It's refreshing!!! To hear about a bolt action design from the actual engineer who designed it instead of the sales person who has no idea how to explain nor how it actually works and why it's better. Keep it up ARC!
American Rifle Company thank you for your time and effort. Far more interested in content than in aesthetically pleasing footage. Rather see that money more spent towards R&D on your products than a Hollywood movie video. Yup, just one old man's opinion...Crawford out. P.s. tongue in cheek response to those oh so bothered by "Uhh" ; Uhh is the Jake Brake for the mind...slowing it down long enough for the tongue to catch up. At least they I've seen your not plagued by speaking in contracted sentences as I so often am. Sure get a lot of strange looks from folks when ya leave out half the words in a sentence. Very much respect for your abilities applied and that you would take your time to video any of your own stuff makes it clear your a real stand up man amongst guys. Thank you sirSir
Firstly.........Thank you very much for this wonderfully informative vid. Just to clarify a couple points to you, the only people who are going to genuinely appreciate a vid like this are gun nuts who are looking for their perfect action & are more than willing to pay for it. In other words, you've done nothing but a justice to yourself & your product by presenting like this, it's perfect for real potential customers. Fully informative, plenty of detail, plenty of explanation....excellent. Just as a side issue, I feel reasonably confident that this vid & that ingenius action, have just earned another customer.
Well thank you for the reply. I know you're very busy but, I'll explain a little of my situation & why I replied like I did. I'm presently in the early stages of planning a walking/hunting rifle which will be my "go to" rifle for many years. I'm in Australia &, we have shit gun laws to deal with so, I've decided on a switch Bbl settup of some description because, we don't have to register each barrel, just the action. It makes a lot of sense to have one rifle & 3 or 4 barrels as a set in a case. I'm a tremendous fan of the Mausingfield action & thought I had decided on that but, a 60 or, in your case, 70 deg bolt lift was is, high on my list. I have & have had several two lug rifles that are a pain because of the scope but, I much prefer my mauser claw for hunting rifles. So, on that basis, you can see where your Nucleus action fits in. In finishing, when you have some time, pretend you're a gun nut who wants to find out everything about custom actions, go on line & look at how depressingly simple it is for good companies to completely drop the ball in the marketing department with, time wasting, uninformative vids which show half the action & leave the most important details out. P.S, will be looking closely at your Barlock gear but, would rather not have to use a headspace gauge. I like the idea of the switch lug set up but, that requires uniquely machined barrels &, a shoulder but, I don't know all the details & differences, That's why another vid, just like your Nucleus vid, explaining all the details of why your Barlock system would/could/should be a better choice overall. All the very best to you in the future with your great products.
I'm seriously impressed by how well thought out every aspect of this design is, especially that extractor and bolt head system. I intend to get one of these together as reasonably soon as possible.
No one else EXPLAINS their engineering decisions based on performance and durability rather than COST CUTTING decisions. I realy appreciate your comparisons to the greatest battle rifles in history (Mauser + Springfield).
Nice work on the Barloc Integration that I see on the website. One question on the recoil lug key... why go with a single tab on the lug and a slot into the rail instead of two tabs that capture an extended rail base? Aesthetic or manufacturing? Or was the strength gain just that marginal?
I appreciate that you have included extra design measures for enhanced safety. With many production guns I often wonder if they are as safe as they should/could be.
This is the reason why the engineer should explain the product itself than a sales person. Nothing about sales but the engineers knows the very detail of the product.
The mausingfield checked off most of my boxes except the 3 lugs, but I was still going to order one. But now I don't have to worry about that. This looks great!
What enabled you to use salt-bath nitriding on this action but not the Mausingfield? I don't have a preference either way, but I was just curious if technology has advanced or if a different steel was used, etc. I could be mistaken about the finish altogether.
I can’t believe i watched that whole video I can’t wait to get my action your a genius man I’m excited I can finally afford one of these with it being half the price of a mousingfield
Thanks for the video, Ted, love the info; and don't worry about the length. More is better. What is the practical difference between this action and the Mausingfield? In other words, who is the target consumer for the Nucleus, vs. the target consumer for the Mausingfield?
Awesome product! I'm looking at my first truly custom action and this is very attractive at the price point. Semi-related question: does the barloc system work on other rifle actions besides your actions? Also, do you find that a savage type pre-fit is just as accurate as a gunsmith installed/ chambered barrel in these actions? I have rebarreled my own savage several times and already have the tools, but this would obviously be a big step up in quality, but at a very good price point.
A friend got his in yesterday. It's a push feed. The rims don't snap under the extractor and ejection is extremely weak. I still would love a Mausingfield.
I assumed by the extractor not getting sufficient grip on a case. I'm not an engineer. I'm a guy disappointed by every custom action I handle. I've got a GAP Tempest that would make a decent fireplace poker.
If you're not getting CRF, your magazine probably isn't releasing the round at the right spot. You may have to shorten the feed lips. As for ejection, it's a mechanical ejector so it will only eject as strong as you cycle the bolt. I can launch a case 30' if I want to but I try to keep it under 5' so I can find my brass.
Any chance we could see a video of the nucleus feeding from a magazine and popping up into the bolt head under the extractor like the lapua mausingfield video? I have one on order in 223 bolt face
I guess if you want anything but that "rail" for mounting a scope you're pretty much screwed. And despite all Tactitool opinions and beliefs to the contrary, putting a "rail" on top of a bolt-action rifle receiver is not the "optimum" method for mounting a scope. It just adds additional complexity, hardware, imprecision and failure points. Standard "bases and rings" made for the receiver and with "dovetails" for optimum strength, alignment adjustability and overall quality were/are how those of us who aren't wannabe "snipers" and aren't "tactical" have been doing it for decades every since quality and "proprietary" bases/rings replaced generic "one size fits all" so-called "rails" and rifle manufacturers started designing, drilling and tapping receivers FOR "bases" at the factory.
Think about how many people have rifles with messed up scopes because their scope bases aren't aligned front to back... You are pretty much guaranteed alignment with a one piece rail if the manufacturer isn't making curved rails. If you have quality rings that are machined in pairs or otherwise highly concentric, you should create a near ideal stress free scope mounting when you clamp them to a one piece rail. Theoretically you could do the same thing with precisely machined bases but in practice you don't know what you've got unless you measure it or ream the rings. Thinking about it, the original tacticool bolt actions were open top with stripper clip guides and scope mounting an afterthought. Designing an action for a good scope mounting is not what I would call tacticool, it is very practical.
It's refreshing!!! To hear about a bolt action design from the actual engineer who designed it instead of the sales person who has no idea how to explain nor how it actually works and why it's better. Keep it up ARC!
Thanks and sorry about the poor video quality. We'll make better videos after shot show.
Ted

Yeah please do. Super frustrating not being able to see the object I want to buy. Im Not depositing $250 for a blurry picture.
Yeah, you're depositing $250 for an excellent bolt action.
You're getting the video for free.

This action screams ...

Was looking for a video showing the improvements, changes to the Nuclues gen 2 receiver. Didn’t see one on your channel.
I'm seriously impressed by how well thought out every aspect of this design is, especially that extractor and bolt head system.

I know if I ever go with a custom action it will be from this guy. Well done sir. The Savage threading is a huge selling point to me.
I always learn something; information quality trumps video quality in my opinion. Signed, proud Mausingfield owner and Nucleus pre-owner.
Pre-order mine, it’s going to be my first Long range build. Can’t wait!

I'm so looking forward to it!
Thanks again for helping me over the phone, Ted!

I was going to order another Bighorn but I'm going to have to try the Gen2 of this in Lefty for my 6 Creed. Incredibly well thought out design.
The mausingfield checked off most of my boxes except the 3 lugs, but I was still going to order one. But now I don't have to worry about that. This looks great!
Don't know what I'm looking at but can't stop looking

Ah bummer lost me at no aw mags. Super kool design ted. Thanks for the video
Hands down best announcement for 2018!!! Can't wait to get one!!!
Would love to see an extended video like this describing the Mausingfield.in detail.
I can’t believe i watched that whole video I can’t wait to get my action your a genius man I’m excited I can finally afford one of these with it being half the price of a mousingfield
"Good extractor. I think we've made that point."
+1
Brilliant, thanks you for the in depth explanation! I better start saving lol

Doinkus? Ha! Look forward to receiving mine in the spring.

Awesome. Love your innovation.
Do one of these for the 2.0 Nucleus please sir.
A friend got his in yesterday. It's a push feed. The rims don't snap under the extractor and ejection is extremely weak.
I still would love a Mausingfield.
@Theodore Karagias Oops, correction, I meant to say ejection is extremely weak, not extraction. I'll edit the comment.

Have you ever measured the lock time?Just wondering how it compares to my Pierce engineering action at 2.3 milliseconds for comparison.thanks
Doesn't look like there's much there for barrel threads length-wise. Is there even 3/4" of thread?
Any chance we could see a video of the nucleus feeding from a magazine and popping up into the bolt head under the extractor like the lapua mausingfield video? I have one on order in 223 bolt face
I NEED one of these!!!
What is the max magazine length? Or can the bolt push feed (single feed)? I'd like a 3.050 COAL.
Awesome, thanks for trying really hard not to blow up face TED.
I will buy one if I can feed my 3.6 inch 7mm wild cat.... Very impressed with the action...

So could I just order a savage pre fit and install myself?
Knobs are personal... everyone likes their own...
Can you do a full nucleus assembly with the barloc video?
Just ordered one, btw. Looking forward to getting it!
Ted. Two words: MAN BUN.
So i take it you cant single feed it if the extractor doesnt have a spring
The extractor is a spring so you can single feed it.
Ted
Prefit barrels just order savage ?
Jay Cupples From my understanding that is true. I believe that was the point in doing the threads in the same pattern.
