I accidentally said 1.15 i meant 1.16 ^-^ *Edit:* this was posted when I had like 6k subs, i didnt know a million people would watch it I just found it an interesting topic at the time. I love Dream, dont take this the wrong way!!
Funny enough, the mods caught him cheating on the 1.15 speedrun as well! And that one was a WR! Funnier enough, this whole statement came out right after they quietly took down his 1.15 run.
I mean the bad outcome of it is that his stans were attacking the moderators for doing their job. That's the biggest problem with all of this. Publicity stunt gone wrong.
i HIGHLY doubt it was a publicity stunt if it was dream would have planned it out and with how flawed his responses were theres no way he did this intentionally he thought he could get away with cheating and he didnt think the situation would get out of hand once it got to the point where he hired the astrophysicist he literally had no other options and had no control over the situation
@@aelphind4954I agree I dont think it was a publicity stunt. I think it was dream trying to save his image when they called him out for cheating which honestly he did a shit job at doing so. Dream knows that he wont get cancelled so he pulled out the appologie to again save his image. It was all about image, speedrun to look good, fight back and tell them their clout chasers to look serious and angry (but looking good), then pull out a appologie to look sorry (also looking good) all to his stans.
@@Afatratnamedpat i think its also wrong to look at this as him trying to save his image and focusing on the way he fought back when that really isnt important. Dream never thought he was immune to being cancelled and frankly its incredibly misguided for anyone to think he is anywhere close to immune. If dream was truly immune to being cancelled he would have admitted to cheating after people started debunking his initial response and he wouldnt have lied about it being an accident in his confession. If dream had admitted to cheating intentionally after attacking the mod team and hiring an astrophysicist his career would have been over no matter how many stans he has or how prominent a figure he is on the internet. If he had admitted it after the first response when the hate was at its peak he would have been cancelled by critics of him and his community and if he had admitted to it completely in his confession literally everyone besides around half of his stans that would still remain would see him as a sociopath, which he isnt, and his channel would decline significantly. Dream cheated because he felt he needed to get a good time on a speedrun and thought he could get away with it, and when his legitimacy was questioned, he thought he could get away with it by hiring an astrophysicist and make a response. When that didn't work, dream would have decided he wanted to admit it, but he literally couldnt at that point and had to keep defending himself. Most of the attacks on the mod team were out of desperation and his stans ended up doing way too much damage and dream couldnt get them to stop without admitting he lied, so he just kinda let the situation die down. dream didnt do the apology to look good to his stans, his stans cant see anything else in the first place so that would be unnecessary. Dream did the apology in an attempt to completely end the situation by getting the guilt off his back and apologizing to the mod team but without admitting he lied because again his career would be over if he admitted that it was intentional and that he lied the whole time. Dream was not the perpetrator in this situation, he was the victim of his own ego and mistakes. the situation didn't benefit him and there was never any point in time during this situation where the outcome was favorable to him.
I love how beluga talks about dream going viral meanwhile he makes sub 5 minute discord joke videos and he showed up on EVERYONES home page at once you went more than viral my guy, congrats
i don't think the speedrun mods getting death threats is much of a benefit. EDIT: Yooo since this popped off, I highly recommend Karl Jobst's video on this. It's reeaallly long, but I find he has the best analysis of the situation. The tldw of his video is that dream was probably being honest for the most part, but told a lot of half-truths and handled the situation unbelievably poorly, especially considering the size of his audience.
I know too little about Dream to speculate accurately, but I’d like to point out that when someone isn’t good at defending themselves from blame, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re lying. Some people are really unskilled when it comes to persuasive language. As for motives, Occam’s Razor dictates how the more complex someone’s supposed “scheme” looks, the less likely it is to have occurred. Simple answers are often most likely correct, especially if we’re speculating about what’s in someone’s head This isn’t a defense per se, but your argument lacks substance

I don’t care if Dream cheated in his speedruns. Do you know why I don’t care? That’s because there’s one thing that isn’t fake, and that is the mlgs he does.
The only problem is that - there's a lot of ways to make your content fun and entertaining, and there are areas where you should just simply respect the boundary - and he chose to disrespect a system just to share a very "wholesome" content and entertainment. That's like entering a simple running contest but you managed to have a roller blades, compete and tell everyone "just love me, fuck the rules, it's for entertainment and you got it!"
@@Dumbsourplum Not really, if you truly are following his recent rants and excuses (which is extremely dumb) He finally realized that HE THINKS he cheated but "not sure how" and he really got nothing to apologized for, let's just move on, thank you for the spotlight. If you think I'm making this up, go check all of his recent rantings, esp that very long, early morning bathroom "confession".
@@Dumbsourplum that's exactly what he "wasn't sure" with lol - a very lame, poor attempt to tell people that he made an oopsie - considering he managed to specifically remember and identify it after all the drama, even hired a harvard astrophysicist that supposed to defend him but ended up questioning his method, and the rest of the world set their eyes on him and when there's nowhere to run, he just finally revealed it but won't admit it and definitely won't be sorry about it - all he really wanted is those money views, enforced people to simply forget it and love him and just move on. Let's not joke ourselves here - no matter how we see this through, he already made a profit out of it, and with his zealous fan base, he can (sadly speaking) afford to do anything: right or wrong, he exactly knows that at the end of the day, people will simply forgive him and that he can still repeat this scandal anytime he wants now for easy money.
"I cheated to gain fame, but I will call it an accident even though it's actually a part of my masterplan and I've studied the youtube algorithm to know what's going viral and what's not and now I got 25 mil views on the vid along with 2 mil+ subs." ~ Dream
@@ShauryaHallow yet the one which was cheated on gave his speedrun vids a boost, so to his sub count. This was all for publicity so similar content was more relevant and was recommended to others by the yt algorigthm. So be it "Indirectly", dream did get boost cause of a vid he didnt even post, but due to controversy instead :)
7:22 Beluga: "holding a speed running world record for the most popular game in the world is extremely lucrative, and it would totally make sense why he would want to obtain it" While this statement holds true, the method which Dream obtained this "record" wasn't authentic, as he used cheats, whether intentional or not. I agree with the fact that Dream most likely done this for more attention and popularity, making his video not under the typical "fake speedrun" with the intention of breaking the world record with the use of cheats, but more of a "Entertainment speedrun" with the intention of using cheats to entertain an audience and gain a better reputation. However, to majority of the Minecraft community, the definition of Minecraft speedrunning would be to defeat the Ender Dragon within the shortest time possible *without* cheats, and Dream obviously broke that rule. I must reiterate that he (probably) did the "speedrun" for entertainment purposes only, but by claiming that it was a speedrun (as stated in his video's title), people would assume that his speedrun was done without any form of cheating. I would like to add the fact that speedrunning is not something which people take lightly, and is treated so seriously to the point some even take it as a career. Hence, people who spent years mastering this art suddenly seeing a youtuber who doesn't even specialise in it beating the world record would utterly shock them, causing it to be brought under intense scrutiny by the speedrunning committee, subsequently leading to Dream being exposed. What worsens the situation is that Dream, while knowing that a speedrun was to be done without cheats, still posted the video, claiming that it was a "speedrun that broke the world record". Assuming that he did indeed cheat intentionally, it shows how he blatantly ignores that fact that a speedrun was meant to be done without cheats, as he shamelessly goes on to acclaim himself as the speedrun record holder, despite knowing that he deliberately used unconventional methods to do so. This would seriously put his moral values into question, as he considers entertaining a crowd to be more important than playing fairly and legitimately. While it indeed is crucial for youtubers to find new and aspiring ways to entertain their viewers, this must be done practically and honestly, and without the use of cheats and deceit. The fact that he still attempts to cover up for himself by claiming it was unintentional would further show how he desperately defends himself, refusing to confess the truth in an attempt to save his reputation, further showing his lack of proper moral values (supposing he did intentionally cheat). However, on the other hand, if he indeed had not cheated and this was merely an accident, he indeed does have the right to feel indignant and defend himself against the constant attacks. Understandably, Dream, being a popular youtuber with a high reputation, would refuse to admit to using unorthodox methods to break a world record, which (probably) wasn't even his aim in the first place. He merely wanted to do so for entertainment purposes only, whether he cheated intentionally or not. However, that is not to say his response to the criticism made the situation worse. Swallowing his pride may be a tough thing for him to do, but had he done so, he would not be gunned down for his denial of purposeful cheating. However, Dream simply could not bear admitting to doing something which he (supposedly) did not do, as he fears losing his popularity and fame. This pressure results in him giving more of a "grey area" response, where he hoped it cause minimal damage to his reputation while satisfying (most) of the public. While it remains debatable if his response was for the best, I feel that he found the most suitable way out of the situation, as we now see less discussion over the topic and no decrease in his overall trend of viewers, likes, and subscribers. Nevertheless, all in all, find the odds of Dream not intentionally cheating to be extremely low. Dream did not have any solid evidence to back up his claim of not cheating, and even if the drop rates being altered were really unintentional, just who really did alter them? What were the possibilities that someone intentionally hacked Dream and altered his drop rates, and who would have done that? Hence, from my (assumed) conclusion that Dream did indeed cheat, I emphasise one final time that no matter what the circumstances or the purpose, it does not justify Dream breaking rules, especially if he know them. (Come on, Dream's a youtuber, so he obviously knows the rules of speedrunning. And he definitely knows what people would infer from the title "Minecraft Speedrun World Record 1.15")
All of us know he's just making this video for subs from those Stan's. Obviously this kid doesn't know how speedrunning community works and that dream shared photoshopped screenshots of all his mods (some are legal). And then suddenly, he says he *accidentally* did it. Kid should be totally banned from gaming. Imagine I go to a eSports event, cheat, earn a f*ck ton of money for everyone to just know that I cheated, and stay rich for life. Not only that, he launched personal attacks on the moderation team on twitter and ordered his Stan's to harass them.

@@ogaboga6496 dream cheated and is a liar. 99.99% of content creators would get cancelled. But not dream. He has a brainwashed stan army. The only reason that his fan base believes the outrageous and blatantly stupid and nonsensical claims that he makes is that they are all 8 year olds without an ounce of critical thinking or reason. The year is 2021. 2021!!!!!!!!! We live in the era of information. It scares me about how many people jump in and believe lies like this.
Here’s my theory: I mean if he did want to gain publicity AND preserve his own reputation, he hadn’t done a very good job at it. Some people started looking down at him and his ‘stan’ community. His credibility had declined. If making speed running vids make publicity then he would have gained publicity from his speed run either way whether if he actually cheated or not. But he did cheat. So why go through the trouble of cheating when your speed run would have gained popularity either way? The answer is simple: it’s like what Karl Jobst, an experienced speed runner of 007 games, said, ‘People (who speed run) don’t cheat for a faster time, they cheat to get a time faster.’ So I believe Dream got way too sick to put in the bother to actually speed run. And although he wasn’t a professional speed runner, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be heavily engaged in it. He did complain many times before how hard it was to speed run in the new Minecraft update. Edit: Someone mentions the fact that it could have been an accident. If this was true, surely Dream would have admitted that he did and tried to clear the air as soon as he could. But no. Instead he tried defending himself by using his fan base to verbally attack anyone who denounces him. He even went his way to hire an astrophysicist. Remember this went on for a year. What I don’t get is why wait for about a year then admitted that you did cheat when everyone is tired already? Edit 2: Quick update, after watching Karl Jobst’s video it turns out Dream did in fact cheat on accident because he wanted to make content making better for him when doing single player speed runs by using mods as well as a plugin for his manhunt videos. When he hired the developer, Dream forgot to tell him that he only wanted increased drop rates for multiplayer meaning he had to modify the plugin only, but the developer accidentally did it for the mod as well meaning without Dream’s knowledge, Dream went on to do the speed runs without even knowing that mistakes were made, which made sense why Dream fought so hard to defend himself. He only found out this a month ago when the developer decided to open after months of waiting since s/he was scared to tell Dream after the mistake since they thought they could lose their job.

I understand where you are coming from, but let's point out something. Dream, for a while, denied and blasted the speedrun moderators of cheating. This gives him publicity, but not the good kind. If he was trying to "spread positivity", he would immeadiatly admitted and avoided the whole situation. Also, Dream's content isn't even that good. All he does is play Minecraft, add some music in the background, and upload 45 min videos to RUclips. Would you call that a "good youtuber"? His personality is stale. He doesn't make me laugh, or feel anything. I feel like Dream took the wrong approach, and especially with the new speedrun strategies that are used, there should be no reason to say that, "he isn't a professional speedrunner." Dude. Why would he set 3 WR just for content, and FAKE them as well. I feel like your points make sense, but don't completely line up. Dream is a strange man, and definently needs a closer look.
Agreed, in no way is Dream spreading positivity especially with how he actually approves of a lot of the behavior of the stan culture he has built around him. His "i'm not a professional speedrunner" argument is bullshit because if he isn't he shouldn't be saying his videos are a "speedrunner vs hunters" as that's clear clickbait at it's core. I must say though, I fully believe he set up his WRs to be faked, for publicity, and not content. It was all a way to build his brand as a "speedrunner," to give him something he'd be known for. Why? Money. Dream is more than likely one of those youtubers who just do this for the money.
Guys before you go and rant on about dream, there is a video by Karl Jobst where he explains why he believes that dream most likely didnt cheat on purpose and why it was most likely an accident. It is incredibly detailed and he talks about almost every aspect of the entire dream drama. I am very certain that he is a credible source
Personally, it feels as if it could have been possible to "accidentally cheat", but if that was the case, it seems VERY unlikely that it took almost a full year to realize. I feel like he doesn't understand shit about mathematics and statistics and believed it would be possible to say "maybe I was just lucky" and people wouldn't understand, even though it was blatantly obvious to anyone with a background in statistics that the drop rates were modified (note that in the last response, even the "astrophysicist" dream hired came to this conclusion). When he realized most people understand that he was lying, he needed to confess, but still wanted to pretend as if he didn't know for a full year.
Yes, it is very possible he didn’t realize he had the mods on at first, but even still, it would’ve been blissfully ignorant of him not to realize immediately after. He knows the game far too well to not realize he’s being extremely lucky, on top of the fact that he knew he had a mod that would give him those exact results. and when he got pressured about the whole thing, he should’ve at least checked to see if he had the mods on. I’m very familiar with binomial distribution and factorial reciprocation / correlation, so I do understand that his drops are very much improbable, and while I do see how dream wouldn’t realize this, his background in Minecraft certainly would’ve tipped him off immediately
@@camdenandfriends174 You see that's just not fair. Illumina didn't even notice until someone else pointed it out so saying he must have realized it just isn't realistic. Especially not with bartering having been relatively new at the times of the claims. Y'all act like "he should have known" but yourselves probably wouldn't have known if you were in the exact same situation at the same time
@@jucedoesthings4534 well actually dream would’ve known, even if it was relatively new, he still had a ton of experience and it doesn’t take much research to find out that those drops are super rare. In fact, dream would’ve most definitely have known this in preparation for the runs
@@camdenandfriends174 Still wrong. He wasn't trading a lot, at that time people were lucky to trade a handful of times. So any error would go by unnoticed. If Illumina, Benex, and other professional speedrunners didn't notice, neither would he. And it's unfair to say that he would
@@jucedoesthings4534 it was very common knowledge that those drops were rare, to everyone. Even just random people. And even if he didn’t notice in the moment, which I already said was very plausible, he should’ve checked for the mod when he got accused of using it. So either he’s incredibly ignorant, or outright lied to everyone intentionally
“Gave then a lot more exposure” exposure to thousands of people wanting to kill them and wishing death on them, you should have thought about that sentence before saying it, and dream should have thought about how it would effect the mods before doing it

Yuh
He changed his name a few times
Funny enough, the mods caught him cheating on the 1.15 speedrun as well! And that one was a WR!
Funnier enough, this whole statement came out right after they quietly took down his 1.15 run.
I mean the bad outcome of it is that his stans were attacking the moderators for doing their job. That's the biggest problem with all of this. Publicity stunt gone wrong.
Dream literally insulted them as well
i HIGHLY doubt it was a publicity stunt if it was dream would have planned it out and with how flawed his responses were theres no way he did this intentionally he thought he could get away with cheating and he didnt think the situation would get out of hand once it got to the point where he hired the astrophysicist he literally had no other options and had no control over the situation

I don’t care if Dream cheated in his speedruns. Do you know why I don’t care? That’s because there’s one thing that isn’t fake, and that is the mlgs he does.
Only one in 7.5 trillion
One mod can literally change everything in the speedrun
The only problem is that - there's a lot of ways to make your content fun and entertaining, and there are areas where you should just simply respect the boundary - and he chose to disrespect a system just to share a very "wholesome" content and entertainment.
That's like entering a simple running contest but you managed to have a roller blades, compete and tell everyone "just love me, fuck the rules, it's for entertainment and you got it!"
Again i disagree with the publicity stunt motive possibility, He was already scared shitless of his own fans why would he want more

7:22 Beluga: "holding a speed running world record for the most popular game in the world is extremely lucrative, and it would totally make sense why he would want to obtain it"
While this statement holds true, the method which Dream obtained this "record" wasn't authentic, as he used cheats, whether intentional or not.

The year is 2021. 2021!!!!!!!!! We live in the era of information. It scares me about how many people jump in and believe lies like this.
This is a genius move by dream, and the reason why beluga noticed this is because he does a similar thing
Here’s my theory:
I mean if he did want to gain publicity AND preserve his own reputation, he hadn’t done a very good job at it.

Why?
“Gave then a lot more exposure” exposure to thousands of people wanting to kill them and wishing death on them, you should have thought about that sentence before saying it, and dream should have thought about how it would effect the mods before doing it
nothing about the statement is objectively incorrect
Now Beluga is doing a RUclips Speedrun!
