  • The Sarawak My Second Home (S-MM2H) Program is a popular visa choice for many people looking to live in Malaysia. If you find that the standard MM2H program has unreasonably high requirements, the Sarawak MM2H visa might be perfect for you.
We look into the individual requirements of the program, including: Purchasing a home in Sarawak, enrolling children at school in Sarawak, or undergoing long-term medical treatments.
The requirements for the S-MM2H Visa vary between your age group, more on that in the video, but the My Second Home Program is great for those looking to move to Malaysia, retire in Sarawak (or most of Malaysia), and more.
Bear in mind, although the minimum stay in Sarawak is currently 30 days, this could change. If you intend to live outside of Sarawak, be wary of this loophole closing.

Hi guys, there's some updates to the S-MM2H eligibility criteria: Over 50s can provide proof of savings if they do not meet the income requirement. Also the 30-49 age group has been lumped together into one category.

      Thanks.
Does that mean savings can substitute for either the fixed deposit (150 000 MYR) OR the 7000 per month 'pension' requirement (ie, this is a third, independent option for over-50s?)?
(If so, how much savings does one need to show?)

There is so much back and forth about the either/and of income vs fixed deposit. I always wanted to live in Malaysia but the requirements are too high, then Sarawak requirements were attainable, then they decided to up the requirements to Fixed Deposit AND Income Requirement, now you say it is Fixed Deposit OR Income Requirement...I don't know who to believe!!!

Is this an either/or scenario here? You either need a monthly income of 10,000 ringgit for a couple OR the financial deposit of 300k ringgit in a Malaysian bank? Or do you need both?

Please believe in me, both of the above requirements are all over the Internet!

I think you need to deposit 150K into a fixed bank account, which you can then take out when you decide to leave permanently.
Bear in mind Sarawak/Kuching is "sleepy", almost like a provincial town.
I have a friend who went there (his rels are there) and said there's nothing to do...but each to their own I suppose.
Some people like the hustle and bustle of KL with a few million folks cramping around.
However its only a hop, skip and jump to the neighbouring ASEAN countries.

@@RUHappyATM Thank you for your comments. I want to live near KL but their MM2H is asking more than we can provide. We can do the deposit but monthly income is not possible since we were self-employed our pensions are too low. We asked Sarawak if they would accept more deposit instead of monthly income yet nobody replied.

      Yeah, I know.
The Peninsulas are dreaming if they think people with 40K RM per month would be spending that much...dining on lobsters every night, I suppose.
      Edit:
Average income in M'sia is 80K MYR.
They expect pensioners to have an annual pension of 480K MYR?
      LOL.

    • @gerrelldrawhorn8975
      @gerrelldrawhorn8975 Год назад

      It IS BOTH...since August 2022.
There is a Government website Https://www.mtcp.sarawak.gov.my that contains the updated provisions. Now you need both the FD And proof of income/pension.
This is much more similar to the Federal MM2H programme pre-2022. That rogram also required both ( it also required one to prove foreign assets...Sarawak still do snt. require proof of all foreign liquid assets, thank goodness). Sarawak does also offer lower amount requirements for singles than for married couples.
There were several applicants intent on applying but they had to reconsider because they changed the rule on short notice. The government seemed unaware that those retirees over 50 usually focus on one or the other of these retirement strategies...either investing in a savings account and stock/property OR putting money into an investment pension fund. They rarely do both. Thus the new requirements cut out about 50% of the previously eligible applicants.

Isn't it that the requirements have changed that you have to stayed ENTIRELY within Sarawak for the tenure of your MM2H visa?
That you are no longer allowed to stay elsewhere as before?
Heard stories about new MM2H applicants receiving their visa approvals but these approvals included a clause 2.6 within them that they have to stay exclusively in Sarawak during their visa period.
That to me basically render the SMM2H virtually pointless.

      @gerrelldrawhorn8975 Год назад

I've never heard of anyone being prevented on doing so...but there is a statement on the Letter of Conditional Approval stating that one cannot reside in West Malaysia. They are not, as of now openly enforcing the provision either by checking length of stay in West Malaysia, setting up check through points to issue limited passes into West Malaysia for the few SMM2H holders entering West Malaysia, restriction Ng property rental or purchase, etc.
Since it is a new requirement and only applicable to thos getting visas after November 2022 people would not be checked up on it was until November 2027 when they extend their visa. I guess we will see then.

Sarawak MM2H does allow investment for those over 50 provided you have a Sarawakian 51% partner. So unless you can set up a deal with a local then one cannot set up an independent biz. As well one is supposed to be a "silent partner" while management and day-to-day work is to be taken on by local staff.
Over 50 MM2H recipients can also do PT work...but only in certain sectors and with government approval. Generally one should have a degree, credential or work history that shows that unique and sought after skills.
There is the DERantau Digital Nomad 2 year visa for all ages. It's designed for those involved in offshore work of about $24,000 annual income.
Then there is the Labuan Offshore Business visa...which allows tax residence but whose terms are unclear to me.

I cannot give you an authoritative Financial requirement for the Sabah Program...it is Unofficially reported that the FD will be @RM200K...or US45,000. This was the number given by the Sabah Minister of Tourism in Feb 2023, but the news report was a mishmash. It wasn't clear if this was for a certain age group, if there was also an income minimum and if property purchase was mandatory.
