      Nick Wilhelm I would assume like any major league they will grow slowly over time

    • @paulrabil
      @paulrabil 6 лет назад +10

      Awesome question, Nick. And yes, as we grow the PLL -- on-field, on-screen, for fans who attend and watch -- the sport will grow. As this happens, we'll have the evidence to expand by adding more teams in the PLL, giving more opportunity to players. We feel like the PLL tour-based model (1) helped us bring the best players and teams into emerging lacrosse markets, growing the game, (2) positioned us to secure a major media rights deal with NBC Sports Group, and (3) it gives us the ability to expand both the number of teams, locations, and potentially, a city-based model in the future. Hope that helps!

    This is a big step in the sport of Lacrosse so thank you to both TLN and Paul for helping growing this sport to a national level. Paul the question I have for you is how will this differ from a league like the LXM pro tour? How will it be similar? Will the league allow players to express themselves with their equipment or will be strict like the NFL where you are allowed to wear colors other than your teams colors on certain dates?

    • @paulrabil
      @paulrabil 6 лет назад +2

      Thanks for the note, Mike. Great question.
      Here's how the LXM was similar. They were tour-based, they had dynamic, talented players, and they competed. Here's what the PLL has done to be additive:
      - 6 teams instead of 2
      - Top players and coaches in the world assigned to teams
      - Full regular season, all-star game, playoffs and championship
      - College draft every year
      - Major media rights deal with NBC (games on TV and digital)
      - Playing at state-of-the-art venues (like the Final Four)
      - Major sponsors
      - More to come :)
      Regarding our league policies, we're going to govern similarly to the NBA, where players are embraced for their style, personalities, and athleticism -- but we are also embracing the highest level of competition in the world, between team uniforms, practices, game structure, rules, and more.

We'll be announcing those partnerships soon!

    How can other players try out for the PLL?

    • @minhcao1838
      @minhcao1838 6 лет назад +1

      Garrett Eddy this is a good question. I would assume that players who try out would have to have some of the following skills in addition to being a talented Lacrosse athlete. Have already or being able to create a social media following/RUclips channel/attract a big audience. If no one ever heard Mr. John O’Conner then you need to be ready to open up your life and provide details that’s fun an exciting for viewers. It’s going to be viewers choice and their voices will be heard so let yourself be known!

    • @paulrabil
      @paulrabil 6 лет назад +6

      Great question, Garrett. So far, we've announced players who will be playing in the PLL in 2019, with more to come. In the next few weeks, we'll be announcing our head coaches. These coaches will be responsible for game weeks. Just like the NBA, NFL, or MLB, the PLL will be comprised of the best players in the world, and should there be an outside player that's talented enough to make a roster, we anticipate our coaches discovering those talents, giving them workout opportunities, and adding them to their team's active roster.
      Growing up, we tryout for our middle school, high school, and club teams, yes. I remember those days of mile runs, one-on-ones, and shooting competitions. There will not be tryouts for the PLL -- there will be training camps, though -- and no different than college lacrosse, if there's a walk-on candidate at a universtiy that's good enough to play, that college coach will add him or her to their team. In the PLL, if there are candidates out there who are talented enough to play, the coaches of the PLL will sign them.

    • @paulrabil
      @paulrabil 6 лет назад +1

      Great question. We're excited to share more news on our broadcast production style (which has a lot to do with how the game is viewed and understood), as well as the game structure and rules. For the rules, we created a PLL Rules Committee that consists of some of our top players, agencies, and Lacrosse Advisory Board, to make those decisions. We're data-oriented, rely on surveys, and the history of the game. The game will not feel abstract. Most of the rules we've grown to love at the high school, college, pro and international level will be set. When we announce our game structure and rules, we'll be focused on:
      1. 10 v 10
      2. Pace of play
      3. Sensible rules (those that make sense to a lacrosse fan and non-lacrosse fan)
      4. Possession and goal scoring opportunities
      Excited to share more. What rules would you like to see come and go?

    Paul are PLL teams going to scrimmage/play against college teams in the preseason? I figured this may help advertise the league considering college is currently the biggest stage for lacrosse, for example I heard about the US national team you play for along with many other players on the current PLL roster because I watched team USA scrimmage Notre Dame a few years back. As a long time lacrosse fan I really hope and believe the PLL will succeed and help push lacrosse in the right direction it deserves to be in I also firmly believe you are the right man for this job. On a side note while I don’t how feasible it would be for the players given how busy you all must be I thought it also might benefit for some of the big name players like yourself to go to areas where lacrosse isn’t as big like the Midwest and visit places like middle and elementary schools and possible have an exhibition for the kids. I feel like tapping into the younger generation is really what will fuel the sport for the future when a kid sees you guys shoot and dodge at the level youre at how could they not love it and want to play. I know this was long but I figured if you read it and I could benefit you guys or the sport at all it’s worth it, best of luck I’m really rooting for the PLL.
    P.S. Would love to see a game in MoCo could imagine a huge crowd given our community here

    I understand the tour based system at the start, but it’d be nice to go city based after they expand into a large league. It could help build allegiances and rivals in my opinion

    With so many areas in the US, so many states, that just don’t have large enough municipalities to entice a major sports team to their area, this could be a massive gamechanger IF I’m understanding this correctly. Sounds like we’ll have six teams (thinks up random team names), the Raccoons, the Dragons, the Fury, the Rocks, the Stags, and the Archers (had to) and these will be wandering nomadic teams that play in 12 different cities across the US. No home fields. No hometown fans. You just pick a team. As someone not from a state with major league teams, I’ve been doing this my whole life. There is no automatic bias because the Rocks represent New England and the Archers represent New York and those two regions tend to be rivals in most sports. Fresh start. Just pick a team. I love it IF that’s what this is.

    Will there be a draft to decide teams. If so when will it be and will it be televised like all other major sport drafts. I think that would be a step that would already get people devoted to a team and a league.

    I wish there were higher levels for women’s lacrosse too, I appreciate and totally support the men’s lacrosse development but I really want the same opportunity as a woman to play at a high level. This is a great video and I learned so much about the growth and this new league! Really excited to see what the future holds for this sport :)

    Would you consider getting a contract together with HULU as well? I know a lot of people around my age 20-28 usually only have Netflix and Hulu type media outlets and I think it would be another venue to show the sport’s growth on.

    Do you see this eventually turning into something similar to the NFL with the NFC and AFC, but in this situation having the PLL and MLL as the conferences and then creating a larger governing body? Where the PLL and MLL compete for their playoffs and then there is the PLL winner vs the MLL winner in one big championship like the super bowl?

    I really hope they keep it aTour based league because that’s my favourite part about the pll if they go city based I will not know who to cheer for (like In other sports) which leads to less interested in the league
