I used to be a dogmatic believer that everything that had value needed a supernatural cause or source for it to be so. Until I became disillusioned with my faith and attended bio psychology.
I learned that consciousness was made up of a long evolutionary process from a hollow dorsal nerve cord millions of years ago from a fish like ancestor.
I was amazed at the totality of thought, perception, and being originated and survived the indifferent hand of nature.
It was the most beautiful revaluation I have had in my life
That despite the cake being made out of mere sugar and flour, that the moment and taste isn't hindered by understanding the naturalistic mechanisms of it.

Why is that? because the universe truly doesn't care about it's various little inhabitants and their little expectations, it's been proven over and over again, jus take some major natural disasters or extinction events as most "colorful" examples of that

After listening to alan watts so much I now hear the word beautiful instead of meaningless when he says that life is meaningless. I used to see life being meaningless as an issue but now I think it's the best possible way for life to be; if you weren't born to fulfill something then there's no wrong answer, you can never wake up one day when you're 50 and say "my god, I've done it all wrong" because if there is no right answer then there cannot be a wrong one. So why not make your own meaning? Or maybe just enjoy the moment and what is. Why try to make sense of being a talking space monkey on a rotating rock when you could instead find other talking space moneys to laugh with and feel good together.

    • @off6848
      @off6848 5 лет назад +13

Pwnership Because laughing and feeling good together is a fleeting thing
Life is a horror the baseline is depression and longing which is why a purpose and a higher power are comforting
“Creating your own meaning” is also just called bullshitting yourself
In the end whatever meaning you think you’re going to create is going to once again smack you in the face as pointless futility and you will default to behaving in whatever way affords you comfort and attention
Still though some are blessed in that they’re wired to be self satisfied with whatever squirrel shit they tell themselves and for them it doesn’t matter whether they created their own meaning or were given it by someone else they’re going to be satisfied till they die

We feel more pressurised when others set the actions and thought processes for us and tell us to blend in. 99% of our life goes into getting aligned with the society and desired behaviour (such as get good job, get married, have kids) and with so much pressure we loose our uniqueness. Even if you ignore the desired behaviour it somewhere makes you question about your own purpose and we get tangled in the threads of life, purpose and meaning. But if you notice carefully you will find those moments which make you really feel alive in that person, in that award, in that love and this boosts the sense of belongingness and gives us peace. So probably we are good at finding peace and meaning anywhere we want to.

Meaning is an option to life, not a requirement.
As far as we know, every other species doesn't care for meaning.
Humans may be the only ones who can care.
Again, it's an option, some people care, some don't.

I am truly humbled and brought to tears by most of the videos on this channel, and often, i feel these videos are the only outlet to the VERY SAME -albeit not verbatim- thoughts, that I have on a daily and almost minute by minute basis....
can you make a video about people who think similarly to these videos? not sure what platform you could take on a video like that but it would be comforting to see..... as most of us who think and feel the same , do not often have others around them with like mindsets..... thank you for this incredible existential channel.

This is literally the video I’ve always needed, for some reason I’ve always had this calling, this calling to do nothing. The desire to do nothing is the most prominent problem I have. It is single handedly my existential crisis. The source of all my problems. I have no motivation, no desire, no longing, no happiness, no sadness, no *nothing*. I am of the age of 13, and feel like an old man who has seen all the wonders of the world. The bags under my eyes, the wrinkles on my forehead, the emotional scars tattooed in my personality, every event, every scene and frame in my movie called, “Life.” leaving its mark on my soul. I am still a blank page, and I hold the pen, yet I halt and I do not draw. I lay awake in my bedroom gazing at my ceiling questioning my existence. “Why am I here?” I think, this question has pondered me for ages. My salvation has always been religion, religion is the key and the gateway to life. Religion is my ANSWER! However, even my answer is pondered in the midsts of my conscious. “What is religion?”. “Is religion real?”. “Is there really an after life or paradise waiting for me at my deathbed?”. These questions without answers, these strings without ends give me chaos. And through the chaos do I find the beauty of life. I have come to the conclusion that the meaning of life is to live. And I will only find the meaning of life, once my life has been lived. So contrary to the belief of many, who believe to live your best life, you must do everything in your power to be the best and rise through a social hierarchy. I conclude, that one can only truly live their best life, by living. Everyone can be successful in the eyes of today’s people. Meaning expensive cars, nice homes, money, power. But, it is our very own minds that confine us from competing such tasks. We are ironically stopping ourselves from achieving our goals. However, once we break through our mental boundaries, and push back the limitations our mind has set upon itself, can we truly blossom. And the key to all of this? *Motivation*. Because without motivation and without any longing to do anything, you are only a blank piece of paper with a pen.

very true. as physicists and a great admirer of cosmology, I can say that many people around me(I guess everyone else) try to ignore the fact that we're so insignificant and we're lost in our own ideas(Religion vs science. In science: GR vs quantum theory. there are many religions but none of them match perfectly). Sometimes I feel like everything comes down to one big question, "Why is there something instead of nothing, and for that matter, what is nothing".I get my motivation from this. I know I am 99.999% likely not to find a solid answer to that big question but still, there always seems to be hope. That hope is so small but so powerful. If you want to feel how it feels to be motivated like me, go out at night alone, and look at the stars and start asking questions. Don't worry, they will never talk back or scold you for asking too many. happy life!

The two main points I got from the video:
    1) We cannot be certain of anything but ourselves. Therefore it is the transformation of the self into a higher self that really matters. Not because the process achieves something, rather because the process is the end goal.
    2) Assuming the first is true, we depend on others for this expansion of the self, therefore, it is through them that we can create meaning.
An additional point to tie it all together:
Since we depend on others, it is by helping others that we can derive our individual and unique purposes. For suffering is the only thing common to all sentient beings, it is my purpose to try to lessen it in this short time I can call myself alive.
