Good to see you back! You’ve provided a lot of really good information for me and my friends as I learn how to navigate being an ambulatory user. @@davidbrouwers7309 : The same way I had to walk when my neurolgist at clinic wanted to find out how paralysed my left foot really is: only a bit, a bit more, if I can feel something (cold ground etc) or not. He took a video and some fotos within. These helped us - me, too, cause I wanted to be involved the whole time - to see the problems immediately the moment they were born. Now I know where I need to concedtrate when trying to get up three steps (with help, without I can't and time after time I must train or it WAS a ressource I had had once before.Balleridas and dancers in whole train in front of a mirror to notice by time they do the wrong movement that it's wrong and to stop it or to work hard to change it into right direction.
If you're in a Reha you'll have seen the mirrors at all room walls to help both, pupils and teachers, to do right, helping hand or the one who trains. It's so important. Be blessed and I hope you're well.

Additionally the techniques you use to move are also some techniques used in strength training i.e. popping the toes or swinging from the hip.

    THAT WAS BRILLIANT ! ! ! !
I'm guessing it took a lot of confidence and humility on your part to do this video, but I'm personally very grateful that you did. It not only helped me in understanding how you compensate, but I can see how I could REALLY benefit myself if I filmed ME and could have the prospective from outside my body so-to-speak of how I "attempt" to walk when I'm not using my chair. Mirrors can only help so much. But I'm afraid I won't be putting that on RUclips - I'm a coward with zero self-confidence.....
I wish I could see this in slow motion.

Kids with disabilities like Cerebral Palsy and Spina Bifida have their gait analyzed annually (have CP) but adults who have a SCI and relearned how to walk are generally not analyzed but really should as it shows where problem areas are and where they could potentially develop (knee, hip, lower back etc).
I don't have the videos from my analysis in childhood to mid teens to compare but always wanted a new analysis after my SCI (yeah, am a rare one with having both CP and incomplete SCIs at all 3 levels).

From the first few videos you made that moved me to comment on RUclips for the first time, you have consistently rolled out these incredibly valuable videos with unprecedented topics and types of content that has never been public access before. Nearly every major thing you've done on RUclips has been an incredibly creative and pioneering endeavor that has brought education and resources previously unheard of outside the medical field and hardly taught adequately within healthcare and sociology. Many others have taught us great things by sharing their lives before you started, but you have reached unimaginable milestones for everyone in disability community, culture, awareness and understanding of each other. Richard I could not possibly be more serious and genuine in saying your work will be legend in more ways than one.

Glad to see you back but can you at least post the podcast here after awhile? Or even just the update video? $5 may not seem like a lot but it add’s up. I understand why your trying the Patreon route, but it’s going to leave a lot of people behind. Including myself.
Glad you still around Richard. I randomly checked for a new video thru the year, and today, it was here. This will be educational for many. 😊✌️

Stoked to be back! The podcast and the update video are the same thing and it’s available for free on patreon. Just like the promo says! Click the link and scroll down. As a matter of fact everything on patreon is available for free - I’m curious if you even looked 🤔

    • @erinaustin2157
      @erinaustin2157 2 года назад

@@Wheels2Walking of course I looked, but Patreon is never promoted as free, so why would anyone think or see that differently 💁‍♀️
Also when you click the link in the description, the first thing you see are paid tier levels. You have to scroll way down to see something about free. I did not hear free mentioned in the video but I could have missed it 🤷‍♀️.
But it’s also not clear if you need to make a Patreon account in order to hear it, or is it also like the original podcasts that were on YT, Apple podcasts, etc.
If I missed it, others will too ✌️

I just wanted to say I recently discoverred your channel following doing some online research about wheelchairs, I have recently qualified for a wheelchair following suffering 6 full thickness burns on toes (3 per foot) just before Covid hit, I have difficulty walking any decent distance without suffering hip / back pain.
I am currently awaiting my first powered wheelchair to get back some more freedom of movement and can still get about on crutches, so finding your channel was a insperiation.
Keep being awesome my man !

The shift in your pelvis while walking is called a Trendelenburg-Sign and means your small glutes are paralysed (N. gluteus superior L4-S1). But it appears your M. gluteus maximus kind of compensates it on your right side - > very interesting that this is possible. Thank you for this insight

I am about half way through listening to your podcast, then my phone battery was empty. Ah, I missed you brabbling! So sorry for all the stuff you had to go through, but you are stronger for it now! I will resume Patreon, I will hopefully be earning again, feel ready now, after just over a year. I did some recordings, too, so basically telling my life story, I am too lazy to write it, so recorded it, and listening back was quite interesting, and it helped me sort my head. Look forward to seeing more content, good luck with the filming, editing etc, your project sounds awesome! Do not worry about schedules for uploading, you can see from the comments here, you are a valued person with valued content, and will always have a true following. Lots of love.

@@Wheels2Walking Funnily enough I have written nearly 400k words for a story, when I started it I was typing for hours! It has been years in the making, but it is taking so long as the muse now left me. When it hits I am fine sitting for hours typing. Just writing about my own feelings etc, not good at that.

It feels so good to be back and even better knowing that I’ve made your family feel less alone - thank you for the beautiful comment :)
I don’t really ever walk this much and I really had to push myself for the video but all I had to do was get one good take from each angle so all in all I probably walked 50-100 yards with all the re-takes I had to do - shooting solo has it’s own challenges 😅 I still use my wheels 90%+ of the time :)
