I am 49 years old and I was diagnose with Parkinson's Disease a couple of years ago. I have been looking for a hobby to help keep my hands mobile. I found painting lures is wonderful. i started out watching vids on RUclips, including yours and love it. Because of meds cost and inability to work, I couldn't afford an expensive brush or paints, I have no way to make stencils and such, but I do love painting lures. I just wanted to thank you for showing me some techniques and giving me some ideas. It has helped me cope with this terrible disease.
I have been airbrushing for a while, I am a professional craftsman. I am so inspired by your videos that I spent $800 on everything I need paint lures. If they come out half as good as yours I will be happy. Awesome work on ALL your baits. Keep the video's coming.
right now here in south so hot I cant get outside to fish cause I have weak heart an I don't want to stroke out....but I do want to get some the stencils but cant afford to get a lot of stuff at one time but I got enough to practice on some old baits I have but I am started to learn what you saying about using different colors to bring out the color but love your video it helping me getting to paint baits good very fast that took you years to learn
i used this idea on my plastic swimbaits they came out looking great i cant use the kind of paint you do but use what i could but they came out looking great i was impressed
i made some blade baits with this kind of idea they came out great to not exact like yours but i started with this idea you a great teacher in over lapping colors
Great bluegill. I've seen those stencils but haven't been able to pull the trigger on them yet. 50 bucks is a bit much for me right now. Thanks again. The pattern I've been running had fluorescent orange on the belly and I have switched over to a blend of crimson with the golden yellow. Less bright and more real.
Awesome videos with lots of good info. Just one suggestion. I buy the mesh at Joann fabrics. You can get all sorts of sizes and patterns there and get a decent amount for cheaper then cutting a sponge up.
Excellent videos. During your crawfish pattern video, you touched on making your own stencils via vacuum forming. Also, you briefly addressed cutting the pattern into the stencils using a Dremel tool with the right bit. What Dremel bit have you found that works best for this purpose? Thanks.
I am just starting to gather supplies to try my hand at painting my own baits.. What I was wondering is where you purchased your clamping fixture to hold your baits.. ? Also, do you think that that paints would also work on led.. currently I am powder dipping them.. If I can use the airbrush on both crankbaits and also on my jigs and spinnerbaits it would be really helpful...
Your video's are really super! Thanks. I have ordered some stencils from the Lure Colour Studio and would like to order some more, but haven't been able to confirm if the "S" series stencil ( used in your video) is designed to work on the Predator Bass Bait "SKO" bait. It appears to be the same, both on their website and in your video, but before I order I would like to be sure the stencil will work on the SKO's I already have. Hope you can help.
Bill Barber they are pretty much the same. For what it's worth the S Squarebills are better quality at Dingerbaits.com. Lure Colour Studios used Dingers baits to make the stencil
Such great videos!! You've inspired me - I just got my first airbrush and have painted my first couple lures -- I love it! In general how much do you thin your paint down? I was cutting the wicked colors down by half -- but since I'm so new - wasn't sure if that's enough.
Joe Hardy you dont always have to thin your paints. Depends on what you are trying to achieve. More reducer, more transparent. There isn't an exact formula for how much reducer to use
Thank you for being so great and replying to comments so quickly. It's very much appreciated. One last question what is the holder called that holds your lures while you paint them
I don't have swimbait bodies to paint and I have not done a peacock bass before. There is a video on RUclips by Lure Colour Studios that does a peacock bass
I've been watching your videos for awhile now since buying one of your lures, which works amazing might I add. Now I'm looking into possibly getting started painting my own lures as a side hobby. Is there an airbrush kit out there that you'd recommend for someone to buy as a starter set to expand on in the future if I end up enjoying it as much as I think I will?
So new at this so I hope you don't mind answering some questions. 1. Why do you heat set? 2. Are there brush paints I can use? And finally I know this sounds stupid however can I use nail polish?
Rachel Graeff I heat set so it dries faster and I can move on to the next color. I recommend paints made for airbrushing since they are thinner and pass threw the gun better. So avoid paints with glitter in them. It will clog the brush. I don’t know much about nail polish but I’m guessing it’s way to thick. Check out my Facebook page Brotherhood of Custom Crankbait Painting for help and how to tips
Great video. I am trying to find where you can guy com art paint and can't find anywhere. Can you refer? I can find Createx everywhere, but not com art. Any pointers to a distributor would be appreciated!
Ronnie McHone they are on our website. The stripe pattern is only available on the S-Squarebill as shown in the video. Otherwise the stripes are as you see them on my website www.luremeincrankbaits.com
Lure Me In Custom Painted Crankbaits good deal. I'm from Ohio and have done several lures exclusively for Pro Angler Fletcher Shryock and been on a few podcasts and local radio stations. I'd like to get into it more but just so much competition to make a serious profit.
What type of airbrush and compressor set up would you recommend? I've finally bought a house with a shop so I can start my journey into painting lures. I'm looking for some pointers so I make good decisions and purchases in the beginning. I want to start with a good foundation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Steve Tucker Check out my website www.luremeincrankbaits.com. It's all custom. You choose the body then choose the color pattern and I paint to order. At the top of the homepage click "view/order lures. You can see what's available
That looks great. But if I can make one comment. All the bluegills I have ever seen. Especially from this part of the country are more of a violet blue. I never see one that light of blue. Just my opinion

Love the blue gill.. are you still painting.. all new to me
This is one of my older versions of a blue gill I have better looking ones now!

Awesome video! I love watching these
That's just insane it looks like you could throw it in the water and it would swim away lol you are the man !!!l
My Lure Colour Studio stencils came in today. I can't wait to take a whack at that Natural Bluegill set!!!!
i used this idea on my plastic swimbaits they came out looking great i cant use the kind of paint you do but use what i could but they came out looking great i was impressed
i started by using a chrome yellow to make the baits then painted from there
i made some blade baits with this kind of idea they came out great to not exact like yours but i started with this idea you a great teacher in over lapping colors
Great video. Looking forward to more.
You don't need the stencils for this pattern. Before I got to stencils I was using a comb for the stripes
I used a hole punch for like paper and punched a few lines in a piece of plastic for my stencil.
I'm seeing a few lure painters using those stencils. Hopefully the community will not be flooded with the same patterns. Nice colorway btw.
Looks great.
Great lure! Subtle is the name of the game! I really like a natural bluegill. If I only could have one lure, it would sure would be a bluegill
Awesome work
Great video as usual. Where do you get the s crank blanks?
Awesome videos with lots of good info. Just one suggestion. I buy the mesh at Joann fabrics. You can get all sorts of sizes and patterns there and get a decent amount for cheaper then cutting a sponge up.
Joann's has a lot of great mesh.. I think they call it Tool or spelled Tuhl
Thank you for sharing this technique!
great video as always
i enjoy watching your videos ive actually learned alot also.
Great tutorial! I'm gonna give this one a try.
Where can I that blank ? Very nice work.
Excellent videos. During your crawfish pattern video, you touched on making your own stencils via vacuum forming. Also, you briefly addressed cutting the pattern into the stencils using a Dremel tool with the right bit. What Dremel bit have you found that works best for this purpose? Thanks.
Dave Holland its an etching bit I got at Home Depot

+Christian pizzoleo- miles Thank you!
How do you keep there from being that fine overspray that you get with an airbrush. Your colors look so clean without any color mending
Just lower the pressure.

I don't have swimbait bodies to paint and I have not done a peacock bass before. There is a video on RUclips by Lure Colour Studios that does a peacock bass
This was so helpful. Thank you so much. Question tho. Where do you buy you lure blanks and paint?

ZZ430T56 yes it hunts. It was modeled from the original S Crank from what I'm told
subbed. incredible work
Sorry . Where do you get the blanks ? Thanks
have u ever used the Wicked Colors clear base when applying a light color over black?
No. What does that do?
I don't know yet...I just ordered sum
Do you do any prep on the blanks before painting ? Thanks

Thx mate, polish pike like this painting :)
I've seen you brush your clear on at times. Why do you do that instead of spraying it?
What clear coat do you ude
that turned out nice! what clear do you use?
Devcon 2 ton 30 min epoxy
I hear a lot about a bait yellowing with clear coat what you think about that?
Are you priming these with anything prior to the white base coat or just painting them?
Great video. I am trying to find where you can guy com art paint and can't find anywhere. Can you refer? I can find Createx everywhere, but not com art. Any pointers to a distributor would be appreciated!
Bill K www.dickblick.com
Is it possible to get a list of paints you used on this lure?
Do you make your own crank bait shells?
Do you ever add glitter or sparkles to your clear coat dip
landon hair yes. Pearl glitter
does this paint smell ? I cant smell an I was wondering what you use to cover the sent of baits?
What clear coat do use when your done painting?
Ive used many clear coats from Devcon 2 ton 2 part epoxy (30 min working time) to KBS, and now I use Alumilite UV cure
What are the best brands name colors to use to where you don't have to thin every time
Josh Kendrick Comart and Wicked paints
How does someone buy your baits?
I'll take 5 of the blue gill !
are these available for purchase?
Ronnie McHone they are on our website. The stripe pattern is only available on the S-Squarebill as shown in the video. Otherwise the stripes are as you see them on my website www.luremeincrankbaits.com
do you have to thin out the paint, if so does water work?
ReelingWithJim in some case I thin the paint and when I do I used AutoAir Reduced. Don’t use water
Do you heat set with the 3D stenciled on or off ??
where do you buy your lure banks from... I would like to get some and put your tips to good use

+Lure Me In Custom Painted Crankbaits thanks
Are the S-Cranks blanks not sold anymore? I have scoured the internet to find the blanks and nada.
+Dave Rose right now they aren't because MegaBass has a pending patent on the body design
Are you even selling lures, or doing it for hobby? I've been painting lures for 9 years and it seems like everyone and thier brother are painting now.
We Do It Outdoors it's more of a hobby that makes enough money to cover my costs. I sell on Facebook and a website
Lure Me In Custom Painted Crankbaits You do great work.
We Do It Outdoors thank you. I found out today there is a chance I'll be featured again in In-Fisherman Magazine next summer
Lure Me In Custom Painted Crankbaits good deal. I'm from Ohio and have done several lures exclusively for Pro Angler Fletcher Shryock and been on a few podcasts and local radio stations. I'd like to get into it more but just so much competition to make a serious profit.
What S-Crank blank do you use? Shelts? Dinger? Etc....?
What epoxy do you use for your clear coat?
CastMasters GA devcon
CastMasters GA I used to use Devcon but switched to BSI 2 part Epoxy if I need a quick cure time. If I have time I really like Environtex Lite
I also use Envirotex Lite!
How did you get thr glitter effect on this lure ?
The glitter was mixed into the 2 part epoxy then clear coated it
What type of airbrush and compressor set up would you recommend? I've finally bought a house with a shop so I can start my journey into painting lures. I'm looking for some pointers so I make good decisions and purchases in the beginning. I want to start with a good foundation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
