For anybody curious about that one lap of SM64 Whomp Fortress not counting, here’s a synopsis: Mario Kart Wii keeps track of the player position through a series of boxes along the track (we’ll call these checkpoints). These checkpoints are used to let Lakitu know where to place the racer after they fall. Some of these checkpoints are more important than others. Let’s refer to these as regions. Only 3 regions are loaded in at a time: the one you are in, the one behind you, and the one ahead of you. Driving through updates the region and spawns/despawns the next set. In order to keep the player from cheesing laps, driving through checkpoints backwards secretly subtracts laps. However, if you can skip over some of the checkpoints and hit the region behind you, then the region will update. Driving across the finish line will count a lap. For a more detailed explanation (and examples), please check out “The History of the Ultra Shortcut” by Summoning Salt.
Six King Labyrinth was WAY too hard for me as well. I have played the track for maybe 4 times throughout the time I had the custom tracks and I have never been able to beat it or go to the next lap. The track looks nice and so does the music they use but the track is just too hard to beat. Like seriously Haunted Woods is 10x better in my opinion. It's still hard but not as hard as that level.
