Absolutely amazing how much better the survival rate is for preterm babies nowadays. And oddly enough, we have freak shows to thank! The very first incubators were set up & run by freak shows. People would pay to see the infants & the money went towards their care.
After my sister had her 2nd preterm baby they just told her to stop having babies b/c twice was not a coincidence and she got lucky the first two made it without problems. Same exact thing happened to our oldest sister so I was scared when I got pregnant the first time! But that boy was born a week late 😂 His sister was late too 5 years later. Oddly enough our youngest sister went preterm with hers following that so it seems like I was blessed that mine went to term + some b/c Im the only one out of 4 sisters with no preemies. Has to be something genetic that thankfully missed me!
Absolutely loved Sister Evangilina. If i had to pick a perfect midwife from the show it'd be her. Calm and cool, no fuss, no nonsense. She reminds me of my midwife 😅
Mrs. Wimbish has lost three babies within their first six months and has set her hopes on following the advice of American sensation, Dr. Spock, to keep this one alive. When her baby daughter is delivered prematurely and is taken away to a special unit at another hospital, the mother is concerned that she won’t be getting the breastmilk that could be vital to her health and survival. Barbara convinces Sister Evangelina to allow her to help Mr. Wimbish express her milk and then offers to deliver it to the hospital herself several times a day.

Her other baby's were early and they didn't make it, most babies who come that early die bc they're not fully developed
@@Babygirl_4200These days the survival rate for babies at 33 weeks gestation is nearly 100%. Surfactant treatment has worked miracles.
@@Babygirl_4200next. They mean what happened next. Not what was already explained on screen, genius
