Keep the box! I do restoration of vintage doll boxes- it is re-inforced from behind with archival acid-free lignin-free art cardboard/heavy paper, archival art hinging tape, etc.... to stablize and keep it sturdy. Don't throw the box out, it IS history. It can be restored! Bless, Kimberly!

As a vintage doll collector also, I am sadden by the condition you found her in. You probably already know this but if that is mold on her box and/or shoes, do not put them around your other dolls because those mold spores can infect the rest of your dolls. I have seen whole doll rooms get infected and all dolls need to then be disposed as the mold contaminated the vinyl on some of them. Soaking the clothes in something like Oxy clean, U.S. name, can rid the outfits of yellowing. Soaking overnight and for several days can brighten most fabrics. I hope you can get her fixed up to your satisfaction. Take care.

The Matilda doll is so pretty. Terrible the seller wasn’t honest. I recently purchased a 35 year anniversary Barbie, brand new in box and her glue was old and breaking apart. Very disappointing.
