I had mixed feelings with The chapeltown rag, Yen and The dying song, but after a couple weeks, ALL of them became very frequent songs for me.
After listening through the tracks a dozen times now, only Finale really hit me immediately, but I am almost certain the rest will follow soon. It‘s an album that has to grow on me, I think, and as I often say, my long term favorite songs are often those I didn‘t like at first.
This video was uploaded at the same time Slipknot started streaming the new album! Crazy!
I think it's a pretty good album, but I think that a lot of the fans are not ready for the surprises on this album.
This is such a weird album and that’s why I totally adore it
Hahaha no way! I tried uploading it before and it bugged out for some reason so had to re-upload it. Excellent timing then I guess haha! I definitely agree, a lot of fans just want Iowa and self titled all over again but I really think that this record stands on its own two feet for sure. Thanks for checking out my friend!
I thought it was great! I will always take experimentation and trying something new over anything. I also think it’s a perfect gateway album if you are first getting into the band. It’s definitely a grower album. Warranty, Finale, De Sade and Hive Mind are some huge standouts.
"adderall"is the worst intro song. the album would have started with "the dying song"
Hey Peter! Well, really if you think about it, I think that Adderall is a great track because it sets the tone for what's to come. It's very unexpected and easily the most experimental thing that the band have done. I might be biased because I love Prog though and Radiohead and it reminds me of both of them haha - still though, what did you think of the rest of the record?
Nah man, it’s a great opener
Agreed, I listened to the album about 4 times so far. Adderall is really bad
I prefer it like this:
1. Hive Mind
2. The Chapeltown Rag
3. The Dying Song
4. Yen
5. De Sade
6. Warranty
7. H377
8. Medicine for the Dead
9. Acidic
I bet my whole life savings that this album is gonna be appreciated more in the future
I wasn’t expecting an Iowa 2, but Clown really needs to stop calling every album the heaviest Corey’s sounded since the self titled album. There are songs like H377 and the early releases that I love upon first listen. Adderall I was surprised with, and I needed to listen to again immediately before I went through the rest of the songs.
I definitely need to listen to the whole album again, but I know in the future there will be songs I’ll probably be tempted to skip if they come up in my playlist
I also agree with you man, all of the hyperbole that can often go on top of promoting a brand new album can be a little detrimental at times. Still though, the fact that there are several songs that you're still really enjoying is a great sign eh! Maybe there might be some more over time, but I know what you mean. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and I hope you enjoyed it!
I liked it. Could have been called “Subliminal Versus:Part Two” reminded me very much of that album.
Ooh that could have been cool eh! Like a small nod to Vol 3 but also different enough. I also think that Jay and V Man really make a stake to have some real identity on this record too and aren't just hired guns you know? At the end of the day, it's just a new sound for the band and I'm here for it! Thanks so much for checking the video out though, really means the world!
@@TheMetalTris Absolutely man, Great review!
Expect VOL 3 was a good album
@@TheMetalTris jay is the fn man only guy that could replace Joey and nvr thought a nonoriginal member would b my fav.
How does this remind you of vol 3? I have heard this comparison by a few people and can't hear it at all. It just sounds like the music they've made since .5
Vocals, structure, riffs and all
This album is a collection of songs that didnt make the cut on all albums before....maybe 2 decent songs on this. I understand that they are getting older and times change but this album is horrendous
Horrendous. Now that's a good band.
@@LoyaltotheNightsky That is a VERY good band! Idol was such a great record right? Hopefully we might get some new material before long eh!
Which ones are those two decent songs? And that's totally fine! Everyone has got their own opinion which is what makes this kind of thing so interesting to me, especially when there's a record as divisive as this one you know? Lots of interesting thoughts which I love!
I agree man. this album is BY FAR their worst and its not even close. didn't expect much here but somehow knot still disappointed.
Nah this album is amazing lol
hi metal Tris another superb in depth review love your style... I love this album especially the real heavy tracks ... Great work mate and thank you .🤘🤘
In my opinion, The End, So Far are another experimental album just like Vol. 3, its not a great album but its also not a bad album. Some songs may sound like "heavy blues" style but it also got some "brutally heavy" song. My fav track so far are the dying song, the chapeltown rag, yen and hive mind. I agreed that this album need more time to listen.
Bro come on..its a bad album. Im a huge Slipknot fan and i can admit that its not good
@@ryanburrier4883 youre not the only huge slipknot fan here😅😁 ive been listening and buy all of their stuff for the rest of my life, but just like i said we all got our own opinion and i know some may say its a bad album.. i agreed some of the songs sound bad, but we should appreciate the other songs too.. give it a time😁
@@aeronmcateer1373 wasnt saying that i was the only Slipknot fan here...just that even as a fan i can admit its not good. It is just my opionion...ill give you that. And i hope you're right with saying give it time..hoping it grows on me
I think you're very right. When I think back to Vol 3 , it didn't quite hit me immediately, aside from the classics of like Before I Forget and Duality but for me, a product of the Kerrang! age, those two songs were like drilled into my psyche because I had seen them so much! It was mad haha
Anyway, it sounds like you're being pretty open minded about this one which I think is great! Hopefully it really grows on you as it did me but thanks all the same for checking out the review!
This is def a mid tier slipknot record
The introduction with Adderall is a true evidence for selling out.
The whole album is getting ruined by Corey's terrible singing.
They've truly forgot who they are are and where they come from.
How can fans enjoy this?!
I dont know . Maybe 2 tracks on the album ile be listening to in future an that's H377 and De sade
They want to try and make themselves like it knowing damn well it's a chore to. All I know is I didn't have to listen to Sic 10x over to like it
I think its one of their best albuns, I love the fact they completely came out of the Comfort zone and made something so daring,an album you gotta hear more than once just to understand wtf just happened
I couldn't agree more. It's nice to have some experimental elements and not hear the same old Slipknot and in truth, I think that WANYK start that a little bit but just wasn't quite as slick as this one you know? Thanks for checking the video out all the same though and I hope you enjoyed it!
@@TheMetalTris 100% agree with you there, I think the experimental tracks in WANYK were very hit or miss, and they've applied all the lessons they've learned from this album into The End, so Far to make the perfect blend between familiar and unexpected sounds. I absolutely love it.
You have to listen to it more then once to figure out what happened because it's so unorganized and discombobulated. It literally sound's like 9 member's just getting in eachothers way. They've managed to make the 9 member's work for their entire discography but somehow with this one alot of sections just sound messy.
@@Remmy0930 Extremely rushed maybe? I think it sounds like pretentious bull crap!
I actually enjoyed this more than I thought. The experimentation really pays off. Its a bit disjointed at times but the atmosphere and moodiness are great on some songs, they are more mature than their young selves.
Did you enjoy an abstract illusion?
I know right?! I think it's just one of them where you've just got to press play and see where it takes you right? So I listened to a tiny bit of An Abstract Illusion yesterday for like one minute and it sounded promising but I have got so much stuff that people are recommending to me that I'll definitely take some more time and sit with it properly. Thanks for checking the video out!
these feel like actual orchestra pieces but with metal instrumentation, imo its pretty cool just not the normal slipknot we always hear
WOE is my AOTY so far. It's Incredible.
@@JetRed_7
It's up there with me too. The way the album ebbs, flows and cascades is unreal. Once tear this holy mountain finishes you know you're listening to something special.
U speaking truth son
Definitely felt some prog and experimentation in this album, as a whole it was different, especially Adderall, I was thrown off for how different it was, but after the 2nd listen to the album, I caught on
Hey that's great to hear! And good to know that I'm not alone in thinking that there was a Prog vibe on this one as well haha - what did you think of De Sade and Finale? Those two also felt quite Proggy to me as well!
Acidic and Finale are my fav songs on this record. Theses songs are simply amazing !
Great review (as always). Enjoyed it on first listen but there's a lot to unpack so it will definitely need a few spins before I can really wrap my head around how good I think it is. Although that first track does not sound like Slipknot at all haha.
I've been on the journey from the beginning with these guys. Not a huge fan, but I know most of their stuff, and have had the privilege of seeing them a few times over the years, mostly in the early 2000's. What are certain people hearing that I'm not? There are some killer riffs and songs on this. I just went nuts hearing Yen for the first time. Adderall was a weird opener at first, but I'm a prog dude and don't mind it at all. Get over yourselves people, enjoy new music.
Their weakest album so far, I was very bored
I've listened to it and I dare say it's one of the WORST albums of Slipknot's career. A lot of recycled and ill-fitting ideas. An extremely lazy, generic, predictable and disposable job. Horrible!
I just really liked Yen.
Yen is great. I’ll atleast agree with you there
I'm still mixed on this one. Given it a few trys and it's very different and some of it is great but it's not hitting me straight away.. I think you're right though I need time with this
For sure man, definitely give it a bit of time. I've had roughly about two weeks of listening to this pretty much at least twice every day to make sure that I got a good enough understanding of it. I also read multiple features of what the band were doing and interviews to get more of a feel for it. It's definitely a grower for sure, let me know what you think though. I love records like that man haha
Very dissatisfied..worst album yet
Oh wow! Worst album yet! That's a pretty hefty title, what made you say that?
@@TheMetalTris I'm a lifelong slipknot fan since 99 to me this is a very odd slipknot album..when I think of slipknot I think of 9 guys in masks making music that's is hard fast heavy and just metal...to me this album just different and not hard at all..I mean it has its moments but it just doesn't do it for me like self title or iowa..I kept hearing this albums gona be Iowa 2.0 ....I don't hear that..do u?
@@yojoeits420 Oh no, not at all! I don't think that it's like Iowa 2.0 in the slightest but I also, in all honesty, don't think we're ever going to get to that point. It was a sign of the times, the culture, the moment really and I just think that the landscape has changed forever when it comes to that.
Still though, for what it's worth, this album is absolutely killer just for it's own reasons you know? I had to kind of let go of the idea of what Slipknot 'is' so to speak you know?
Oh my god - I didn't even have this release on my radar! I will totally check that out. I am a huge fan of their albums Subliminal Verses and All Hope Is Gone - so maybe not the typical Slipknot fan, I guess. And I can't strees it enough: I enjoy your reviews a lot. There is just something about the way you talk about themes, songwriting and production. I was wondering: Do you play or even write music yourself?
Hey there Robert! Oh man, well then I reckon that you'll really like this one then, especially if you really liked Vol:3 and AHIG, Vol3 is my favourite record of theirs and AHIG is a bit of a weird one but there are some really really great moments on there.
Thanks so much dude!! That's so awesome, where is it that you're based? If you're ever in London let me know and we'll hang out! As for your question about me, I do play guitar and went to ICMP for one year so there's a little bit of theory here and there and was in a band for like 4 years when I was 15 - 19 but haven't played in a band for ages and now I usually just play Tool songs on guitar haha!
Thanks so much though for the kind words though man, means the world truly.
@@TheMetalTris Oh man, hanging out would be cool. I live in Germany though. But I will let you know if I should ever visit London :)
This album while being different is still a 4/5 for me. Some like this album some don't...
I started liking the album with each track.
I would definitely go back to it. I have my favorite tracks on the album more than others, but overall a good 4/5 for me..
Ngl, Adderal is awesome. It’s the most non SlipKnot song SlipKnot has ever done. It works…surprisingly well.
I like The Dying Song and Hivemind but the rest, after a few plays, I will probably never play or listen to again. Fair play to them for experimenting but i feel they're just 'masking' (see what i did there) the fact that they're out of ideas on how to make a great Slipknot album. PS. I loved We Are Not Your Kind.
Hahaha I love the pun work there my friend, nicely done. I can understand that you would feel like that and honestly, that's the great thing about music isn't it!
At the end of the day, everyone has very different opinions about all sorts of stuff and where I prefer TESF to WANYK you prefer that! I love having conversations like this though because you get to see different perspectives and in truth, I think that an album should be divisive otherwise, it's just not that polarising and the band aren't moving forward, in my opinion at least!
Love Slipknot, but really didn't enjoy the album as much as their others.
This album fucking blows
Personally I think this is their best album since All Hope Is Gone.
Album was caca just because we're die hard maggots doesn't mean we're gonna like everything they put out.
I think overall its their heaviest album since iowa and their most successful attempt at experimentation yet. I went in assuming I was not gonna like it one bit..was a bit surprised. Keep up the awesome reviews tris!!
Hey there Dale, well thanks so much for the kind words. That really means a lot to me. I actually think after really going through the album, you might be right you know. WANYK had songs like Spiders / Orphan / My Pain / Not Long For This World as well. I love it when that happens though and you really get somewhat of a gem out of something that you thought was going to be a big of a dud you know? Thanks so much for the kind words again!
Funny.
Heavy? Hahaha that’s a good one
@@OdinsSon22 Maybe heavy for being pop music!
Slipknot turned into pop metal and it's just embarrassing...
I'm so disappointed....
It’s slipknot. So I’ll love anything they put out. I just don’t love how all the instrumentals sound like they were put through a Slipknot generator. Like. This is a slipknot riff. These are slipknot notes. Here’s a slipknot song
Now that they’re independent I hope they take time for their next album and create some new and iconic and unique instrumentals like they used to be so good at
Ah Tris. I've been holding back on this album. The last two albums from Slipknot have done nothing for me at all. Sure, they're ok. But I rarely if ever, go back to them. Vol III was always my fav. closely followed by Iowa. I may give this a go, but I'm sure it will be with some trepidation.... anyway, as always a great review. Take care buddy! S.
I definitely agree with you on the last couple. AHIG had some great moments on there and birthed some real classics ‘Sulfur’, ‘Psychosocial’ but then ‘The Devil In I’ is a big favourite of mine but the rest of the record fell by the wayside. Same with WANYK - some great tunes but overall just not something I have gone back to.
This one however, because I loved Vol 3 so much, I think I will be coming back to. Especially, Hivemind / Warranty / De Sade / Finale and Heirloom which is a large portion of the record. Intrigued to see what you make of it when you do listen to it though!
I just cant get into it. Lots of build ups then everything has a very mediocre following. Choruses arent catchy. I love this bad, been listening since 99’. This is the one album that i just cant dig. Is what it is.
Couldnt agree more man. I think i was trying to force myself into liking this album but i just cant get behind it.
Fair enough man! My honest advice would be to just sit with it for a while and don't form an opinion too early on. I genuinely thought that it was crap when I first heard it and now I think that it's better WANYK and possible better than 5. but there are some serious bangers on that album haha - thanks for checking it out all the same!
@@TheMetalTris it’s their best work since AHIG
It lacked everything that I expect from a Slipknot album, it felt like I was listening to a completely watered down rushed album, it’s basically all singing, the lyrics really weren’t what I’d expect coming from someone like Corey who almost always crushes it lyrically… riffs were pretty soft, drums really weren’t anything special… barely any of the Slipknot sounds we all know and love, they started the album with a slow song rather than a twisted creepy intro to the album like (515) xix, insert coin… I so badly wanted this to be a good album and I hate to say it but This is by far the worst Slipknot album yet… No I don’t need another Iowa (although that would be amazing) but I would like to hear what made Slipknot the band they are… and more than 1 heavy song on the album.. this is slipknots st anger. Glad they left roadrunner and I hope the next album kills it.
Need to listen a couple of times I think
Absolutely, it's one of them isn't it you know? Just take a little time and listen to it over the next week or so and it might grow on you. I remember the first listen I was very underwhelmed but it's really got under my skin. More so that Gray Chapter and WANYK
@@TheMetalTris I really enjoyed the last album ,I'll always be a fan no matter what
I haven't listened to the whole thing I kind of just skimmed around, out of 10 I'd give it about a 5 or 6
For me, yen is the only song on the album that i dont like at all, but I think it's a good album. It has some bangers, but you just have to wait to grow on you just like the previous one. Give it time, fellows.
Also it's incredible how early the video came. The analysis is on point and detailed as always. You are for sure my favourite reviewer. Best regards and much appreciation
Well first off thank you so much for all of the kind words! It means the world truly. I always love reviewing records and I know that I am mostly very positive and probably not all that negative but I just like featuring bands whose releases that I enjoy haha
So the reason this video came so early is that I was very fortunate to have been sent the record a while ago and have been listening to it extensively. I've probably listened to it at least over 15 times to get an accurate feel for it. I also think that it's not too long either which allows for you to come back it more. It's definitely grown on me even more and more the longer time that I've spent with it so my worry is that a lot of people will just dismiss it after the first listen. Sounds like you're a fan of it which is great!
Next up is Lamb of God for next week, can't wait to put that video together thanks again for all of the help!
Yes, a very different album from Slipknot. I like some of the songs, but as a whole, this is my least favorite release from them. My previous least favorite was All Hope Is Gone, even though I liked the majority of that album.
I think adderall was off the looking out your window sessions
Nü SlipKnoT (SUX)
Just kinda boring to me I like yen though
Whole album sucks besides Yen. Which is......Okay
I mean the last 3 albums for me are very mid
@@bobbydobby3010 i wish i didnt agree but i have to be honest...the album is cookie cutter bullshit
@@blackcraft3465 wanuk was had some good tracks vol 5 was okay but too slow in some parts
You know the weird thing is that I wasn't all that big of a fan of Yen, I think it's actually the only track that I didn't mention in the review haha - still though there's a huge amount to really gleam from this record but I do agree that it takes time. Give it a little more go's and see what you feel :) - thanks for checking out the video all the same though! Means the world
Everyone wants Iowa 2 get over it u gotta change thays y they r still here dint know if it's as good as last but def good some great songs some still have to let sink in
mmm this album was Meh for me. The gray chapter was better.
For me its meh. Neither good nor bad
Shit I enjoyed Warranty, De Sade, Medicine for the Dead, Hive Mind (chorus sucks), H377. Rest of it was ass.
The album is so bad, it makes me appreciate WANYK so much more.
Hey that's fair enough, I still can't quite get my head around that record. There are moments that were great but overall this one is just a little bit better for me personally!
@@TheMetalTris I don’t know man, maybe I need to run threw it again, but as of now nothing at all stuck with me. Even from what Jim Root said, you can see this wasn’t their best effort.
Hopefully they crapped this out of their system and they can move on.
Not impressed...at all .... 2 maybe 3 songs that are deascent.the rest has too much of a stone sour vibe! . When they said it was gonna be like Vol3 & iowa.. I was expecting songs like. Sic, surfacing, people=s. Blister exist, pulse of the maggot. ... where did de sade, heirloom. Finale. Acidic. Adderall. H377. Come from ????
Long live stoneknot /slipsour I guess !
Hahahaha Stoneknot! I love that. Totally get what you mean in the fact that it's very different to both Iowa and Vol3 but that's why I think I really like this one, because of that change you know? At the end of the day, this band are always going to be very divisive but I think it's cool. Thanks for checking the video out all the same though, means the world!
This album is garbage I wouldn't have released it
It's their best album. It hits different
Ur smoking Crack bro...this hits different cause it's trash compared to the first 2 albums
SLIPKNOT the best of the best band and THE END SO FAR the best of the planet !!!!
Haha sounds like you're a pretty big fan of the new record then! Right on!
This album is garbage
The album was freaking amazing, and if you didn't enjoy it you're not a real Slipknot fan.
It is a very good album but I wouldn't call people not a Slipknot fan just because they might not be enjoying it, at the end of the day the band are just moving in their own circle which I think is great and more power to them but their legacy has almost been against them in some ways you know? Still though, really glad you enjoyed the record and I hope you dig the video too! Thanks for checking it out :)
What a dumb elitist statement.
