I think IRL it used rocket propelled torpedoes. It is meant to be dropped high and fast and to burn away with its rockets while in the air so it can hit the water at a ridiculous speed and maintain 70 knots after impact and until contact.
so Gaijin just didn't bother to model a new torp type then, thus rendering the plane and its role superfluous in the wake of prop driven torp capable aircraft and much more dangerous given that the jet is so much larger and relatively more fragile compared to its prop powered forebears.
No it didn't. The first Rocket propelled torpedoes where not tested until the late 60's long after the TU-14 was out of service. Karel is right, The torps it was designed to drop where pretty much the same as the torps of WWII, Which is why it only had seven years of service before being replaced.
I think of it more like a second IL-28 for tank RB. Also the torpedo might come in handy for the approaching naval forces, since there is no AI controlled OP AA, but only player AA (which might not even fire if the enemy doesn't see you). Also Bombs are probably far less useful on the boats we get, since those targets are a lot smaller and faster than a carrier, which might give a close range torpedo some advantages
omg it has an air-brake, that makes her infinitely more valuable for Sim Battles than the IL-28. The lack of an air-brake on the later is driving me nuts as you have to do circles around the airfield for a long time to drop your speed. Furthermore the rear gunner position is way better armored on the Tu-14, however the IL-28 has more frontal armor.
By that do you mean, attacking the bomber hunters? Even a horrible pilot such as myself has a positive KD with it. Oddly, most were with the rear guns.
The IL-28's forward-firing 23mms carry a little bit more than the Tu-14's while the Tu-14's defensive 23mms carry a lot more rounds than the IL-28's do
I always dive bomb with my torpedoes, I take something like an SB2C and use the dive speed to get away from the torpedo blast hitting the ship (I drop near point blank so that it's a guaranteed hit)
The blueprints of the Tu 14T was basically an Arado's. It was captured by the Soviets to advance their technological capabilities in jet warfare. In simple terms, its basically a Aradon with new jet engines and a soviet emblem to it. Basic Russian engineering at best!
Accept that internally and structurally it was totally different and four times the size of course. Same argument could be made that the Sabre and the MiG-15 are only copies of the TA-183 because they share design similarities. If you want to see an example of a real copy the B-29 to the TU-4 .:)
As a side note, the 4x500kg bomb loadout (which I'm pretty sure the IL-28 doesn't have) *is* better for Tanks RB than any in the IL-28's options, which is what I'd say the Tu-14's main advantage is.
im a fan of the spit and i like the change mostly because i could just use the other 3, but the grif can wallop high tier jet easly because 90% of playerbase is retarded
It is, But if you already have the IL-28 is it worth the 250,000ish research points to access the plane and then the additional 50,000ish module research points to get access to that one bomb load? That's what I was getting at, If you don't have the IL-28 sure go to the TU-14. If you do, Well that's a lot of research just so you can press space twice and miss with two bombs before a Gepard or a Hunter shoots you down. . .
I was sure it was more than that, I didn't pay much attention. I just power ground through it. Regardless even at 130k that 130k +unlocks for access to a bomb load. 130k that could be sunk into anything else. If you think it's worth it by all means, But if I didn't have all of rank V but I did have the IL-28 I would be looking at a MiG-17 or a Yak 30 before I considered the TU-14.
I feel like the Tu-14 would be a better bomber in defense because it has 700 rounds for the rear gunners while the IL-28 has 450 rounds. Though the IL-28 has a slightly larger amount of ammo for the forward firing guns, but by only 30 rounds more.
With only 2x23mm gun sin the rear in an environment where you will be attacked by Hunters. . 700 rounds doesn't mean much, And unlike the TU-4 the TU-14 will fall apart when hit with 30mm AIDEN rounds (As it should). And remember you pay for that ammo with being a larger, slower target that is also slower to turn and climb.
Also anything would rip apart easy if you get on the wrong end of a good Hunter or F2 pilot. Though the Tu-14 being an 8.0 jet will not face Hunters or F2 sabres every single match. You can get downtiered and face other 8.0 aircraft which are slower, and have moderate firepower
At this point I have unlocked all the bomb-loads and nearly finished unlocking all the modules (Working on the air-frame upgrade which is the last one I need to finish now) and in all the battles that it has taken to do unlock this I have never once been down tiered to a BR 8.0 maximum match. I have always wound up flying with the Hunters.
Magz can you do a video on the F9F-6 Cougar? I love your reviews and have been really wanting to see a full review for the aircraft either stock and/or spaded.
Well, if they did not add the airbrake to Il-28, this new bomber, as we can see in this video, has one, which is nice featore to have, aside it is almost the same as Il-28...
Danny RLM in real life in WWII AAA had to engage huge formations however in WT they are shooting at single targets which is way more difficult. That's why gaijin buffed it cus otherwise it would be totally useless
Thanks..I thought you would get a kick out of this story!...my childhood friend was a combat pilot in Iraq with 150 missions...I got him into Warthunder and he loves it..I told him about DCS and IL2 but for now he is into WT.He is constantly getting shot down in Sim but is improving daily.
Hey Magz Love your video's Quick question.Do you ever use a Joystick in Simulator Battles?..I do OK in Sim but in Realistic i get my ass handed to me and i only use a Thurstmaster Hotas X joystick..Thanks William
I wish I could do the same but I only have a Mac..its funny because I'm decent in Sim and terrible in RB..i can't get any kills in RB but in Sim Im at 51% kill ratio...any advice?
No, Just no. Anything that puts you directly in the guns of your enemy is a stupid idea 99% of the time. There is no skill to a head on, despite what you think. Your ability to survive a head on depends entirely on the ability of the guy you are going head on with's ability to shoot. Your commitment doesn't matter, I've bulls eyes MiG-17is in my Hunter at over 2km when they tried to head on, and I have watched replays of my subscribers doing the same thing at over that. Look up historical air combat records and try to find a battle that ended in a head on, You wont because all pilots where trained to avoid getting into the enemies guns. The only place you will Find head on's is in bad Hollywood movies and in cocky players who think they can out shoot anyone in War Thunder. Hell the battle shown in this video should have been enough to see that, First I kill a Hunter that tries to head on, Then I kill an F-86 after taking off that tries to head on. Then I get killed by a hunter in a head on but that Hunter then dies after he crashed into my wreck as the head on left him no time to avoid it. 1 base kill, Two BR 9.0 aircraft kills and a 3rd BR 9.0 by ramming death in a bomber because people are too stupid to realise this. Yet if any of them had used there totally superior aircraft and just gone vertical, rolled into a dive and pulled the trigger from directly above I would have been dead and there would have been nothing I could do about it.
Just noticed that, Fucked up the editing, The fade was meant to go the other way with crash fading into the cinematic. I killed the F-86, The Hunter killed me then killed himself by crashing into my wreck. Kinda annoyed I messed up that edit, Was bloody funny.
I think that bombers gameplay altogether is kind of broken because you have to land in a very close vicinity near the enemy fighters - very unrealistic, very game braking. especially the fact that after landing and rearming you have to climb - and bombers usually can not climb. this leaves you with actually with 10 minutes of fun, land and then be useless for the rest of the game. only if bombers after re-arming would get air-spawn - it would be great.
Don't look for realistic in WT Game play, Regardless of what type of aircraft or tank you play. War Thunder is not realistic, It's an arena combat game. The Arena's in this case just happen to be based on real world locations.
At the moment they are, But it's much easier to show why when you actually use them and talk through the details. Right now if given the choice I always take the bombs.

Just curious, did you plan on reviewing the upcoming battle rating changes?
Yes.
Can you do a non-scripted cliffs of Dover as you like your flight sims and that's the best ww2 flight sim out there please
Great video as useal
Will Graves the scripted ones are the best
How the hell do you, as a hunter, fuck up a head on with a Tu-14T? lol
Quite easily as it turns out.
Simple be cocky
F104Starfighter because PS4. I am a PS4 player myself and i mostly fuck up Head ons as well. regardless of what i fly
it doesnt
Very well researched and thorough review Magz. Well done and keep it up. We love you for it!
magz, could we get a comparison video between the major jet bombers currently in game?
all usless except mk 6 canberra
wait, the torps are basically WWII torps? no drag chute to slow it before hitting the water? that'd be suicide against most fleets it would face...
That's what I was thinking.
I think IRL it used rocket propelled torpedoes. It is meant to be dropped high and fast and to burn away with its rockets while in the air so it can hit the water at a ridiculous speed and maintain 70 knots after impact and until contact.

man, that would have seriously sucked as a job if the Cold War had ever gotten hot.
I think of it more like a second IL-28 for tank RB. Also the torpedo might come in handy for the approaching naval forces, since there is no AI controlled OP AA, but only player AA (which might not even fire if the enemy doesn't see you). Also Bombs are probably far less useful on the boats we get, since those targets are a lot smaller and faster than a carrier, which might give a close range torpedo some advantages
eyy whip energy is in your game
The Tu-14 has one thing that the IL-28 don't. and that is an airbrake, wich does indeed make it a lot easier to land.
omg it has an air-brake, that makes her infinitely more valuable for Sim Battles than the IL-28. The lack of an air-brake on the later is driving me nuts as you have to do circles around the airfield for a long time to drop your speed. Furthermore the rear gunner position is way better armored on the Tu-14, however the IL-28 has more frontal armor.
Make a review on the Ju 88 C-6, before it gets nerfed. It's really a wicked amount of fun atm.
By that do you mean, attacking the bomber hunters? Even a horrible pilot such as myself has a positive KD with it. Oddly, most were with the rear guns.

Hope they add in the Tu-95
The blueprints of the Tu 14T was basically an Arado's. It was captured by the Soviets to advance their technological capabilities in jet warfare. In simple terms, its basically a Aradon with new jet engines and a soviet emblem to it. Basic Russian engineering at best!

MagzTV thanks mate.
With destroyers coming, i will be using this beast a lot
As a side note, the 4x500kg bomb loadout (which I'm pretty sure the IL-28 doesn't have) *is* better for Tanks RB than any in the IL-28's options, which is what I'd say the Tu-14's main advantage is.
Are we finally seeing a pretty... not-so-overpowered Russian jetplane? :o
*BLASPHEMY*
Griffon 24 at 6.7 BR
What do you say about that?
It's a better aircraft than the He 162 at the same Battle Rating, Beyond that we'll have to wait and see.
Sir Fabulous
without 150 octane it was fine at 6.3
with it it should be there
AsBadAsBot Spitfire fanyboys don't like it.
im a fan of the spit and i like the change mostly because i could just use the other 3, but the grif can wallop high tier jet easly because 90% of playerbase is retarded
You forgot to mention the TU-14 is much more heavily armoured around the gunner and pilot also has alot more ammo for the 23mm turret.
Those bomb options are just FABulous.
9:44 Nice takeoff Magz...
That first kill was stupid xD how can you be so bad with a Hunter
Tail strikes on take off are another problem with the plane. This thing is just so damn long!
i think the Tu14T is a beautiful plane. it's strangely .. elegant.
I think the ability to load 2x 1000kg bombs is helpfull for ground RB
the IL-28 does not have this payload
It is, But if you already have the IL-28 is it worth the 250,000ish research points to access the plane and then the additional 50,000ish module research points to get access to that one bomb load? That's what I was getting at, If you don't have the IL-28 sure go to the TU-14.

MagzTV
isnt the Tu-14T just 130k RP?
when I researched it it was really cheap RP wise.
I was sure it was more than that, I didn't pay much attention. I just power ground through it.
Regardless even at 130k that 130k +unlocks for access to a bomb load. 130k that could be sunk into anything else.

MagzTV
sure thing.
I just pointed the ability to load 2x 1000kg out without looking at the overall grind of the 2 planes.
Magz you're awesome! Thanks for brightening up my absolute c*** of a day with your video.
You are most welcome mate!
I like that a lot you such do more bomber videos like this.
Tu-14T is great CAS for ground battles
2:41 rip whip_energy
Thx for that .. This advice is one I'm gonna listen to as I'm just researching this plane and I do have the il-28 .. right on the money m8 :)
Glad I could be of help!
I feel like the Tu-14 would be a better bomber in defense because it has 700 rounds for the rear gunners while the IL-28 has 450 rounds. Though the IL-28 has a slightly larger amount of ammo for the forward firing guns, but by only 30 rounds more.

Magz if you got the B-57A play it it got a new BR its 7.0 now
Hey Magz are you still planing on doing a Brigand video?
I like the new intro
Well, if they did not add the airbrake to Il-28, this new bomber, as we can see in this video, has one, which is nice featore to have, aside it is almost the same as Il-28...
How much research points would you make of this game ? Or just from destroying a base ?
Like the new intro
Hey Mags I remember you wanting to play ARMA 3, not sure if you still want to but there is a Squad based group mainly infantry group called Frontline.
great another plane that has death lasers on the back that flies to space thanks gaijin.
at least it doesn't have death lasers on every angle, go at it from the side and it's completely defenseless.
goes to target, drops bombs and dives away unpunished. almost always work
Very good review.
What is a good first joystick?
GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEday ladies and gents
i can only see night time operations being an opportune time to use torps. Unfortunately the AAA can see you through everything (ban AAA for abuse jk)
k gaijin, magz said it your aa is like a radar guided aa misile
Danny RLM in real life in WWII AAA had to engage huge formations however in WT they are shooting at single targets which is way more difficult. That's why gaijin buffed it cus otherwise it would be totally useless
notification squad, assemble!
Telsion 👍👍👍
no life squad assemble.
Hello Magz What head tracking system do you use in SB?...Thanks, William
TrackIR
Thanks..I thought you would get a kick out of this story!...my childhood friend was a combat pilot in Iraq with 150 missions...I got him into Warthunder and he loves it..I told him about DCS and IL2 but for now he is into WT.He is constantly getting shot down in Sim but is improving daily.
it was spark thunder a while ago and it became bug thunder now... someone give me a call when they decide to fix that mess
Do you run a joystick? Or just a mouse and keyboard?
I run everything and switch between them depending on what I am doing.
why did they decide to sweep back the vertical stabilizers and not the wing?
Low speed stability when dropping torpedoes, A swept wing on an aircraft this size would struggle at the slow speed required for torpedo drops.
Hey Magz Love your video's Quick question.Do you ever use a Joystick in Simulator Battles?..I do OK in Sim but in Realistic i get my ass handed to me and i only use a Thurstmaster Hotas X joystick..Thanks William
I only use a Joystick in Sim battles. Mouse and keyboard is only for arcade and realistic game modes.
Last question:)..do you play more Sim or RB /AB?
RB mostly in WT, When I want to sim I play one of the IL-2 series of sims or DCS world.
I wish I could do the same but I only have a Mac..its funny because I'm decent in Sim and terrible in RB..i can't get any kills in RB but in Sim Im at 51% kill ratio...any advice?
Headons ARE a great idea, Committing to much is a bad idea

What's the background music the first min? Plz help
hms victory just war thunder's theme music it poays random songs
Guys don't worry you can actually kill this thing
cut before collision at the end?
Just noticed that, Fucked up the editing, The fade was meant to go the other way with crash fading into the cinematic.
I killed the F-86, The Hunter killed me then killed himself by crashing into my wreck. Kinda annoyed I messed up that edit, Was bloody funny.
Was only joshing. Taking out several fighters head-on with a bomber is impressive enough!
Any tips for the spitfire magz?
Spitfire mk 1 to mk 2b to be specific
Asoiaf79 Rdr/43 W to increase throttle and mouse to aim and fire, easy KDR of 6 in those planes
Asoiaf79 Rdr/43 no
YOYO MAN i was hoping for tips regarding where is the best altitude for the spit to be fighting at etc
***** Any altitude exceeding 0 meters and not within the stratosphere.
How to do afterburner TU-14t ?
They had every jet engine produce the affect back in the day.

MagzTV I understand what you mean but I still think my idea will make the bombers gameplay much better
Mags ciws will instantly kill you even if your a jet and there are other anti air systems that also wouldn't miss
Isn't that exactly what I said in the video?
isn't tu14t just a copy of il28 :I?
Ahuzah?
ey b0ss
I think torpedoes are a waste.
At the moment they are, But it's much easier to show why when you actually use them and talk through the details.
Right now if given the choice I always take the bombs.
WTs fucked up. What else is new... :-/
:3
fat or fap 3000?
FAB-3000. FAB being the Russian code for *General-purpose air-dropped bomb* and the number being the weight class of the bomb.
classic russian suicide runs
but its so ugly.
