Chief Deputy is lying, The real reason is MONEY, if it was safety they would have people on site to slow traffic and write tickets. It is a great idea, wish I'd have thought of it, but I would have been truthful. This will be a great money maker for both the camera company and the county, but safety is not the real reason it's money.
I find that it is mostly parents breaking the speed limit.

Unless there are actually children pedestrians those school zones should be outlawed. How many school zones must we crawl through where there’s no children outside?

If he was being honest he would have said, we looked at these school zones and saw a chance to extort a lot of money from the citizenry at no cost to us. Camera company will install and maintain for a cut of the cash that will be rolling in.
Use these cameras to monitor these little animals instead.....

I think they should start by placing those "Your Speed" Radar signs up, see if people are accidently speeding by 1-5 mph or are they just ignoring the area all together. If those don't alert people then, yes, get those speed cameras out there.

Bob was driving my car that day, wasn’t me can’t give me a ticket for something I didn’t do. Unless they photographed the driver. But Florida does not have front license plates so why take a picture from the front?
Are they putting flashing lights to alert during the hours of the school zones if not it's about making money
