    As a fan in the Midwest, what were the reasons behind not placing one of the teams in the Midwest region? Looking back on the 2023 ticket sales Columbus, Louisville, and Minneapolis all were great stops last season. I’m hopeful that one of the 2 remaining regular season stops will be in the Midwest during the 2024 season.

    I like this. This was such an important thing to get right and I think the league has done just that. As the league grows more and more and, I imagine, the touring model starts to wind down and slowly become a more traditional league model as the teams get more and more entrenched within their home markets, this is a good foundation to build outward for a more sustainable future. I understand that a lot of people in the Midwest, Texas, and Florida are disappointed, but I know you guys are probably right at the front of the line for expansion. Excited for where this goes.

    The continued negligence of the Midwest needs to be addressed. The fact that I live by Chicago and the 2 closest clubs to me are Denver and Philly is absurd. How is anyone in the general central USA gonna be able to connect to any of these new clubs for those who are looking to get into the sport and the league. Either the PLL is just looking to make a profit to grow the league and hopefully expand or they just dont care about growing the game in the midwest. Either way, they need to be transparent about it and tell us why they keep ignoring us lax fans here in the midwest.

    For the immediate future it would make sense to put teams in smaller markets - places that don't have franchises in the major sports leagues. Those types of communities typically embrace more fringe sports like lacrosse. They tend to sell more tickets, have more sell outs and make more money at the gate and from merchandizing. Downside is, you want to be in the major markets for TV - although a sold out game with a crowd going nuts (in a smaller city) looks much better on TV than half-empty stadium with fans falling asleep. Makes sense to start in smaller markets and move to larger ones as the popularity of the sport grows - although TV might not allow for that.

      it’s really relative. Lacrosse’s hotbeds historically viewership and play wise in the US are largely centered on the east coast where pro sports have a large following in general. What Lacrosse has going for it really is the timing of its season as it only really competes with Baseball and Soccer for viewership. While soccer is gaining popularity it is still quite niche in the US so Lacrosse definitely has a solid chance of gaining a footing even with the niche nature of it. Mad heads play and watch field on Long Island despite being right next to NYC and having ample opportunities to play other sports, it’s just part of our culture. Would be really weird and quite frankly offensive to the history of Lacrosse in the US to not put a team close to the market. Same with Maryland etc. Something to be said about giving a nod to the populaces that kept the game around while it wallowed in obscurity for decades. We had the Lizards well before the PLL, and have been playing well before it got big with the NCAA. Small market strategies while solid on paper don’t work with every situation.

    The Waterdogs should have been placed ANYWHERE in the Midwest; probably Columbus.
    Reasons why it shouldn’t have been Philly:
    1) They’re right in between NY and MD so those fans could choose either one of those cities to root for as their home, OR just pick a random or their current team regardless of location.
    2) Keeping championship weekend in Philly is a centrally location between the other 4 teams on the east coast AND it would be a “neutral” city for teams playing
    3) Columbus/OH is a big enough market with OSU and surrounding states to make it work

    It’s clear that Paul Rabil didn’t want to take a chance on new pro lacrosse markets and he is stuck in the old ways of the MLL. Disappointing that they teased cities like Chicago, Louisville and Nashville (which have a ton of lacrosse) to stick with home cities everyone has already seen in the MLL. Takes excitement out of the league as it was meant to grow the sport. They made it seem like they were moving to new ways to grow the game. The Midwest is not as historic or popular as New England (bordering where lacrosse originated) and East Coast. Colorado was chosen bc of the huge fan base from the MLL and NLL teams winning in championships past. LA has a large fan base with the San Diego Seals and the lacrosse market on the west coast is growing bc of the NLL.

    NOT putting teams in Southern Ontario or the greater Vancouver Areas is a huge miss for the league. Having a Canadian team would have allowed for TV coverage and merchandise sales across the entire country - like what happens for the Raptors and Blue Jays. Not to mention that in the NLL, the five Canadian teams average attendance last year was 9,274 while the average attendance for the 10 US teams was only 6,912 (basically 30% more fans at the games in Canada). Five of the top 10 attendance markets for the NLL are in Canada and the 5 markets with the lowest attendance are ALL in the states.
    There are plenty of Canadian players. There should have been at least one - probably 2 teams in Canada.

      Give it some time. If in 4 years we don't have an expansion then I'll be mad. In the expansion get midwest/minnesota, texas, and two Canadian teams. Eventually in 10 years hopefully it can expand to 16 with places like oregon/washington, tennesee, chicago, and maybe another canadian team.

  • @rotinaj4020
    @rotinaj4020 Год назад

    Those cities that have teams now, enjoy it while it lasts. As soon as the PLL figures out they can make more money without expansion by having teams in Las Vegas and LA, they will pull denver, utah Carolina. you better hope ticket and merchandise sales hit their quota.

      Lol come on you guys know it’s going to be NYC.. Rabil is a clown… then he’s on espn announcing the teams and they’re just running clips rushing him off the set not even giving him any time. No one cares about the PLL… it will be like the mll just existing in the land of irrelevancy and profit loss for years until he just gives it up. He should of went to markets that were unique instead of all the eastern lacrosse hotbeds… it’s such a lax bro move though so not surprised. I’m from Philly and love lacrosse but still just seeing all the fans in the comments from under developed lacrosse areas - or so people think - are actually hype on lacrosse and would support a team… we out in the northeast are already immersed in lacrosse it’s not new or exciting.. he should’ve went to places like Nashville, Texas, even Vegas. At least then it’s something new and you know at least for a little bit crowds will
      probably be huge.

    • @bitmonkey9267

      Feels like trying the same thing and hoping for another outcome... should have taken some risk in developing a new market or two. Never going to grow if you keep playing in the same markets over and over, and they should have just stuck with the touring model. Hard to root for and identify with a team down here in Texas anymore. Not going to cheer for another region's team, especially a NE team :D

    I understand that people are upset about the midwest not having a team but with the tour based style staying I think that can push people in the midwest to go out to games and show that they deserve a team or two which they definitely do.

      @Anonymous2.2 Год назад +3

    • @bitmonkey9267
      @bitmonkey9267 Год назад +1

      But now that teams are assigned to cities, why would I go see the tour? Sure, hardcore lacrosse lovers will go see the tour, but the PLL already has hardcore lacrosse fans locked up. I think its "lacrosse curious" that they should be cultivating for growth, and that's the developmental markets that they should have had a team or two in. The main reason I would go would be so support my regional team, not for the love of the game (yet). No way I want to go see two costal teams play, I have no interest or investment in them; and there's no way I could convince my non-lacrosse buddies to go see NY play LA here in the south. Ticket sales make up 25% or so of most successful sports league's revenues. TV and merch revenue is king. They ignored the entire south, including many of the top sports markets in the country. I know it's weird, but wish they could have kept at least one roaming homeless team for us to take an interest in.

Sounds like the PLL is trying to stunt the growth of lacrosse in Canada but regardless we will still win Gold at the olympics in 2028.

    Ohio should have a team , Columbus not getting one just does not make sense, and yet Utah gets one and you are trying to claim that its because of amount of ticket sales/venue availability being why they got one...? I would rather you just admit that we forgot about it instead of decided to pick Utah over a team in the Midwest. And then jam 5 teams in a 400 mile radius on the east coast? Seems like capitalizing off where lacrosse is ALREADY popular instead of spacing the programs out to allow more regions to access the professional game?
