      I try. It's hard to keep the thoughts to myself when I'm a gamer first and a content creator second.
      I do occasionally get called a shill from people who think I only say good things for money, which is a shame, but I think it is clear that I'm being honest in these videos.

    Thank you for the shout out! I have enjoyed playing Forest Shuffle with you, even though you clobbered me the last two times. It's not as good of a tableau builder as earth, but it is easier to teach than earth. It is also much lighter to carry. some people who don't play complex games get intimidated by all the wooden pieces that I love in earth, and the different actions that you do, whereas in forest shuffle you are just flopping down cards so it's more approachable. You're right about the set collections being influenced a lot by chance, and there is a bit of do you continue to press your luck or do you pivot when a set isn't coming together. I have probably played a lot more Ticket to Ride then most gamers have, and I'm OK with that luck of the the draw having some influence on whether my plans work out.

    I know you reached out on the Primal discord, but now that it's finally delivering to Europe - just offering that I would try to be a part of chat for any learn to play stream. Hey Paul - just watched your what I played in May - I split shipped vanguard so last year was circa 25 missions to complete campaign 1 with 3 players - I think it is the best narrative driven campaign game I have ever played - we are 3 missions into lost fleet and thankfully it is just as good - oh and I loved the disruption of that mission 7 or 8 in the first story - told us this was not just rinse wash and repeat away team missions. What amazed me was how attached I got to members of my section as well.

    For me, Nucleum over Barrage over Brass for me. I am very comfortable with Barrage and the variety provided by expansions. I can understand frustrations caused in Barrage but providing you are aware of the possibilities I think it works extremely well. As a newer game, Nucleum has some advantages over the other two for me as I love the game systems more as it allows many strategies in the game. I have no need to select Brass over the other two.

    Thanks Paul for the VLog and sharing your gaming experiences each month. For Nucleum, I definitely see Brass DNA in this one, but I personally haven't really felt the similarities to either Barrage or Concordia at any depth. I am also likely in the minority that feels like each of these games stand on their own and there's room in a collection for all 4 of these, each of which I think very highly of including Barrage which sounds like it was a miss for you.

    22:20 Star Wars Skirmish: Journeys in Middle Earth always seemed VERY time restricted to me. I enjoy exploring around a map and doing everything and that simply is not possible in the Journey app without meeting mission failure. The Star wars Assault campaign app structure has a somewhat similar time element as a point of mission failure. The Rebels can fail their mission if not met in time, and the Rebel forces basically uses Storm Troopers as speed bumps to try and get the Rebels to time out/fail. The Skirmish mode is more of a one off vs mode that can be played with a lot less time restrictions if you wish. That is how I experienced the skirmishes different than the campaign anyways. There are pdfs to print available for the skirmish maps so you can just unroll them play without building the map piece by piece. Lets you get down to laser blasts quicker.

    Totally agree with nucleum. I love brass, like barrage, but nucleum blows them bith away and is my top game. I hold it above lacerdas as well which is hard for me to admit to myself as I'm a lacerda fanatic. The Australia expansion just adds even more to it as well. I really enjoy the 2 person Australia which surprised me.

    Only played Barrage once and it didn't grab me. I prefer Brass Birmingham to Brass (original, not played under Lancashire name) as I think it smoothed a couple of corners (no Birkenhead). I like Nucleum, not played Australia yet. Brass (either) versus Nucleum? Different games, each with their relative pros and cons. Right now Nucleum Australia is top of my want to play list of all of these. But until then I think if one were to disappear and only leave one I'd save Brass Birmingham. But as we have both, let's keep both. But Nucleum needs a bigger box - especially if as I've seen somewhere there's another expansion coming.

  • @MrShizzr
    @MrShizzr 8 месяцев назад +1

    Regarding Nucleum, I'm in the same boat as you. I appreciate both Brass and Barrage, but Barrage is too punishing and too tight in my opinion. And whenever player Brass, it felt like there are not that many options, since you kind of have to decide for one strategy in the beginning and then follow through. The imo more open gameplay or Nucleum appeals to me way more, I'd always prefer that over Brass and Barrage 🙂

  • @Strangekabuki

    I've been reluctant to spring for Vanguard. I've heard so many positive things I got really excited. But from reviews and comments I think I wouldn't stop the considerable $ on it. It has nothingbyo do with the game in general, but it doesn't look like it fits my style. Anytime you hear lots of reviewers going on forever about spoilers, is a bad sign for me. I like games with high replayability. I will often restart campaigns over and over from the start. Not to “crack” the winning path, but to explore different aspects. From what I have seen Vanguard is not a very open world. The story it does tell is highly praised. But being a solo player, I will ofter run ttrpgs with zero battles and all dialogue. But I will say the production looks awesome and the system interesting. But being on a limited budget $125+ for a play once game is a bit beyond my means.

    The issue I have with ISS Vanguard is the actual game part is at best mediocre and at worst repetitive, shallow and dull. It’s the first game that I wish was just a book or graphic novel.
