Using a Digital Angle Finder on Tube, pipe or bar to locate/clock drill locations/tube notches

- Hey everyone!
Today we are talking about using a digital angle finder to locate different degrees around round stuff.. like Tube, pipe or bar! Need to drill 3 holes in a tube that are 120 degrees apart? Do you need to clock a tube notch 45 degrees apart? This simple tool makes it extremely easy to do so, accurately. You can also use this digital angle finder to set your saw tables to the correct angle.. bend, notch and drill tube, pipe or bar and always maintain a 0 degree reference.
You can pick this digital angle finder up on amazon as well as many other locations. Its pretty easy to make a DIY clamp set up to attach to a tube.. Link below--

keep the hints and tips coming. always makes for a entertaining watch
Adam Brown Thanks Adam! I appreciate it man. Thanks for watching and I’ll definitely keep them coming!
Iv had one of these level box's for a couple of months and used it for setting saw blades . That's a very good tip your showing . I'm definitely going to make a tube/pipe jig for doing this . Cheers Brad 👍
Ainsley Rich Thanks a lot man! Not a bad use at all. I appreciate it! Yeah I recommend making your own. The ones they sale are super cheap. Except the billet one that’s out there.
Sweet tip. I have one of these meters from calibrating RC heli blade pitch angles. I'll be using this to index my lathe chuck!
Mo Bina the more expensive, the more accurate. Not a bad idea. For general fabrication it is more than accurate enough!
Awesome job as always Brad
jcb454 Thanks a lot man! I appreciate it. 🙏🏻 thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video . Already had the angle finder now I just need to make the holder
Brad, great tip. Where did you get the jig / tool that the digital angle finder was sitting / resting on?
Thanks Stan! You can pick up the little clamp from roguefab.com
I’d honestly recommend making your own.
Wow, that clamp from roguefab costs over $40.... I'm in the entertainment business and this is what I use to stick the angle finder onto tubing... less than $5

Brillant, thanks !
What I'd do is use the CAD to print out the flattened surface of the pipe with the centers marked and glue it to the piece to easily find where to cut/drill/etc
Alessio Sangalli that’s an easy way also.. for those who don’t know how to use cad or that don’t have time to run inside to jump on the computer.. this is an easy alternative that is just as fast. 👌🏻
HourGlassFab yeah I mentioned that specifically because you started the video by designing the piece on the CAD :)
Hi mate , nice video . What cad software are you using ? Cheers
What brand is that angle finder? Does the clamp come with it?
Are you shayspec?
1 1/2 OD is tube size.
Marcel Fortin you’re very correct. Pipe is measured by ID. I’m just not going to go into what the ID and wall thickness is for schedule 40 in that diameter for something that doesn’t really matter. Thanks for noticing though!
I'm a retired pipefitter of 40 years. When you said pipe size I perked up because most Fab Shops use tube sizes. In my career I have used 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2, 1 3/4 and 2" tubes in Industrial settings and 4 and 6" tube for message systems in commercial settings. Due to better steels pipe size is normally nominal in designation.
Where do I get the clamp for the angle finder?
A great tip. Thanks.
Mark Trombley Thanks Mark! I appreciate you watching.
Hey Brad , I've done this on several occasions works well , although it may take a while i would still love to save enough money to purchase one of those tilting indexing positioners with tail stock for my cheapish Chinese mill drill .But like everyone else i have other priorities that come first and mine is my Family My Awesome Wife and our 5yo son
Keep up the great work mate i really enjoy your videos i always learn something no matter how small or big it may be.
Cheers From Australia
Troy
Troy Morrison Hey Troy, you have been tuning in since the start! over 5 months ago when I started this channel. I really appreciate your continued support man. Thank you for watching.. and yes, an indexing positioner with a tail stock would be amazing. 😏
great tool!! thanks for sharing! keep up the vids!!!
StrongmanEvan thank you!
Hey Brad, I had an angle box for years. I never thought of using it the way showed here. That's great information only I can't find anything like the clamp you showed. Do you have any suggestion on where to look for one?
You can buy a really nice Cnc machined version from @randomfabrication on Instagram. Just shoot him a dm. His are great!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Have a wonderful day!
Thanks. The useful thing for me is that handy little clamp. I've been using an angle finder to make indexing plates for my wood lathe, but a little clamp like that will allow me to do more ad-hoc indexing. It's a win thanks.
Great work! Very nice editing.
Gabriel Schleder It was one of my rushed videos and was unsure about the edit. Thank you! I appreciate it. 🙏🏻
Great tips, thanks. Not sure why the cad drawing tho... Just to explain I suppose
Awesome dude its like a motion picture of fabrication badness! Keep it up and this stuff will be the moves to go see for the inclined future generations .
Epe Fab inclined future generations.. I like that. Let’s hope so! I appreciate your support man. Thanks 👊🏻
I came looking for the low down on angle finders and turn up at this fab porn! love it!
