The Habitat Interior Construction Begins On The Overland Expedition Truck | Ep 9

- Опубликовано: 4 июл 2024
- In this episode I begin the interior construction on what will become my living quarters and the garage space. I install insulation in the rear section of the habitat that we fabricated to match the insulation properties of the forward military section. Plywood walls go up to divide the garage from my home and provide a solid wall to mount all of the electronic components that will power the rig.
I also christen the truck with a new logo that proudly displays her name- Baobab, and add more Drive The Globe logos to the exterior.
Follow along as I completely outfit and custom fabricate my home on wheels. In this video series I will detail all of the components and build steps that go into completing the ultimate overland expedition vehicle build.

🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅 SO GREAT ! 🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅 ~peace~
Thank you!
Awesome job Michael. I’m really liking how it’s coming together. Full disclosure: I’ve seen the finished product on another YT channel BUT I always look forward to the latest video on the build journey. Oh, and that motorcycle lift, VERY cool! Until next time 👍
Thanks! short previews have appeared on a few channels, more in depth finished product stuff is coming!
Keep up the good work and keep inspiring us, love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Thank you so much!
Nice work man
Appreciate it. Thank you.
You should make stickers of your new truck
They are coming real soon.
I love this build! Where you worried about the weight? 5000kg payload sounds like a lot but is also a lot of stuff on the final build
No, the truck is rugged and is not having any issue at all. Thank you for following along.
@@drivetheglobe Thank you for sharing!
It would be cool if you share the weight at some point to have a better idea! In Costa Rica they will let you drive with 12T.
@@noregomez the weight is 31,000lbs or about 15 tons. According to my research maximum axle weight in Costa Rica is 16,600k. I’ve had numerous friends with trucks much larger than mine transit through so I don’t know.

Is that a commercial rating?
This's a RecreateVehicle, non-commercial.
Wont all that alloy create thermal bridging?
In theory there certainly could be some. However, after traveling in a similar set up full time now for almost 4 years I think it is a topic that is highly discussed but in practice is an insignificant issue. Admittedly I tend to travel in scenarios that this is less prevalent IE; I hate the cold. In reality, with great insulation and a cracked window for ventilation hasn't been a problem down to say low 20s F.
@Ear,
2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, we insulated with:
* adhesive-back acoustic against the inside of the wall and ceiling, a gap, then
* one-inch pink-board, another air-gap, then
* two-inch foil-side poly.
.
Our heater is a Wave 3 catalytic heater.
With our obsessively excessive insulation, we rarely use it above 40°f/5°c... and always on 'LOW'.
.
Our windows are 3010 (three feet wide by a foot tall) dual-pane sliders designed for a stand-still house.
We mounted these at our eye-level standing inside, about eight feet above pavement.
Small targets for branches and jealous by-standers.
.
Over two decades full-time live-aboard.
Twenty-four months twenty-four thousand miles around South America.
Alaska, Panama, all over North and Central America.
Summers up rough logger tracks to remote mountain lakes.
Winters on isolated Baja beaches.
And none of our caravan chums have factory RecreateVehicles.
Hey Michael, as someone that's newer to your channel and to the concept of building a tiny home on a rig like this, are you able to point me to any resources that are good for researching what it costs and what it takes to do something like this? I am genuinely interested in this type of thing. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for the support, very much appreciated. Honestly there are a lot of sources, including a number of youtube channels, facebook groups and discussions like on Expedition Portal or Overland Bound. Attending Overland Expos is also a great resource. I have been working with a number of folks on my Patreon Account as well.
@@drivetheglobe thanks, Michael!
If the windows new they are awfully scratch hm🤔
One side effect of these windows is they can and do scratch- especially if you really use the truck like I do.
