ebay isn't Amazon. If the seller declared a no return policy, they won't say a word here. I guess he paid with paypal and he does have the right to charge back. but the ball will be in paypal's hands. good luck in explaining to a paypal employee who doesn't even know what mtg is why this wasn't a genuine beta starter. If openboosters didn't pay with paypal, then he called it on himself.

You guys definitely can petition eBay for a refund on this regardless of whatever policies Probstein123's eBay store has. I know from returns I've had personally in the past that regardless of whatever policies you say people "can't return for", they mean very little in the face of a return request to eBay. You guys even had damaged cards in there, the Pack Rat with the swipe on it, and some of those cards had pretty major whiting on the front. eBay would definitely see this as a counterfeit sale even if the cards were real, as you guys did get swindled. I'm sure Rick Probstein or nobody working under him was responsible for it, it's a consignment store afterall. But at the end of the day he was the seller, and it was his responsibility to make sure what he was selling wasn't tampered with. I can't say how long it's been since you guys bought it, but Probstein123 likely holds the money from the people he does consignments for until a certain date is reached as well. If you guys file a claim soon, you might be able to hurt the guy who actually did the repacking.
I noticed another Starter Deck listing from Probstein123 that was opened. Went for $1,124 + $12 shipping. The cards look to be the same ones you opened. 2 plague rats, chaos lace, thoughtlace, etc. Filter by sold listings and sort by highest. Sold March 8th. EDIT: just put it together, you got yours Feb 3rd. They likely relisted the same cards. DOH!

You aren't slicing towards the cards, you're lifting the plastic against the edge and sliding it forward. This makes it impossible to cut into the cards or anything wrapped in the plastic unless you have severe nerve damage and partial blindness.
As soon as you flipped the duplicate common card my heart sank for you guys. Hopefully eBay helps you out with this mess since you opened on camera. Anyway was a fun opening to see the old cards.

Was bought from PWCC, determined to be resealed and returned. The owner resealed it again and sent it to Probstein. Was all over FB groups not to buy this when the auction was live.
Immediate thoughts : why does the card have various black intensity on their back ? Why are the corners and edges damaged, but in a different way every time ? Why are the corners cut in a different way ? It all means they come from different printing batches - and starter decks are not composed of so many printing batches. Cards are clearly not NM, manufacturing defects are not that present. I scrolled down to the comment section to see if it was an early April fool ...

man thats awful. ive gotten more and more counterfeit cards lately from online vendors than ever before and ive been buying cards online for a lng time. never to that extent though. im truly sorry that that happened to you man, you and edwin seem like solid genuine guys and its such a shame that people do these things. i hope you got the resolution you hoped for and dont lose faith in the community man. for every person like that there are 10 more good ones.
Buying anything "unopened" from ABU and the four horsemen sets should be a no go. As somebody who started in 95, those sets were gone for awhile then. At comic con, you might have found a few booths each with one or two packs of a particular one of those sets. Obviously some people kept a few sealed boxes here and there, but they were 99.9% gone by then and maybe a handful of people saw vue into holding onto sealed product. Throw 25 years on that and today there is in all likelihood, 0.00001% left. The odds are so stacked against any authentic unopened product remaining, that it is unbelievably dangerous to buy any. Now because the market has lost control, scammers have increased reasons to screw people over. Wayyyyyy too much risk.

Ebay has almost an airtight returns policy although ebay has a Buyers remorse policy with Cards I believe the way they worded that listing was to protect themselves from any liability but they knew because none of their other listings for sealed products have that warning attached to it Why even include that warning if you didn't know something was fixed .... 10K is probably just a flash in the pan for Probstein btw I hope you get your money back and keep the cards

If the seller clearly says in their listing they can’t guarantee an authentic factory pack aren’t the covered so long as they provide the total number of authentic cards from that set? Repacks are sold all the time on ebay, if they backed the product in any way there would be people buying tons of repacks then filing disputes just to get free cards and eBay would take down those kind of listings. That’s at least how it used to be, it’s been a long time since I’ve used eBay and I’be heard the horror stories for both parties.
This is exactly why I won’t touch sealed product and it’s scary how good the internal wrapping was you could tell the wear on the cards and no lands screams obvious sorry Dan I hope you fight and get a refund.
Get your money back. If the seller doesn't want to offer you a refund, file a claim with eBay. You have video evidence and the images of the beta print sheet that you can send to eBay to support your claim. Saying "I don't know if this is a repack." doesn't allow them to keep your money.
I believe Magic cards in starters always had the "sealed for your protection tear-strip" on the cards, never a heat shrink wrap. You didn't even need to make the video after you pulled it out of the box.
That’s brutal. I hope you are successful on getting the refund. I mean... there is a chance the seller didn’t know it was a repack... they indicated their dubiousness in the posting. Maybe on the future steer clear of any ambiguous listings and just take the odds that if it seems too good to be true, it’s probably because it is. All the same... sucks man, I feel for you. What a disappointment. What is the return on what you got? The pack fresh singles probably have a great price for graders.
This was probably repacked several years ago, at the moment is impossible to trace who did this since this packs are so old and without any documentation as well. At this days, the chance of getting an authentic vintage pack is really low, unless from a highly trusted source.
if its from ebay cant you sent it back? my buddy says selling anything on there is a huge pain in the ass because anything can be returned for like nothing. had his oculus rift sent back 3 times and he had to eat the shipping.
WTF! This has to be the polar opposite of opening the Black Lotus and emotionally had to be worse. Back in the day, I hate to say it, I used Beta Lands as drink coasters, so I am guessing this is a more recent repack that considered the value of lands. I hope there was some kind of resolution in your favor Dan!! I am frankly surprised the A-hole that did this repack didn't put a joker card in for one of the rare cards, which is essentially what two laces represent.

Consider that you cost averaged a little bit upwards for some very nice condition Beta commons. If you average all of your cost together for all of your Beta, I think you are doing just fine.

Get your money back. If the seller doesn't want to offer you a refund, file a claim with eBay. You have video evidence and the images of the beta print sheet that you can send to eBay to support your claim. Saying "I don't know if this is a repack." doesn't allow them to keep your money.

I believe Magic cards in starters always had the "sealed for your protection tear-strip" on the cards, never a heat shrink wrap. You didn't even need to make the video after you pulled it out of the box.

They started to have a gold foil pull tab halfway through Unlimited Print I think. So some Unlimited have it, some do not.

No the easy tear point was not introduced until halfway through Unlimited.

That’s brutal. I hope you are successful on getting the refund. I mean... there is a chance the seller didn’t know it was a repack... they indicated their dubiousness in the posting. Maybe on the future steer clear of any ambiguous listings and just take the odds that if it seems too good to be true, it’s probably because it is. All the same... sucks man, I feel for you. What a disappointment. What is the return on what you got? The pack fresh singles probably have a great price for graders.
This was probably repacked several years ago, at the moment is impossible to trace who did this since this packs are so old and without any documentation as well. At this days, the chance of getting an authentic vintage pack is really low, unless from a highly trusted source.
Brutal, hopefully Ebay does the right thing and approves the refund request. This gives context to why Dan paused the OpenBoosters channel.
if its from ebay cant you sent it back? my buddy says selling anything on there is a huge pain in the ass because anything can be returned for like nothing. had his oculus rift sent back 3 times and he had to eat the shipping.
WTF! This has to be the polar opposite of opening the Black Lotus and emotionally had to be worse. Back in the day, I hate to say it, I used Beta Lands as drink coasters, so I am guessing this is a more recent repack that considered the value of lands. I hope there was some kind of resolution in your favor Dan!! I am frankly surprised the A-hole that did this repack didn't put a joker card in for one of the rare cards, which is essentially what two laces represent.

Consider that you cost averaged a little bit upwards for some very nice condition Beta commons. If you average all of your cost together for all of your Beta, I think you are doing just fine.
