    salty ride boys. Love the yete mugs. My partner and I are bareboat charter in a Beneteau 41 sailboat out of Newport Rhode Island in two weeks and selling out to Martha’s Vineyard Block Island and Narragansett bay for nine days. I wish everybody can experience the feeling of being on the water, the breeze in your face, the decompression, relaxation and the rocking to sleep at night.

    Aj & Tim.. I really appreciate your travel videos. The Admiral & I are ferrying up our new to us Pilot house mini ship from Charleston Sc to our home port In Rouses Point Ny, We stopped to winter at AYB and now that the locks have reopened for the season its time to continue the adventure. I wasn't going to head into the Cape May canal cause at first glance it didn't have my minimal requirements. After watching your latest Video with you entering/traveling through it made me look further into the task. We draw 6.5' & now we will travel through on the building tide and anchor off the Coast Guard station and stand for the weather window before heading up. I wanted to personally (the Best i can for now) thank you for taking the time to give us vision through your filming of areas I've never traveled. We Very Much Appreciate both of you For this. As always, another great video. It was a shame you did not get to stay overnight in Chesapeake City. It's a beautiful little town created when they dug the canal. You made a journey over 100 miles look easy. I will never forget the one time I was on the Cape May ferry with my partners parents, we were on the top deck outside and I noticed a group of people water skiing in the bay and I said "Oh they have matching swim suits" a minute later I said " Oh they don't have swim suits on". Well they gave our boat of 200 or 300 people quite a show.

    Great video as always. As I (we) ponder the "next boat" we consider an "older" motor yacht and a refit versus a "newer" m/y with a substantial price tag.
    Is there anything in a newer yacht you wish you had? Or, are you COMPLETELY satisfied with everything on OLOH?

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  Год назад +2

      Hey Lee - so glad you enjoyed it.
      Wow - that's a good and big question. I don't think any boater is ever completely satisfied with everything on their boat no matter when it was built. There are always going to be compromises and there are definitely features common with new or newer builds that we'd really like to have, but honestly nothing that couldn't be retrofit. We think we've done a pretty good job so far with the modern upgrades we've made but there will always be something on the want list that might be on the build sheet of a new vessel.

    Hi! I recently discovered your channel and really have been enjoying catching up on your videos. They're all very well done. I can't remember which video but I believe you mentioned you have image stabilized binoculars. If I did hear that correctly, can you share which brand and model you have? We're looking for a pair for our boat and there are so many out there. Thanks for sharing your adventures!

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  Год назад +2

      Hi Frank - Thanks so much for your kind words! We were looking for what we felt was a solid balance of quality and price when researching our stabilized binoculars. We landed on the Canon 18x50 (model 4624A002) and, while not inexpensive, they were certainly less pricey than much of what’s out there. We do love and recommend them and in directing people to them over the last year had found that they didn’t seem to be available any longer, though a quick search shows they appear to be back. When they were not available, a couple of our friends bought the 15x50 version (model) which are about $200 less and they have been pleased with their choice. Hopefully that will get you started - let us know if you have any questions. Cheers!

    Great video. If memory serves, that wild turquoise yacht was built for a central American magnate who also owned an even bigger yacht. Delaware Bay can be really dangerous -- an old friend with thousands of sea miles under his belt was doing a delivery on a smallish powerboat and mistakenly transited with tide against strong wind and said it was the closest he ever came to disaster.

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  Год назад +1

      We've always planned that transit carefully and have never fortunately never experienced anything like the horror stories we so often hear. We'll always wait it out. Another example of why the worst thing to have on a boat is a schedule.

    Hi AJ. Love all your videos! You and Tim do such a great job. What really made me comment here is curiosity of what brand of boat shoes you both have in the video and how do you like them? Any other recommendations? I'm in the market for something waterproof and non-slip, non-marking for washing our Formula 45 that we will soon be purchasing and bringing home from Staten Island to the Chesapeake - via the C& D Canal ;)

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  Год назад +1

      Hey James - great boat you're buying! Very exciting. We are not in the same location of our shoes at the moment but we believe they are from Columbia, perhaps their Bahama line. We like em', don't love em'. They are canvas which can be a little constrictive. The shoes we used to have and loved were much more sporty and flexible and unfortunately are no longer made. So we're on the hunt too. Columbia looks like they have some other good options and we're just seeing some new stuff from Sperry that we'll take a look at. We go for lightweight, non-marking soles and prefer a slip-on rather than lace-up, more of a sneaker than a traditional boat shoe. We'll post about it on our Facebook page if we land on something.
      Have an amazing voyage home and best of luck with the new ride.

    Clearly new boaters and btw, with a boat that size, why were you afraid of the bay with 20 knot winds, LMAO, I went all the time from Patapsco to Sassafras in a 42 footer.

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching but confused by your comment. If you're suggesting we're new boaters, we are not. Decades on the water, on OLOH since 2017. But we are PLEASURE boaters. Yes, our boat can handle a 20 knot blow, but why endure a wet and sloppy choppy day when we can wait one more and enjoy the calm? That's how we roll anyway - and our pup in particular appreciates it. Afraid would be a mischaracterization. Just different strokes. Cheers!

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  Год назад +1

      Great catch Clark Kent - and obviously we did not intend to mislead anyone. We inadvertently implied that the vertical clearance on the bridge was 80’ where that number actually applies to the horizontal clearance. An unfortunate juxtaposition of numbers after a long day.

    • @clarkkent772
      @clarkkent772 Год назад

      @@OLOH I’m not a “Hater” it’s just that I have seen posts on blogs that others take as fact and end up in trouble. Listing the highway bridge horizontal clearance as 80’ suggests that the bridge is the narrowest point, when in fact the railroad bridge has a horizontal clearance of only 50’. Rule of thumb. Don’t be specific unless you are offering helpful guidance. Otherwise I really enjoyed your video. Nice camera work. Very interesting. We have made the trip several times, but there is always new things to see..👍
