Emu's All Live Pink Windmill Show S1E4 (1984) - FULL EPISODE
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 17 сен 2024
- From Friday, August 3rd, 1984, and the first three minutes or so must comprise one of the most energetic pieces of live television ever attempted! There's no way they'd risk putting a show at the mercy of ten children like that these days - too much at stake - but all involved pull it off just perfectly. The song, incidentally, is Can't Stop Dancin' by Captain and Tennille, while the show closes with Rod singing the rather more sedate Anyone Can Whistle (from the musical of the same name).
The quality of this series seems to improve week by week, and there are signs that the plots are starting to get a bit more attention in this episode - Grotbags has brewed a potion to freeze Emu into a block of ice - but it still amounts to little more than giving them any old excuse to take some 'hostages' from the Pink Windmill. King Boggle, meanwhile, invents a flying machine that he hopes will help them all escape their time bubble, and there are plenty of giggles to be had as Rod and Emu gatecrash an aerobics class.
Many thanks to Louise for lending me this tape.
(Please remember that this is an old VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.)
The only episode we're currently missing from this series is the one from the week after this - the episode that didn't properly happen. If you've got a recording of it, please get in touch! You can send an e-mail to my username (above, beginning "Videot...") at gmail dot com, and we'll sort something out.

Any update on this?
@@KylerFlame Still looking, I'm afraid.
@@VideotapeFTW Oh my gosh still? I hope you find it!
Thats sad, hope to god it gets found, mabie it never got broadcasted.
Spencer is EASILY one of the BEST dancers on this show! He nails his choreography literally every time!!

People say my eyes get wide I wonder do I look like that. It only happens when I’m really shocked though.
Nobody ever talks about Spencer but he nails all of his choreography! Does he have any solos?
Now you mention it, none spring to mind. Odd, that. He was definitely one of the most reliable of all the dancers, though.
In "A Step in the Right Direction" he does
matt marsh omg yes he does. He's my favorite emu kid

I freaking love him!!
I'm really impressed by Abbie's talent.. considering she was so young she can really dance!
Genji Takiya so cute
Genji Takiya Wait what age was she?
I think was 8 or 9
Pretty sure she was 8
me too
@10:16 "that's a super game, isn't it, Spencer; yeah, you have to be ever so brainy to play that--you couldn't play, Anthony"
Wow. I know the English are witty and sharp tongued, but Jesus, Rod.
For some reason, Rod is exactly the sort of person who could get away with that sort of thing - possibly because he himself often played the Stan Laurel type. It never really occurred to me what it must look like to a newcomer to the show!
Rod's got sass lol
They do this all the time. They get roasted. Except baby Abbie.
I love how intelligent these kids are as well as their accents.
i love sarah smiling face..
6:21 Anthony didn't seem to happy about that one
Mr. Rusco He switched to a smile real quick haha
@@tpaypay the show was live what did you expect him to do lol
He looked as if he was about to slap him back for a short second there :D
Thanks so much again for posting these. Rod's son Toby is a good friend of mine and I got to know Rod as well. Very different from his on screen personna: quiet and deep with a love of literature but a very dear man indeed. He did not let bankruptcy phase him and was living quietly in a cottage near Rye where sadly he had that terrible accident. I still miss him.
You're very welcome indeed! It's so nice to hear what Rod was really like, and practically everyone who knew him non-professionally paints the same picture that you do. He really didn't deserve how it sadly ended.
If you're still in touch with Toby, by the way, please mention in passing that I'm more than willing - eager, in fact! - to help him out in any way at all with his father's archive material, if he likes. And in the unlikely event that I've got any recordings that the family don't have, I'll happily fill in any gaps. See my username above (beginning "Videot...")? I can be e-mailed at that at gmail dot com.
VideotapeFTW I'm chatting to him tomorrow I'll let him know ;) I remember the school we went to managed to get him to play Fagin in the musical Oliver! and he put Ron Moody well in the shade. I wish that had been taped.
I'll tell you what, it's a real shame that Toby's two Emu series have disappeared off the face of the planet already. I only ever saw bits of them, but they were good stuff. Perhaps this sudden increase in interest could be the springboard for more!
Anyway, thanks in advance for passing on the message - if you could do it without making it sound like I'm just some random internet nutter, then all the better. ;-)
VideotapeFTW Can't say too much but the TV people got greedy. Toby is doing ok for himself though. Works in media development and promotion in Sydney and has a baby girl.
Isn't that always the way with TV people? What a pity. Still, I'm glad to hear that things are going well for Toby. I think I may even have his first television appearance - aged four on Rod's This Is Your Life.
If you could let me know either way regarding what we were talking about, please, that would be greatly appreciated. (i.e. Even if Toby doesn't want to get involved, it's better that I know.) Thanks.
I really love these videos! It's such a shame so much content from the 70s and 80s is either lost or locked away. Thank you so much for the effort in the uploads.
Tularis You're very welcome - glad you're enjoying them! :-) I'm 99% certain this is one of those shows that will never get an official release (like most of my childhood favourites), so it's home recordings uploaded to RUclips or they stay in the vaults forever. I really wish broadcasters would realise just how valuable their archives are and make them available!
Indeed. I've uploaded everything I have from old VHS tapes as you can see on my channel. :)
Tularis I wish everyone would do this!
Anyone notice Anthony fall at the end?😂😂
I can't believe I never noticed that before - great spot!

Look at Spencer! What an amazing dancer! Didn't miss a step!
This is actually a very good entertaining show. Some of the other stuff was a bit like a soap for kids and I used to find them boring. I like how this is very light and upbeat. The kids dance very well. Nice to watch if you are tired.
Anthony’s smile💗 makes me so happy❤️❤️❤️
Considering how many segments Joe and Catrina shared together, I hope they actually got along well.

You're very welcome indeed - I'm just delighted that at last the Pink Windmill is finally reaching a new generation of viewers!

It's amazing how much things have changed in such a relatively short space of time. I wonder what today's generation of kids would make of these shows!

about how many episodes are there supposed to be from season 1 of the live show? i have to say, i've watched a LOT of rod and emu videos in the past week and i find this season of the live show to be quite endearing. the annotations you put in are fantastic too, so thanks for uploading all of these videos :D
You're very welcome indeed. Glad you're enjoying them! I've only got four episode of the first live series, but I believe there were seven in total - except that episode five went wrong and this happened instead: ruclips.net/video/oY84fCEVo0g/видео.html
I'm still trying to get to the bottom of things there! I live in hope that more people will come forward with recordings soon...
Rod Hull, we love you man ^_^ I remember meeting him in 1987 in Rochester for the Police Xmas Party when I was 4 (my Dad worked as a Policeman then) ^_^
Oh, wow - did he put on a show, or was he wondering around with Emu making mischief?

The car they gave away is a model of the 1983 Toleman.
The one Alistair won.

So... no one finna talk about what the actual fuck is Sarah doing at 0:40
I remember those stirrup pants and those leotards. Also note that the Broad Street studios were demolished and in later episodes the address changed to Nottingham and that location is now part of the University of Nottingham. For citations search Wikipedia and Google.

That boxed Jukes of Hazzard General Lee car that Kevin didn't want in Grotbag's Grotto, today boxed in mint condition will be worth a lot of money.

I noticed the center of the windmill is shaped as a swastika.
Don't bring nazi symbolism to an amazing show or I will eat your crayons.
Spencer is by far the most talented one, it's no comparison with the others. I wonder why he didn't pursue an artistic career.
When he was fired from the show he realized he doesn't want to be a performer anymore. So unfortunate

Mike from stranger things maybe watched this😂
Its annoying when people always have to mention stranger things when it comes to the 80s, its not that good lmao
Y am I watching dis!!!!!!!
I only just noticed that Rod's right arm isn't fully through his sleeve. It cuts off halfway, presumably where his arm enters the puppet.
I'm not sure whether Rod's arm actually enters the sleeve at all, or just goes through a second hole beneath it. One thing I _do_ know is that the puppet was basically part of the jacket (velcro'd or sewn in), so put it on and you're automatically controlling Emu.
"AND BOO TO YOU YOU HORRIBLE BRATS!"

"Don't start laughing, you fool - come up here..."
Dude! The 80s
I'm curious to see how you'll handle the following "episode" - if you do have a copy of it - considering it was a mere replay of an episode or two as far as I remember. If it does get uploaded, then hooray for a higher quality copy of old episodes! :-)
I'm afraid a recording of the failed episode hasn't shown up yet, but when it does, I'll probably upload the whole broadcast for the sake of completism. (Not a word, but you know what I mean.) Or maybe I'll just edit the live bits together... or why not both? :-)
P.S. I've just replied to your private message with the list you asked for - if it hasn't shown up, please try ruclips.net/user/messages?tab=spam or ruclips.net/user/messages?tab=sent.

There's a funny story about episode five - it didn't actually happen due to the props department at the studio being on strike that week. The episode was written and rehearsed, but never made.
