Rick’s mentioned a woman from his past named Hannah a few times. Invite her and just enjoy the tension triangle created as Rick asks her about running (away from commitments).
Andy is so humble but such a badass. Olympian but also first in aerospace engineering from Cambridge! Two things very well done indeed. Must have impressive determination as well as innate ability.
Started listening on spotifty while i was running on the treadmill but then my husband stole it from me (we're too cheap for the duo plan 🙄), so I had to switch and finish on RUclips, so I was very glad it was here! Love listening as always. Come for the good content, stay for the fun banter. 🙂 (Katrina from Canada )
Great episode, I love the energy between you three. Delighted hear that all future episodes will be on you RUclips as it's definitely my preferred way to enjoy the podcast, although I have to admit until a few weeks ago I didn't realise I was only getting half of the episodes so I'm now listening to ones I've missed while I'm at work to help the day pass quicker. Rick may be surprised the Sarah got a first, personally I'm more surprised that Sarah was a Big Stone given how quick she is 😲 (From Dundee, Scotland)
4:32 OMS , I'm Team Sarah, obviously! I both watch and listen. The visual interaction between Andy Scratchhead, Sarah Smugsmile and Rick Buttonpusher is hilarious! As a non-native speaker I sometimes don't get every detail, particularly when everyone is speaking lively at once or too fast for me. That's not bad, please don't change! Rewind and slow-down buttons do exist on Spotify for a reason, and I do love the subtitles on RUclips, improving my English bit by bit by Bri'ish banter X-D
You guys are awesome. So fun. I’m a mum of 7 and my eldest son occasionally goes out running early hours of morning. It’s something that we as women could not do. We should be safe , but reality is we have to think about things differently. Where we park a car if it’s going to be dark or late when we come back to it. If I’m running on a quiet road , I am automatically more alert. I don’t let it stop me though. As to interesting people. The two lads (brothers ?) running across Australia. Then there is an American chap who was on the Mark Lewis pod cast , who lost a huge amount of weight, and running was instrumental. So inspirational. He was American.
Did NYC, Berlin, Chicago, and was supposed to to Tokyo next month but I fractured my foot a few weeks ago! I’m so bummed!!!! Ugh!!!! So close!!!! I want to literally cry! I’m running Chicago again in the fall so at least I’ll have that. 😢
I'm glad you said that, sarah, that you lost your mojo or love for running. I've currently realised I've over trained both mentally and physically. A run is a bind right now.
You are my favorite distraction from climbing Mt. Washmore and Mt. Fold-me, so I "watch" on RUclips. (Realistically, I'm listening, but occasionally glance over to the computer.)
I know a runner who's likely to get her 3rd 6-star medal very soon (10th person in the world if she gets it). Two medals next to each other do look crazy :).
(Listened to the pod, so will just imagine the head-touching (!)) Loved the pods you've done with Mo and Jess (and others) in the past. Any chance you can keep a rotation for "guest" slots going, including James and Anna? I enjoy the range of views and opinions, and guest slots will stop the chemistry between the usual triumvirate from becoming stale. (Surrey, UK, for Rick)
Hi guys. Just a response to one of the questions about where do we listen . I download the podcasts here on RUclips and I play the video and listen ( I don't watch and drive I promise !)😂
What about some audio post-production? The levels of the voices goes up and down, If I listen to the podcast on the move it's sometimes very difficult to understand everything, especially Andy's volume is very low sometimes. Compressors and limiters can help here.
I look at doing half marathons (or even 70.3 Ironmans) getting to the start line ready to go you've already won. The event is more of a celebration of all the work. The hard part of events like marathons etc.. is you can't do everything right and on that one day things like bad weather, covid cancellations (covid era), or even just a bad timing of even a slight illness and not getting to reap the rewards.
Having never run competitively at school, I would love to see/hear you interview a school coach (university or lower-level) to hear about how they approach training teams and individuals. How they get the most out of their atheletes, etc.
I’d like to see you interview Chris Evans - he inspired me several years ago when I started running and I went to his first two RunFest events. Now that would be an entertaining podcast.
16wks training is required. So coming back from injury with peak weekly kms of 27km for the whole week with my longest run of 9km and doing Tokyo in a week is not ideal. Can’t believe 1 weeks training is not recommended. 😅
Aerospace Engineering vs. Drama?, I'm so sorry Sarah, but Andy wins no question. I'd imagine the structure and discipline required in the study of Aerospace Engineering would lend itself quite well to the rigors required to be a world class athlete. Is this true?
A big fan from Canada here. I too would like to know exactly what gavi is. I googled it and found the Italian wine. Is this it? From the context, it doesn’t quite seem right though. Also what does it mean to get a first?
@@mariegreen2203 No problem Marie. I had never heard of it until I watched these videos. It is mentioned in almost every podcast. Good luck with your running journey.
I would say that may be a bit of a stretch unless your current fitness has been gained with quite a lot of time on feet (walking or hiking) only because building weekly mileage can be somewhat punishing, especially as we near (or have passed) 60. If you’re going to attempt it, I strongly urge pursuing run-walk (8 and 2 or 9 and 1) as that approach really does slower the stress on the body.
@@cannuckchick7522 I’ve just taken a look at the marathon training plan from This Messy Happy and it looks a bit daunting tbh. I’m currently doing 4 or 5 miles twice a week but still may not be enough. Think I’ll start training now for next year 😂
You might be fine, if your base fitness is ok and you aren't injury prone then maybe. You probably want to do at least 5 weeks beforehand to train for the marathon training, that's still basically assuming everything goes perfectly. Lots of people blow up trying to do a couch to marathon.
Who would I like to see you interview? Three icons of the marathon: Kathrine Switzer, Deena Kastor, and Meb Keflezighi. And ultra marathon icon Harvey Lewis.
Woah, Rick you went to Aberystwyth same time as me, class of 2004, we have mutual friends. I did film so spent a lot of time in Lanbardarn campus. What did you study?
Would it be possible to get some comments on the ‘RunnerBoi’ exposé of Kate Carter (“Running Journalist Caught CHEATING in Marathons?”) in your next podcast? Not taking a side just want to know where the current production team stand on the allegations
When running with a wrist heart monitor I find them inaccurate. Has anyone tried wearing the watch underneath the wrist so it can’t read the heart rate better? Maybe a test for someone.
I think all the algorithms to convert the capillary dilation detected through light assume the top of the wrist so I don't think it would be more accurate. The main problem isn't the accuracy though, it's the delay. The accuracy of the good ones isn't too bad but it's when you think you are skipping along at 150bpm then it suddenly spikes to 180.
@@runningchannel I heard Taylor used running as a way to prepare for her tour. I think it would be interesting to hear about that and maybe even try her training schedule. I picked Sara simply because she's my favorite. Always informative and making me laugh.

Hooray for having this on RUclips every episode!
An interview with Russ Cook, the guy who is currently running the length of Africa, would be amazing 🙂
Genuinely enjoy your rapport every episode, even when you get massively side-tracked. 😆 Thanks for putting the podcast on RUclips every week!

Please talk to Sifan … I would be so delighted … she seems like such an interesting person and her running is just wild!! Please please Sifan

Is it possible for a newbie runner kicking 60 with a degree of fitness to train for a marathon in 16 weeks, or is that too much to consider?
For sure, you can definitely finish a marathon. Can you run it in a specific time? That’s a different matter.

Yes to filming every episode!
I don’t watch for Andy touching his head. I watch for Sarah pointing and Rick waving his hands.
Try and chat with Beau Miles, that would be amazing!
