Happy New Year! My Introduction to the modern boardgames hobby came after playing TTRPGS for 30 years so it's interesting to see it from the other perspective . I'm glad you enjoyed Call of Cthulhu! Do you think you might be tempted to play other RPG systems?
Maybe in Kathmandu the map exchange could be made optional - so that both players can agree to trade or not, rather than one player just saying "I'm taking that map tile, here's a tile you don't want". That would turn it into a positive interaction rather than feeling more like a mugging.
When talking about Res Arcana Duo, you kept mentioning "Renard" and how he shows his face a lot. I got a little chuckle out of that since "renard" in French is "fox". I would translate the channel name "Renard Ludique" to "fox who games", so I guess calling him a fox sorta works! 😄
Unconscious Mind took us a long time to learn. As the game went on, turns started to feel too long with too many decisions to make. Activate the Freud space twice, move him, do up to 5 actions, move him again, do up to 5 actions, move your inkpot but wait because you can modify how far you move it, so figure out the best space to move it to. I feel like it would have benefitted a lot from simultaneous turns, so you at least don’t spend so much time waiting, but I tend to feel that way about a lot of games. The systems are interesting but it was all a bit much.
17:31 ahm... there are no penguins in the Arctic. They all live in and arround the Antarctic (Polar Bears and Penguins never meet in the wild, as they live on the different poles). Those penguin-look-alike birds in this game seem to be Puffins (who indeed live in the north; both kinds of animals look alike, but are not closely related).
thanks! having played it now, i'd say it was robbed and should have won. sky team is great and all, but a LOT of people will hate it, and it's only for 2p. spiel des jahres should be as widely appealing as possible imo :)
@@rahdoSky Team winning despite being 2p only is a testament to how awesome it is. Harmonies is a good/average abstract family weight take and make game. Cascadia is 100x superior.
Hi Rahdo. Happy New Year. 1. I wish you did Atlantis Exodus runthrough on the channel as you see there is no such a gameplay exept the one you presented (which I did not enjoy unfortunatelly). 2. Harmonies or Spectacular? Or both? 😀 3. Still waiting for Civolution on a channel 😀
1. well i'll be putting it to a vote again in jan if the backers of the show on patreon would like to see it in action :) 2. spectacular for sure. harmonies is great, but not spectacular great :) 3. when we realized we had to come home early, i decided to wait on playing/filming it until we got home because i'd have access to a much bigger table. hopefully this weekend i'll be able to get to it!
Have you not played Civolution yet? I saw it on your table. If you have, i wonder why it is not in your list for this month. In my opinion, it is, as you like to often say, "amazeballs!"
hoping to get it played by this weekend. when your travel plans changed, i decided to wait till i was back home rather than trying to squeeze the whole thing on to the tiny RV dinette table! :)
Surprised to see atlantis exodus only at number 12 given that you only had positive things to say. Are there some red flags for this game? Or just a strong month and a thus lot of competition?
I agree. Super minor, but Rahdo and his wife hate any kind of Take That mechanisms, no matter how minor. Even stuff like the minor Take That card play in Terraforming Mars really bothers them. To each their own. But the gun on the table analogy was quite humorously over-the-top for those of us not living in the US!! LOL!
My wife and I agreed to not attack with any of those cards. At two players dragons are way more valuable to use with synergic places of power to get points anyway, so we don't even bother playing them otherwise, not efficient.
Happy New Year Richard and Jen🎉🎆🎇.
Looking forward to another great year of game exploration with you.

if the opportunity presents itself :)
This is a first for me. Rahdo couldn't inject a theme in to a game? Good job Scout, you are unique! Happy new Year!
well the circus theme was a nice consideration, but it didn't quite get across the finish line for me :)
Can’t wait to see more about Nova Era. And need to play Fliptown at some point too.
it's new year. take a break, richard. wish you a great holiday!

Fliptown also one of my favorites! 🎲
Just a great game!
Nice list of games. Nova Era looks cool.
Happy new year!

What is the playmat on which they’re playing Flower Fields? 1:32:36
i have no idea, but it is lovely!
Hello Richard!
When we can expect to see the Civolution review?
Thanks!!
this month for sure. it's next in my queue to play (had to get baghdad: city of peace done first)
Hi, anyone have a link to the BGG Reviewer Medalist thread Rhado talks about during Harmonies?
Here ya go! i should put that in the show notes for this episode! :)

ah, i was just going from fractured memory when i said penguin! good on the pub for knowing the difference :)
Harmonies was nominated for Spiel des Jahres, but didn‘t make it to the top three. The winner was Sky Team!

Welcome back! How come you decided to go to Ireland?
we're thinking of moving there full time so we're going to check it out for that :)
That game was Barbarians!
thank you! :)

@rahdo Of course, that makes sense. I am just hoping you enjoy it as much as I do.
@@rahdoVERY good call!

no red flags at all, it just came in at 12 because there were 11 games i dug more (it was a very good month!)
Your know RPGe are not for you when even Rahdo with his infectious passion can't get you excited about it.
1:30:34 And ironically, you spent more time talking about games lower on your list than your top games of the month! :-
yeah that tends to happen :)
Res Arcana original is great. The dragon attacks are so minor, I don’t know why you are so upset about it. You are missing out on a brilliant game.
i'm not upset about them, but i did talk at length in my original video as to why they ruined the game for us, and reiterated it here :)
