  • A beautiful walk down to Berry Island, along the bush trails. A look over at the naval base, the coal loader, learning a bit about the local Cammeraygal people. HW even discovers some of their ancient rock carvings and learns about where they sourced food and water. Later a walk from North Sydney Station up through Greenwood Plaza.

    Hey HW....nice older homes at the start of your walk. Upfront cost and maintenance must cost a fortune! Great water view. Sounds like your Navy Clearance Divers could give us a hand clearing that bridge over here in Baltimore that collapsed. Thanks for the walk! Always something to do and see in your neck of the woods. Have a great weekend!

      I looked up that first joint I surveyed. Turns out it's a set of flats (condos), each $2million plus. Not sure how many are in there. Yes I was shocked to see that bridge collapse in Baltimore. I was viewing the footage while you were asleep no doubt. Yeh our divers would be good in that situation. Condolences to the families impacted.

    It's a very easy and pleasant walk. For some time about 40 years ago, we lived in a unit on the other side of the station and we'd go for a bit of a stroll around the harbour side of the station - quiet and peaceful.

      It’s a great spot. I always thought Wollstonecraft was just units. Those big houses blew me away. I enjoyed the walk and especially the history of the Cammerayagal people. Recommend all to take the walk when they can.

      @@hwtours Yes, you would not have been expecting that at all. Some of the big, old houses close to the station were converted many years ago into flats, then updated, converted to strata title, and sold for a very tidy sum.

      @@doubledee9675 My buddy who I visited in San Diego hails from Shirley Rd. But I rarely travelled past the station. Those big houses were an eye opener indeed.

    Interesting, enjoyed the walk and seeing the rock carvings. I’ve been to Sydney 5 times as a tourist, saw a lot but also a lot I’ve not seen.I’d not heard of Wollstonecraft or berry island, I’m always learning things from you. Thanks for another good video.

    Such a beautiful place , views and huge houses ❤thanks for the info about the aboriginals.
    Not me saying out loud be careful not to trip HW 😂, my partner did take me on a few bush walks when I was there. I must admit that I was quite focussed on NOT seeing snakes or spiders on those walks 😅, he had to reassure me a few times 😊. Thanks for the lil glimpse of North Sydney also. 😊You have a wonderful Easter holiday!

      Suburban yes. But so close to City. Always amazes me how much bushland surrounds Sydney Harbour.

    Hi HW,
    Berry Island was beautiful. Is Berry Island the original space or was it bigger, as there are houses built near it?
    We have something similar in Yorkshire, Rivelin Valley, which is a long nature walk full of trees, streams and one big pond where you can fish and catch frogs.
    It does need a good clean up, but on the whole, a lovely afternoon out.
    Just love the bush turkeys. Could we see some churches in Sydney? Churches, especially the older ones seem so interesting.
    Thank you for a lovely walk and wishing you a Happy Easter
    🐰🙏🐤

      It was originally a real Island, but they filled in the gap between the Island and the mainland. Basically that reserve I walked through was originally mud flats. It was given to the guy who Wollstonecraft was named after. Later the Govt took it back and made it parkland. Seeing you like Churches I will try to add some in for you in future walks. In Sydney the majority of older churches are Anglican and the modern ones Roman Catholic. Thanks for watching and happy Easter to you too.

    Sorry for a second reply, but another pleasant walk is to go through to Wollstonecraft and walk along Ball's Head Rd. Peaceful, reminiscent of a quiet Paddington with more space.

      I know it well. I spent a few years running through balls head every lunchtime from North Sydney. But haven’t done it on film yet. Maybe I’ll go and check out the carvings there one day. Thanks for mentioning.

      That Wollstonecraft should have been Waverton, the next station south. (Note to train fanatics - up and down are railway terms that have not been used on our line since a few months after it was opened. Up trains in fact run downhill from the terminus to the city and everyone, including railway staff, was confused. The simple terms "north" and "south" were adopted and have been used since.)

      @@doubledee9675 I like to say up the Northshore line to Hornsby and down the Northshore line to the City.

    • @doubledee9675
      @doubledee9675 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@hwtours I think that for one of your Northshores you mean the main Northern line. It's a pleasant and easy round trip. On the main Northern line, you can alight at one of the stations - we'd suggest Beecroft - have a look around the local shops, and have a cup of coffee.
      A bit of a curiosity. I know of only 3 stations served by Sydney trains which have no commercial activity. Denistone and Cheltenham on the main Northern line are 2 of these, and Warrawee on the North Shore line is the third. There are schools at Cheltenham and Warrawee, but nothing commercial

    • @hwtours
      @hwtours  5 месяцев назад

      @@doubledee9675 I call that one the main line given the fact that freight, Intercity and the XPT runs up it. You’re right Beecroft is a gem.
