- The Pink Windmill Kids are all toffed up to the nines for their end-of-series party - and Grotbags, Croc and Redford are invited to join them, Rod and Emu for a rendition of Count on Me (originally from the film On the Town). The cast of Boggle's Kingdom also chime in to add an extra layer of class to proceedings - that is to say, Odd Job John (played by Carl Wayne of The Move) and Princess Hortensia (played by Susan Maughan of Bobby's Girl fame).
I've got great memories of watching this on 25th April 1986 - the last episode of the show ever to be broadcast live. In fact, there's a bit of an end-of-term atmosphere to it, and there are probably more cock-ups in this one routine than in the rest of the series put together, but that doesn't make me love it any less. From the missing of cues and bashing the camera to singing off-mic and going the wrong way at the very end - it only makes it all the more endearing to me! Absolutely cracking fun.
Many thanks to Sally for providing this recording.

This is probably my favourite of all the episodes. End of series drinks probably started a bit early, you can see how well everything worked together even in the chaos, they've all got well oiled chemistry at this point jumping and covering for each others mistakes.
It does look fun.
The poem was supposed to be "Roses are Red, violets are blue, hippos are big and so are you" Redford presumably also doing Croc's line.
Thank you! I'd never been able to make out that "Hippos are big" line before, for some reason.
So many little errors, but it ended up working charmingly! So cool to see how everyone had each other’s backs when they made mistakes
Yeah, it definitely adds to the charm. The whole show often felt like it was right on the brink of falling apart completely, but they always pulled it back somehow!
Love how Rod completely messes up his words and the kids just step in a carry the whole song.
Rod: "I was going to sing that bit."
But it still a great song though
I super appreciate you uploading these!
Glad you're enjoying the vids! I'm just delighted that a whole new audience is finally getting to discover them.
Watching this and thinking I’ve not seen this one before then saw I sent it to you 😂😂
I love when Sarah messed up the steps a little bit at around 2:33 😂😂
I wonder how that happened - Sarah _never_ messes up. Absolutely rock-solid reliable. Usually.
haha I didn't even see that the first time I watched this
@@lvs8768 me neither!
She was like:
Ohno.
How tf do you know thats sarah?
2, 4, 6, 8, who do we appreciate?
THE PINK WINDMILL KIDS 😍😍😍 (also why aren't there many comments lol this is the 2nd comment)
I absolutely love the occasional whole-cast sing-alongs they used to do! No idea why there are so few comments - it certainly deserves more recognition. (The RUclips algorithm works in mysterious ways...)
This is so nice
I love Odd job johns voice
Have you heard of the 60s band The Move? He was their lead singer. :-)
okay but THE TANGO SECTION tho
I remembered when I was a 5th grader, I would watch these and thinks which kids in my class would be on the show. For example, I would think **** was Gianni. Like that
You need to get them all together and form your own troupe!
@@VideotapeFTW that actually is a pretty good idea. But we’ll run into a lot of problems . Good idea though
Daryl was the only boy here to appear in emus wide world
Yeah, it's a pity because I'd have liked to have seen Daniel in particular stay at least another year or so, but I gather he changed schools.
2:31 Even Rod cringed at that bad rhyme
0:56 *dramatic screaming from the other side of the room* (ok but damn what happened there?)
It was Redford’s singing without the microphone. Lol, it does sound funny.
The camera shake at 0:53
It makes it look like Redford bumped into the camera operator on his way into shot.
Why did they stop the live show's? they were awesome.
I ask myself the same question every day!
People that wont be IN emus wide world
1. Helen
2. Peter
3. Daniel
4. Debbie
5. Joe
Btw the comments on big fun are off I’m pretty sure
Yeah, unfortunately they're permanently disabled on the three swimming pool routines, and I can't do anything about it. Thanks very much for telling me, though.
Comments are disabled on your most recent vid, too.
@@VideotapeFTWOh I see. RUclips does that alot🤦
2:34 Sarah's mistake 😨
Joe, Debbie, Daniel, Peter, and Helen’s last song :(
The end of several eras all at once...
@@VideotapeFTW yep :( 83-86 was my favorite era
It's always sad when the kids leave :-(
Redfords mic cutting out 😭
Boring technical note: I think the only individual mics are being worn by Rod and Croc, and everyone else's audio comes through the overhead boom mic. The boom operator must have been a fraction slow getting to Redford here.
Wonder what those kids are doing now. Did they make it in show business, did it ruin them and they turned to drugs. Or just got normal jobs.
A few of them were interviewed here: www.vice.com/en/article/vvdz99/when-someone-new-starts-at-work-pink-windmill-dance-meme-now
Joe probably got the most television work out of all of them, but others still work in theatre or as dance instructors or something along those lines. Others left 'showbiz' entirely.
Peter went to a ballet school with a scholarship, later won Young Dancer of the Year & continued his training in New York.
He worked as a backing dancer for Sinitta, (see below)

& appeared in several west end musicals (on returning from America) including CATS......as James Davies.
Later he went to university & then on to Oxford to gain a PHD. As Dr James Davies he teaches, & lectures all over the world as well as working in Harley Street. He is also an author.
