sweet syrup.

You should also try the ones made out of rise masa instead of corn 😊
Next time you are in El Salvador you HAVE TO GO to Olocuilta to try the original Rice Pupusas. Also go to "Planes de Renderos" which is in the moutains of San Salvador and definately go to Antiguo Cuscatlan . You will have the triveca of Pupusas standards. The best of the best. Blessings
There are so many different typical foods in El Salvador. You had there some pastelitos, you also had corn tamales (although you were missing the sour cream with them)

So glad you enjoyed our country, specially pupusas! You ate "rice flour" pupusas...you can pick rice or corn flour, but my favorites are rice and that is the most famous type in Olocuilta (where that pupuseria's name cames from). ENJOY

Loved your video, I am Salvadoran and what you had there are: Tamales de Elote 8 (Corn Tamales) but the fried version, the original version is baked and then they fried them. The Crunchy half moon shaped thing are Patelitos de Carne (meat fried pie) they are filled with a mixture of meat, potato mashed and veggies like onions, carrots and sweet peppers. And the last one was a Nuegado de Yuca (Cassava dough) they smash the cassava and add a very basic form of pre factory sugar straight naturally obtained from the sugar cane call “Atado” hence the sweetness and then they fried the dougs. Hope this helps and LONG LIVE PUPUSAS!
