Can I just say, huge props to Theo for not pretending to be a know-it-all and actually listening, asking questions, and saying "okay" whenever he learns something new. Too few people do that these days
Yeah he's that influential and that well-connected by being unable to hold a conversation. And Joe Rogan chose him for to talk about this for no good reason.... Half of America thinks he's one of them. Myself included. He's showing everybody we should be asking the same questions with the same concern and disgust. Fox News is out. Those women with their Chanel jackets pontificating out loud, have no idea what they're talking about or who the average tiktok user is. I've never had tiktok. It's so bad.
As a kid I can remember ppl saying that computers were like giant spy devices to monitor you. I can remember thinking they were crazy and paranoid. Twenty some years later it's actually worse than what those ppl were saying.
I hear ya. It is the biggest mistake to think "things can't get that crazy." Evil is real and it festers in darkness. If this seems crazy, it's just the tip of the iceberg.
The military was listening to people through their microwaves a long long time ago, because it’s similar to radio waves, I figured if they can do that then they can use our TVs against us too.
I love how Joe explains things, he doesn't talk to the guest like they're stupid, he doesn't rub it in their face, he just explains it slowly and patiently.
Joe doesn't interview people though. His show has always been conversations. It's part of what people enjoy about it - sometimes he talks more, sometimes he talks less, all depends on the context and how inquisitive he's trying to be. I've noticed with his comedian buddies he tends to talk more but if he has an author or scientist on he's a lot more respectful of making sure they have time to share their thoughts etc. For all the flak he gets, he's a great conversationalist.
Whatever you say to Theo, he says “OK”, like he’s following. Then he changes the subject: “What do they do when people die over there? Do they bury them or do they not care?”
Got off Facebook over six years ago and never had Instagram, Twitter, and I'll be damned to allow myself to be dumbed down by TikTok. That app is making society more stupid by the hour.
Yet here you are on RUclips… nearly the same thing.. only difference is the videos have a time limit on tiktok. Imagine being so smooth brained that you think a video sharing app makes people dumb.
Good for you, as a fellow FB abandoner, if you read the ToS of other companies and apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. They collect this same information.
@@Keys879 I'm aware. I was talking with my wife the other morning about a coffee alternative called mud water. Later that day, she was scrolling through Facebook and there was an advertisement for it. She had never heard of it before I told her.
@James Page Its a very hidden form of addiction. They figured out how to get people, especially younger people, addicted to quick dopaminergic hits. Even if its' stupid, they keep swiping. YT shorts are no different.
Ditto! Left FB when creepy Joe had his sham inauguration and haven't been on since. Never had all that other crap either, never will. It's all garbage meant to rot your brain and get you hooked
I love to see this getting out to more people. I’m 20 and have been telling all of my friends since TikTok started that nothing good will come from it and I’ve always been skeptical of it. They’ve all called me crazy for it.
The TOS is all the exact same across most of the apps we use. That's not by accident. Tik tok only stands out because it is a Chinese owned company but it’s a small part of the bigger picture. Tencent is behind almost every app you use, including tik tok. They are large investors/part owners in pretty much every social media app/website. Tencent is also a Chinese owned company and under chinas new laws, they must share all there information with the government. This was all part of a bigger plan. Tencent is owned by the Chinese government, Tencent monitors everything we do through every app. It’s much scarier if you really look into it.
@@dankmatter3068 I’ve lived here for 10 years and I definitely would not say that. The government however is obviously shady and that’s no secret in any country.
They put it in TOS is the user fault for not reading it and just checking the check box . There a lot of other social media platform they do the same thing and not telling you, atleast tiktok is transparent
I appreciate a beautiful woman as much as the next guy but to me TikToc just seems like a bunch of THOTs dancing like strippers. Being hot is not a talent. I scrolled through looking for cool content and 70 percent of the submissions were girls dancing. I wanted a talent show but got a pg rated strip club. TikTok is a toxic cesspool with little redeeming qualities.
But strangely not about US ownership of their TikTok Global with almost all Americans on the board. Ev en Wwalmart has a stake. Just ask siri about American investment in TikTok.
The crazy part about it is that they're openly getting away with crime because people consent to this without realizing or caring in order to use the damn thing. What they're doing is completely legal, as criminal as it is. It's evil genius. The entertainment is not worth the cost of your privacy and likely others you are connected to.
Either I'm to stupid or to old (32) for tiktok. I once had it, for Like 3 days, it was so boring that i deleted it. Same with Snapchat, Twitter and Facebook. I Love Instagram for online Shopping tho, i've found Shops i wouldn't have found otherwise.

RUclips (obviously) is as far as I'll go as far as screwing around online is concerned. Keep your private info FAR AWAY from that online social media trash. Sorry, not sorry.
I spent like four days looking at it, during the first Covid issue. Once I saw how advanced the propaganda was, I immediately deleted it ! I’ll never pull it up again !
I'm shocked how we went from almost banning the app to now seeing their advertisements on TV, NBA Courts, etc. People doing stupid dances...the stupid "challenges" that people do and even end up dying...can't believe so many parents are okay with their kids on it...smh
One reason for collecting this much data about every person might also have something to do with analyzing consumer patterns, the people's political orientation and for tracking movement around the country. They can analyze the population's behavior in order to do better political decisions, or if they are trying to influence the population, they can analyze the data to see if their tactic works and the list goes on. I mean, the opportunities are endless if you know that much about a country and if you can influence its population using your nicely engineered social media app that gets everyone addicted.
Its called "parroting". Gets the information essentially said twice so the audience is more likely to have digested the information. Theo is not dumb. It's his character shtick that's he's very good at. Hes gotta play it. He repeats in different format or asks questions for confirmation to make sure the information is heard. Joe has a huge platform. He knows how to use it without getting canceled or sued. Most comedians are good at covert delivery of important information shrouded in jokes and naivete or self deprecation. George Carlin is The primary example.
Just goes to show how toxic and dangerous these apps really are then dont it. I myself am a parent. I have a 7 year old daughter who currently owns 2 tabs and a smart phone (without sim cards) that all contain apps that keep her glued to the dam things all hours of the day when she is not at school or eating her meals. Much to the disaproval of me... but her mother thinks this is all fine as its what all kids have/doo and if she didnt she would get bullied at school !? Yet my partners eldest girl (from a different relationship in the past) who just turned 19 cuts herself regular as clockwork but mutalating herself is not enough as she also walks around with no selfasteam her head constantly down (some times even at the dinner table) grew up the same way... But i digress, my daughters situation is ok as its normal and just because i dont use fb any more or any other social media apps other than youtube and whatsapp im just out of touch and need not be concerned with things i dont use or approve of. Long story short i often argue with my partner over this subject. Boils my piss lol...

Do you have any idea how many "front" corporations US agencies have in other countries, including China??? DARPA/CIA created the internet. They created all of the social media platforms including Google, Instagram, Alphabet, etc., Amazon & more to surveil and manipulate the public. Of course they want ALL of our data in order to target citizens who resist the tyranny of the federal puppets put in charge by the corporate/banking elites. China, nor Russia is an enemy. In fact, they collaborate with the US to profit the elites and politicians along with the countless private corporations and banks profiting from weaponizing viruses/pathogens, drugs, vaccines, the highly toxic 5G proliferation, as well as those who are part of the military industrial complex. ALL media is controlled by agencies. While this site does provide accurate information, the bigger picture is never addressed; thus, this is controlled opposition like Project Veritas and others. Meanwhile, as they collect data, they continue whitewashing or deleting sites with evidence of crimes against humanity involving US govt while funding fake "documentaries", websites, and mainstream media to push their lies and propaganda. Considering the trail of bodies (researchers, doctors, witnesses, victims, reporters/journalists, mil personnel, whistleblowers, etc.), it is also much safer for Roman to stick to the narrative.
Same. Truly a genuine person and naturally funny storyteller. I will never forget the time he told the story about him locking himself out his apartment high on coke at 3/4 AM with his blender going off and him having to knock on his landlords door 😂😂
People really underestimate how much you can do with enough data on a person. First of all, think of ALL the things you've searched. It could be medical conditions, curiosities, sexual interests, whatever. That's one thing they would snatch up. Next, there's a common use for big data, that is to combined all data on you to make a profile, like a digital version of everything you think, do, want etc. Major corporations usually use that for advertising (Let's put aside the morality of that for now). Now, all that data tracking everything about you, knowing how to make you tick, how to play into your fears, what you want to hear, what you don't... ALL of that can be used to create algorithms. Those algorithms will then be used to MANIPULATE you in every way in everything you do. Most people have NO clue just how much manipulation they are exposed to on a daily basis. And to think of that being in the hands of an authoritarian regime, whose stated goals are to control everything and everyone. To overwhelm the democratic countries and to extend their ideas and authority into the world. THAT IS FUCKING FRIGHTENING.
Not just TikTok but all social media can change your mood, thoughts, beliefs, ideals, etc by what it feeds you. I believe the biggest effect is distraction…
Very true. Sadly Google has already been doing it for our own government, for years. One of the founders tried to cover up the fact that they can track every search made, for years. Long enough that when it was revealed, no one cared.
Haha I was thinking the same thing. This guy seems like an airhead. "You talkin' bout flip phones?"..... "Why do they wanna spy on us though?".... where is this dude from? Lol
Please have one episode with an expert going over every major social medias privacy policies to expose every social medias “Privacy Policies” and explain how each is vulnerable to give everyone a chance to wake up to the freedoms they give away. It is in no way limited to TikTok unfortunately.
If they did that you'll be seeing many familiar US companies in that list. Every company that provides a "free" version tracks your info to earn from you.
there is a diffarance between the data. both USA and china uses your Data for evil but China is just the bigger evil of the two. while USA has to atleast atempt to follow human rights laws. china has no such obligation att all.
@@rampage3337 what is the connection with human right laws. This is more about not letting China collect data on their people through TikTok. The US doesn't bother as long as they are the ones collecting your data.
The data they collect can also be used to reverse engineer someones 2 factor authentication. Which is especially dangerous if they target high level government employees.
I'm sure one of their main targets it trying to acquire all data on quantum computing developments and encryption considering the power and speed of such devices to process data and protect info.

what Theo is talking about when he describes the "abandoned" high rises are not actually abandoned at all but properties that were built in anticipation of high real-estate demand because owning property is one of the few things the Chinese people can do to invest into retirement. They are having a huge housing crash similar to our 2008 right now and thats why they are parking tanks in front of banks... people are trying to pull their money out and they are defaulting on loans on purpose as a means of protest. Things are getting pretty crazy over there. RUclips tries to censor a lot of the videos about the topic or demonetize/age restrict. Keep talking about it boys :)
They over produced real estate/infrastructure to inflate their GDP and yes the investing in real estate in china is what all the rich do. It's one of the few things they have control over

As a seasoned software engineer: Tik Tok is one of the absolute BEST pieces of software ever invented. It's resilient, it never goes down, there are never any issues with the app, flawless business model & it's incredibly addicting. You just keep scrolling and scrolling and scrolling until you find the next video that can give you that dopamine rush you're looking for. Talking from experience - this is no different than sniffing coke. Once you bag is done, you call the dealer to get another bag in order to feel that rush of dopamine that you felt when you sniffed for the first time that day. Yes, I sniff coke occasionally (not proud of it) and I'm telling you this no different from using the app. Also, just to make things clear: Tik Tok isn't the only app that steals all of your info. 99% of iOS and Android apps do the exact same thing but they're more discreet about it. The difference between those apps and Tik Tok is that Tik Tok is very addicting while the other app aren't at all which why you never hear about the other apps. IMO, Tik Tok is a very, VERY dangerous drug and it should be labeled as such. Trump did the right thing when he said he wanted to get rid of it. It's seriously damaging the development of children at a pace and at a caliber mankind has never witnessed before while the company cashes in their billions of dollars.
How do you know TikTok isn’t as invasive as it’s made out to be? Is it as invasive as Facebook was during its golden era of ads, more so, or less so? If you have the answers
This is a perfect example of two guys in the same room having two completely different conversations. One's talking about cell phones the other ones talking about a gas station
Wrong. Not even close lol... Most apps just collect superficial data for ad purposes, they don't have fucking keyloggers and other spyware, adware, trackers or web beacons LITERALLY BUILD INTO THEM like TikTok does...
fun fact: facebook knows almost all of your browsing history and activity on websites... even without an account or having ever having visited facebook. how? you know that "like on fb" or "share on fb" button on websites? those buttons actually run a script that reports back to fb info about your activity. and it's been figured out how to generate a digital "fingerprint" of your device just by visiting a website, so even if you never visited facebook, moved to a new country, cleared your all your browsing data... they can still theoretically match you to a private, auto-generated profile of you. unless multiple people use your device, not sure how that'd work but i'm sure they have something figured out for that.
I did the same, but I realized the other day that I use the free version of AVG which for sure tracks my shit, and not to mention all the other various apps. It's got to be nearly all of them at this point. I'm not too sure what the solution is.

5:55 before I go any further. As a retired electronic technician I can co-sign what he just said. Not just their phones but Bluetooth dongles and services as well. 1 Bluetooth service (headsets) was introduced in the US market widely in late 2003 early 2004. However it's been available since 98/99 but consumers couldn't buy it. BUT what they didn't know was the other services such as audio gateway, object push, file transfer, modem, monitor, and keyboard services all where available and active without one's knowledge. This was Bluetooth VS 1.0. I trained the very 1st Data Support Team for Cingular Wireless aka AT&T. Huawei phones had so much going on in the background it was just crazy and consumers never knew. The range of frequency was/is actually very impressive, tapping into Not only GSM but CDMA and even TDMA and Analog. Cingular Wireless and Nokia offered a phone that would do both TDMA and GSM, model 6340 (if I remember correctly) and was very proud of it. I just laughed. What is being sold NEW in stores today is so far outdated it's ridiculous.
Yep I know you`re not lying because most people don`t know the technology that is sold in Apple iphones today as the next best thing were in fact invented in the late 80`s. It wasn`t that popular back in the 0`s because BOll Gates was so big he put Steve Jobs pretty much out of business, but Microsoft got sued by the government Antirust department for being too big in the 90`s, he had to ask Steve Jobs to come back into business so Microsoft would be under the 30% threshold requirement.
Did you ever use Bluetooth 1.0? It was terrible and barely worked. All those things you listed are called Bluetooth profiles (see wikipedia), and just because the phone/device advertises it doesn't mean it can do much with it (and software was so primitive back then it didn't work). A flip phone was just becoming the "cool" thing in 2003... HSP, HFP, DUN, OPP, FTP were the more common Bluetooth profiles (I managed to get DUN working a couple times to tether to a laptop in 2003). The most advanced thing phones had in 2003 was support to play MP3s and no one cared if you stole that because it was already stolen from Napster/Kazaa/Limewire. Thanks for making me feel old!
Yeah the Huawei phones were absurd. My father in law got one without a clue what he was buying. First time I had seen them so I looked into them and showed him everything I was pulling up… phone was immediately destroyed and a new one was purchased lol. Strange times we live in.

1:35 it doesn't really mean they can suck data off your other computers but it does give them the right to associate the information on the devices that you log in with to other devices that you may not have used for TikTok if they for whatever reason have collected that data through a third party source or through logging I previously. Essentially they can compare your behaviors on your different devices. So essentially any device that you used to log into tick tock they have full access to everything about that device and all of your personal files. And they also have the right to compare any of that information to any other devices that you've used to log into Tic Tac in the past or information on other devices they may have acquired through outside sources.
All this is in the hands of the CCP. An organization that has enslaved and killed the innocent Chinese people and has plans to spread to other global civilizations.
I don't see how what you're saying is different to what Joe said. If you have ever logged into Tik Tok on a device, they instantly have anything they want from it, wether it be data about usage of the app or unrelated external files on the device. That's what you're saying right?
I don't think he's blowing it out of proportion. He's scared of the slippery slope...there's a reason we value privacy. The fact that it's standard and mostly unused doesn't really address the issue...
As a developer, it’s useful to troubleshoot and diagnose issues easier. Ex, app crashes, is it device specific, how did it happen, any specific characters that we may not support or formatted correctly. I haven’t thought of any useful cases to use that data, but in malicious hands it could most definitively be used to undermine someone.
The end goal is to use private information "data" to predict human behavior in order to have complete control over living men, women and children. Ultimately to control thought.
@@swoops41 yes that's today's reasonable excuse, but think about where this type of data collection goes over the next 30 years with constantly improving supercomputers and AI.

I love Joe so much because he gets the information out there. It's a public service!I learned more about covid during the lock downs and how to take care of your body from a virologist he had on in comparison to anything I heard from the main stream media during that same time.
I think Joe has good intentions, but in some cases he tends to not be informed enough on what hes talking about and winds up fear mongering of inadvertently spreading misinformation. With this example in particular some of what hes saying regarding privacy policy isnt correct or is unintentionally misleading.
It’s not just Tik Tok I believe it’s even apps made here in the U.S people just don’t read the TOS including me. There’s a reason why they make the Terms of Service and Conditions so long because nobody will think of reading it they’ll just click through it.
I read the terms of service. As a result, I don't even have banking apps. That being said, I've never had fraudulent activity on any of my payment methods. I work in billing. The number of people who have frequent fraudulent activity on their accounts is terrifying.
All apps. There is a race going on between corporations. Sorry, not race. It's a war. The war of information. It's been going on since 90s, and now it's more dangerous because now they can track everyone and anyone 24/7.
Absolutely. The money big tech makes on the actual products they sell is basically nothing compared to the money made from the data they collect. Why do you think Elon bought Twitter? He needs the data to develop his AI and he needs it uncensored.
I've been an enterprise software developer for almost 10 years. TikTok's terms are not uncommon. Google, Facebook, Apple, and other popular apps collect this this data as well. The part that stuck out to me is the conspiracy that the app was created to collect your data. I'm certain upon it's inception the app did not collect this type of data, but as it gained popularity the company saw an opportunity to begin collecting and monetizing user data as an additional revenue stream. Most popular apps do the same thing because it is profitable. To reiterate, if the app/service is "free" then profits are being generated from something whether you are aware of it or not.
Pretty sure the end goal for the app probably was to collect and sell data. They probably weren't sure of the success of the app at first, and had no reason to implement that data collection. But, I am pretty sure they had that on the trello board lol.
The algo for TikTok is something else, its very powerful. People forget TikTok was not the first, i would love to see Vines Terms of Service for eg, or even Snapchat Also, the keystrokes, is for heatmaps. I dont think TikTok can see keystrokes etc outside of it. But eh i could be wrong. Never doubt the Red Dragon.
This is why folks label Joe a conservative shill. He either doesn't know that this is common among many popular apps (and never bothered to check), or he does and is pushing someone else's narrative.

You nailed it. George Orwell was right. Frightening.
It’s not just China tho. Instagram,RUclips etc are all known for their algorithms + selling data to the government etc
Not just TikTok but all social media can change your mood, thoughts, beliefs, ideals, etc by what it feeds you. I believe the biggest effect is distraction…
Basic mind control
Very true. Sadly Google has already been doing it for our own government, for years. One of the founders tried to cover up the fact that they can track every search made, for years. Long enough that when it was revealed, no one cared.

what Theo is talking about when he describes the "abandoned" high rises are not actually abandoned at all but properties that were built in anticipation of high real-estate demand because owning property is one of the few things the Chinese people can do to invest into retirement.

Never touched tiktok. Deleted FB, IG etc, over 5 years ago. Blows me away the information people are just willing to hand out.
The moment you bought your phone you started handing out information.
fun fact: facebook knows almost all of your browsing history and activity on websites... even without an account or having ever having visited facebook. how? you know that "like on fb" or "share on fb" button on websites? those buttons actually run a script that reports back to fb info about your activity. and it's been figured out how to generate a digital "fingerprint" of your device just by visiting a website, so even if you never visited facebook, moved to a new country, cleared your all your browsing data... they can still theoretically match you to a private, auto-generated profile of you. unless multiple people use your device, not sure how that'd work but i'm sure they have something figured out for that.

@@andreivilla9009 that's what I suspected and am appreciative of you
I don't think he's blowing it out of proportion.
You don't ACCIDENTALLY provide yourself with all of those highly specific legal loopholes without a reason.
The end goal is to use private information "data" to predict human behavior in order to have complete control over living men, women and children. Ultimately to control thought.

"I'm trying to think of what I'm wondering"
*Joe snickers*
Joe really does share his stash with his guests. What a guy
Yeah but Theo isn't really the brightest star out there.
Yeah I was waiting for him to drop a bombshell but it just sounded like standard TOS for these tech companies.
Pretty sure the end goal for the app probably was to collect and sell data. They probably weren't sure of the success of the app at first, and had no reason to implement that data collection. But, I am pretty sure they had that on the trello board lol.
The algo for TikTok is something else, its very powerful. People forget TikTok was not the first, i would love to see Vines Terms of Service for eg, or even Snapchat
Also, the keystrokes, is for heatmaps. I dont think TikTok can see keystrokes etc outside of it. But eh i could be wrong. Never doubt the Red Dragon.
But, do Google, fb, and Instagram run your data to the ccp. 🇨🇳
This is why folks label Joe a conservative shill. He either doesn't know that this is common among many popular apps (and never bothered to check), or he does and is pushing someone else's narrative.
