I actually had a similar thought when filming this... but I think his lackadaisical play there was due mostly to his back injury, which forced him to call for the trainer and then retire the match. This was Young's second singles match of the day actually! Anyway, he's now ranked #50 in the world and I'm happy to see how he's improved.
@hi10spro Hahaha, I thought I told you, but maybe not.. Subscribe and don't miss another. ;) Thanks for the compliment. BTW, this challenger series in 2012 is moving to the Kailua Racquet Club for some reason. CORP had tons of parking, tons of courts, new resurfacing and then they go and move it to some place with limited parking. WTF?
I think your general point has some truth to it, but what you may not realize is this was Young's second singles match of the day (due to rain delays messing up the tournament schedule) and his back was hurt (he calls for the trainer at the end of this video).
Did not know that... Looks like he lost about 40 places after losing to Fed in the first round of the US Open. He had built up a lot of points from last years Open where he made it to the round of 16.
Honestly on that point where Russel had an "easy" smash and Young just stood there is his career in a nutshell. A champion like Nadal or Djoker wouldn't just stand off the court and let him smash it away. They would retreat and try to make a play off the ball. Fight for everything.
@darbocity Thanks! Yeah they are both shining this Open, esp Young. I was happy (and surprised) to see him beat Wawrinka in 5, and I think that gave him the confidence to beat Chela in 3! He's playing Murray next, who he beat earlier this year, but I think Murray is looking too solid right now. But I'll be rooting for Donald!
You stated that Djokovic does that a lot. I am saying that DJoker has an excuse to concede a smash. He is playing longer, more physical matches so if he were to let an overhead go to catch a breather, it would almost IMO be acceptable. D.Y on the other hand, has no room to be giving up like this.
@darbocity With the rain delay, looks like Donald has one more day to rest... and to think about it! I hope he goes in with the right attitude tomorrow. I'm picking Djoker to win the whole thing, but I'm actually rooting for Fed or Nadal. You?
@explodingpimp He did beat Murray at Indian Wells though, but I've read that it was only due to Murray feeling blue about losing the Aus Open. I think it'll go 4 sets, with Murray winning.
@hawaiidispenser there's rules about the amount of space behind the court and to the sides of the courts. i don't see how Krc is legal for the matches, but you know krc is going to have a massive party and look at the crowd out at corp. no one is there and i don't see sponsor signs or anything so you know krc would be mad sponsorships--they must have offered a great package
@hi10spro You're probably right, it's about the money (which is fine... that's how anything ever gets done). Although, this vid is from 2010, the first year of the challenger here, and in 2011 there were bigger crowds at CORP and more sponsor banners! So it was still growing. KRC must've offered better facilities for the players too. I remember seeing a bunch of top 250 players just cruising under a tent at CORP. So, is there a good place to park at KRC? You must have the scoops.. ;)
@hawaiidispenser hhahaha bro, you just go down to the church--if you come from kailua high school side, it's on the left about 3 blocks from KRC. if you come from Oneawa--Zippy's. i'ts on the right. dude, you just park your car on any side street and walk over :D come on! or donate to the tournament and get sponsorship passes
@bengtmartin Haha yeah, I hope to god the course of tennis for the future will change. All these new kids come in wearking rediculous clothes (if any at when they arent playing in tournaments) that think they are the shit. Tennis is also becoming a slug fest from 2 feet behind the baseline, if things do not shape up I think the last great rivalry I will ever personaly watch will be Federer and Rafa.
great footage - nice to see the older veteran hold his own!
bro you're not even telling me you're putting up these awesome videos
@MarinChilich Thank you, I love this low angle too and wish TV showed it more often. It really shows the power and spin of the ball much better.

Looks like the Sunrise Challenger. Same layout on the grounds.
amazing angle...great match

awesome vid! these guys played / are playing great this open!
what were your impressions of young? got game?
good upload!
Russell is beast...saw him get destroyed by Delpo in the past tho.

1:30 hey mr. russle, the hulk called and he wants his legs back

actually djokovic does that a lot. Especially in australian open 2012, but maybe because he was so tired

@MrTennisMenace Yes, but I believe he did take a set of Delpo at AUS Open 2010.

@hawaiidispenser agreed. hope it's titanic.
my mind tells me djoker but i have the hardest time betting against nadal. he's inspiring.

@hawaiidispenser crazy he beat stan! should be a good matchup with murray. we'll see how it goes. who's your pick to win it all?
Okay, but Donald is playing best 2 out of 3 sets not 3 out of 5 against Murray or Nadal.
If Young´s shirt was any longer he wouldn´t need any pants.
And now he's

You do know that Donald has a back injury here which caused him to stop playing tennis for weeks right?
You're so wrong.. Nadal Djok and Fed do it all the time
