I did not even know who Alan Turning was so I looked him up. A brilliant man that was condemned for who he was.

Yet he married her, provided for her and wants to be in her life even if he is not physically attracted to her. The list of gay men who married/engaged with women is long. Think of Elton John or Freddy Mercury or Formular One Pilot Ralf Schuhmacher. This episode takes place in the 60ies where homosexuality is considered a crime that will get you in prison, work camp or worse.

He did what was expected of him. And he did love her, just in a platonic way. Being gay was illegal, and he not only got arrested, he lost his job, and people in the streets are basically spitting at him. His life is ruined. I don't even want to think about how that must haver been like.

This is probably from Call the midwife. It's an incredible show not only the characters and content but it really shows what life was like then and what challenges women and children and doctors faced during that time. It's phenomenal

He really didn't have a choice during that time. It's like people have zero understanding of the past. Get your head out of the sand things weren't simple or black and white. Sure, he could have cleared it with the girl he married but there is a chance she would have said no and then told the whole community.

He ruined their children’s lives. A child from a broken home is likely a target of predators. Splitting up would put them in poverty. His being convicted would put them in poverty. Isn’t it weird how divorce and single parenting widespread but the phrase two income homes used as well today? So it is be alone or stuck with a man who isn’t interested and never was interested in you. Who will be cheating most likely. He does cheat. He should have stayed single.

In that time it was very different. You can't put today's options and opinions on something that happened in a time when being gay was illegal and women were not allowed to have bank accounts in their own name. If she let him go she looses his income, her housing, the protection of having a husband. Where would she go with her new baby? She can't work because it was perfectly legal to refuse to higher a mother in those days, especially a divorced one. Yes, now she could let him go but it wasn't that simple back then

The man is disgusting for getting married. If he would have never married the women would not be pregnant and or have a husband that has embarrassed the family.

She should just let him go to prison? because that's the choice here. he goes to prison or he takes these pills.

This man goes to a doctor because he is gay and it was a crime back then. So he seeks for a treatment to cure it or make it less obvious. More like the people who bastardized abrahamic religions need to apologize. Most of these texts do not explicitly say it's wrong and people often look for more context. For instance in the Bible when it's mentioned it is specifically referencing places like Sodom. Who had way more problems than people being gay which is the actual point. People were partying and sleeping with everything that moves and even sacrificing young v*rgins. Which sounds way more sinful than people choosing to be in a committed relationship. But no one wants to critically think about religion because God forbid they question religions.

You realize a problem in China and nothing Abrahamic about China. Northeast Asia had Confucism. Duty to parents, including procreation to carry on the line and for there to be more people to support the elders vital for centuries. It’s only been since the early 20th century there had been a war on babies.
